Afternoon all
Mhags - carrot cookie recipe - courtesy of Fuddle on the OS doorstep thread (I think from a Marguerite Pattern wartime cookbook)
carrotcookies
1 Tbsp marg
2 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp grated carrot (I used more than this)
6 tbsp sr flour
Few drops vanilla flavour
Cream fat and sugar
Beat in flavour and carrot
Fold in flour
Put in greased tins - I kind of used my hands to flatten small balls of them
Brisk oven for 20 mins
To be honest, they are OK, a bit tasteless to my mind. After 2 days they have gone soft.
Ampersand - wondered where the photo 9 was! Thanks for Clarifying. Loved that Holidays list. On the "to do" list. Interesting about Belgium being a must visit place due to the 100th anniversary. We went to Poperinghe a few years ago to visit mum's uncle's grave there. So sad that I didn't know how close it was and could have taken her. By the time I found out, she had passed
BoP - in line with the above, there is to be an exhibition on the war at the army museum, mentioned in Ampersand's list. Might be of interest? It is to me, I will never forget my kids running round the real trenches at Hill 62. Was it appropriate? I felt that those men died just so that my kids could play.
Bagpuss - welcome back
Frith - you always sniff out the White Stuff bargains. Jealous
Chicken - Oh yes, I am a dedicated follower of fashion :rotfl:
PK - how was your caravan Christmas experience
DD -
Hello - lav1979
CnOM - Jamaican curry for SC - recipe? Pretty please?
CCP - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT1HCQcSHW0 :rotfl: (sorry)
Broomstick - Three bags of shoes????
Teacher2b - well dodged on the goodies front. Hard though innit
Tealady - Someone else decluttering! Have you got three bags of shoes though?
Kittikins - Enjoy Sussex
VickyA - I still have daffs to plant
Caterina - Must restart yoga - next week hopefully
Skint - I think its the weather, lots of solar activity affecting the atmosphere too
Sparrer - Strange, we are talking about Croatia next year too. Have knocked S Africa on head for this year.
McCulloch - I think my Christmas pud is already a year out of date, and it's still in the cupboard
Pleasures for yesterday
1. putting a new battery in my v. old watch and it worked! My old watch died last week.
2. COffee with friend and a catch up
3. really fun teaching session with new students. Only 5 in the class, one didn't speak and the other four managed to divert me onto all sorts of other topics. :pGreat fun.
4. Kept within my calorie count for the day - despite taking lemon cake in to work. Got nice comments about cake too
5. put the decs in the loft. The earliest they have ever been put away
And today
1. Nice walk to and from train (or rather from and to)
2. Lecture this PM was cancelled as only 3 students turned up
3. Speechless and overwhelmed when I was presented with a voucher for £50 for one of my favourite shops, Joe Browns. Colleagues had had a whip round for my birthday.I don't know what I've done to deserve it - have never known them do it before for a special birthday for anyone. Looks llike I'd better bake more cake
4. The cleaner's been :T
5. Sausages for tea - trying to empty the freezer a bit, so I can see what's in the freezer.
Have a nice evening all

Good evening all !
CCP - nothing ventured etc .. glad you got back in one piece.Fingers crossed for your DS .
VJsmum- I couldn't agree more .I had conversation with 3 lovely older gentleman in a nursing home who were having a chat about WW2 and their role in it. I said "if it wasn't for you guys I might not be here today " and they were so grateful for being thanked ! Err no thank YOU ..Heroes ..
5 for today
1. Site visit for work- all went well and the day went quickly. Lunch at 3pm type day .
2. OH cooked off some ham last night so I made daupinois (sp) spuds, peas and a cheese sauce . He loved it.
3. The terrier is fox! obsessed so much so that she ran into the garden and over the missing fence panel and straight into next doors kitchen and through her house.... covered in mud :oMuch apologies and terrier deposited in the bath :rotfl: . My DM came out to see what the racket was and I couldn't speak for laughing so much. Poor neighbours . I have written her a note of apology and given her some eggs ..
4.Booked a day off on Thursday so 4 days off for me until Monday . Might not tell OH as he might want to nab my car to take to work;).
5.A course I want to take has been agreed in principle to take in works time . Thanks again Mcculloch for signposting me last year
eta LFS well done to your DD
Have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening everyone :hello:
Took me an age to mark the Numeracy books as I was too busy procrastinating. All done now, so I can get on with coming on here.
Managed to tick off a couple of things actually.
So, I do have some pleasures today.
1) I've been on a course this afternoon about teaching tennis in primary schools. What a wonderful resource! Seriously, there's an amazing programme set up by the LTA for young children and I heartily recommend that if you have children you take them to a tennis club, if you're able. If only it had been around when I was younger, I'd be a better player now.
2) Pasta with a tomatoey tuna sauce this evening. Using up mushrooms which otherwise would have started their own protest. The rest of the mushrooms will be used tomorrow.
3) Contemplating booking a Groupon deal for the Dave Leicester Comedy Festival. Not OS, but better than paying full price! Hmmm *counts pennies*
4) Looking for a recipe for my next cake club meeting. Healthy/low calorie/low fat is the theme. Any ideas? I've found a mango cake, but the calorie count is definitely NOT healthy!
5) I'm going to make time to read my book. Amazing!

Evening
CCP - Fingers crossed for DS
Pleasures for today,
1. Packed lunches all round again today. I had roast veg, pasta and tomato pesto, was very nice.
2. NSD
3. Another small bag to the charity shop, VJsmum I wont have 3 bags of shoes to go as I don't like parting with my shoes.
4. Popped some beef in the slow cooker this morning and turned it into beef and pepper sauce tonight with rice for OH and me and DD had a portion of mash that was in the freezer.
5. Friend at work who finishes her contract tomorrow got a job offer today. So pleased for her.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening all.
Kk, I was wearing the pedometer on Sunday and I did over 5500 steps that day :T (unlike today where I haven't even reached my target and will not stand a chance of doing so before bed - the least said about today the better).
CCP, I hope the camera does the trick for your sister's diagnosis.
Five pleasures for Tuesday:
1. Felt cold and grotty this morning and the weather was making me very miserable so went back to bed with a hottie and my book and snoozed again. Woke up feeling much better.
2. The estate at the back of our house is very flooded again but we are still just holding off - fence has come down again though. Went and got some more sandbags today to improve on blocking airbricks.
3. Book that had been ordered as a late Christmas present arrived. It's about making clothes using your existing ones as patterns. I wouldn't be seen dead in quite a lot of the clothes in the book (don't wear skirts), but it explains how to do trousers and simple jackets so I think I'll get good use from it. Paper patterns cost too much. Am relatively confident at sewing clothes and have material to use up.
4. Just realised we had a load of cherry corner Greek yoghurts in the fridge and that was exactly what I fancied for pudding.
5. DS2 and I fixed our broken coat stand with duck tape and strips of scrap metal - strong and tidy mend that seems as if it will hold. Satisfying money-save. Oooh and today was another NSD.
Stay dry, keep warm, sweet dreams.

vjsmum have i left you speechless?!
Quick 5 before i walk the dogs
1) freeeeeee lunch was very nice and seminar was interesting and i've asked if i could present some of the slides in sri lanka and she say yes. Win win win win
2) also asked another bod there if she could present a case study for me on the 31st and she say yes. Then emailed another bod if she could present a case study same day and she say yes :-) only 5 hours left for me to do rofl
3) had loverly walk home. Dont like walking behind the hospital in the dark so went through the centre. Ninewells is on a gazillion levels and a hill so levels peter out and start at strange numbers. I entered on floor 3 and counted the 96 steps to level 7 (which is ground floor at the main entrance). Halo time
4) visited my credit card online (weaned off it last summer) as thought hmmm best have backup access to spondulits when abroad and seem to have left it in credit rather than zero so that was a nice surprise!
5) gbf came round tonight to see his dawgs (he's their dogfather) he's on a fast day so brought his own which i duly heated in the microwave. I had a very large glass of wine and lish chicken stew.
And no i dont think the dastardly rob has told jess at all!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

rtc 10p!!! Took all 6 to 4 new homes en route back. So lovely to share.
3. 2 days' dense casework all done and other stuff sorted. It's been coming from all directions of late - sign of nasty times.
4. vicky - may I introduce you to Pioneer Woman?
http://thepioneerwoman.com/
More recipes than you can shake a stick at, and galaxies more. One of my faves is her Great-Grandmama Iny's Prune Cake:
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/12/make-this-cake-today-trust-me/
Like the sound of Mango one - recipe?
5. About to have w8rs 29p smoked salmon roulade, grilled tomato, h/m seedy toast - and maybe JUST a little something to sweeten close of day...for me? Oh, how kind, well...just one. And some Spookymen's Chorale to bliss with.
Gentle sleeps, quieter dreams than weather. Bonne nuit.
lfs, as vjm says, no pie is impossible with added YUM.
