Pk, get well soon and hope the tablets do the trick. My mum who has been ill with flu/chest infection since Xmas day has at last got antibiotics today as well.

CCP, glad that your colander has been witnessed and declared as such. Maybe your LL will believe you if you ever (heaven forbid) have to report repairs again. Sounds like the contractor is a sweetie. :T

    My five pleasures for Wednesday:

    1. Our river's reached its highest level so far today, the garden is sodden and the bottom of the garden has just started to flood but we are still ok inside. The freebie http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ map which gives you about 90 mins worth of real-time rain dynamics is really coming into it's own at the moment. It's always useful to me with getting vast quantities of washing dried outdoors but right now it's a means of watching the bigger picture re flooding. I'm still arguing with myself about whether it's worth subscribing to get the premium version. Has anyone tried it? Those pictures of what is happening in the US are scary. Feel pretty grateful for our swamp with its intermittent spells of sunshine.

    2. Did yet another trip to the dump with a load of stuff that we'd sorted out in clearing out a friend's belongings. The pleasure was that a job that's been hanging around has now been ticked off the list.

    3. Dropped another small carrier of stuff off at the CS and walked through W8rz to collect my cappuccino (again) but kept today as a NSD. :D

    4. The hyacinths are starting to grow well on the kitchen windowsill. Very cheering. :T

    5. Enjoying the Dorothy Sayers on R4extra iplayer. It isn't one I'd read or heard before.

Keep warm and dry. Sweet dreams.

Chicken - if one receives unpleasant/menacing pms or becomes a target of abusive post, the perpetrator can be put on the Ignore list, meaning nothing further is seen - blocked at source. It's the last option in a little blue drop-down list if the oick's name is selected.
Never on this Thread, bop - I'm still seeing yours:-)

In no particular order, it's been quite big blokey again today, starting with-

    1. & wearingTed Lapidus[France v-g, €2], full-length on wet path in rain with Edina Ronay cashmere[10p CS,needed a single-stitch mend]right arm rolled high, bare arm down blocked drain. If you've ever had to do it, major sludge extraction, you know what I'm on about. Had to dismantle a cover, do murk spanner wrench Spookymens Chorale 'Tool' stuff. Thick dark grey slimy stench hauled out, more to do demain, then down goes The Big Stuff, sulphuric, [v.v.v. carefully with instructions already lectured]....
2......from B&Q with Ancience Wednesday 10% discount, which helped. Crept in, just, under £10, but an annoying spend.
    3. Then 'to-the-dump-to-the-dump-to-the-dump-dump-dump', neighbour's and &'s garbage, in filthy lashing rain. Struggling with last of huge soggy cardboard boxes, I paused to get a grip[never do in real life]and saw a gorgeous old Batgers lolly[mhags?] jar+ bakeilte screw top in the rubble skip, perfect condition. This one:

    I love it.
    4. Bus Pass Park&Ride>Library. Made M's day, &setting problem of derailing particular book from Mobile stock. He's a huffer'n'puffer, but purrs when Penelope Keithed to. & obliged.
    5. I've heard a phrase broadcast today: 'The times are awry' and this is so much what I feel re: schooling, low pay, prisons, NHS, budget cut targets, Bankers, bonuses, corporate greed, climate change, denial, virtual world/social networking distancing from The True Real, everything for profit. Evening

CCP - Hope your landlord now takes notice
PK - Get well NOW and make sure you takes things easy whilst on the mend.
Broomstick - Keeping everything crossed that you stay dry indoors.
    Ampersand - Great find

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Made a pasta dish for OH lunch today and used some of the leftover stilton, he thought it was yummy.
    2. Excellent customer service from a company I had ordered something for OH birthday from. Parcel arrived yesterday with a very slight leak, phoned yesterday afternoon and a replacement arrived this morning and I get to keep the other one for free. Will definitely be using again as had some interesting whisky gifts that OH will love.
    3. Not a NSD day today as went out for lunch for friends last day in the office. Nice lunch and even better company with lots of laughs between the 8 of us and we had a voucher.
    4. Walked home with DD as she is trying to get fit and had jogged to the office. We didn't get wet on the way home either
    5. Book arrived that had ordered for friends DD 1st birthday present. It is one that was DD's favourite when little so we had fun reading it together again and doing all the voices and actions we used to do. Hope friend gets as many happy memories from reading it to her little one as we have.

Hugs to all who need them

CCP - I'm glad your landlord is getting his finger out. No good having leaks in this weather!

Ampersand - I thought Tony Newvoice did very well in copying the mannerisms of Tony Oldvoice.

Here are my pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Got up in good time to have croissants for breakfast (a rare treat).

Very strange day as I spent all of it in town waiting for my car to be repaired. So more pleasures now town-based:

    3) Car was repaired (new driveshaft) and the nice mechanic obviously got so sick of struggling to get out of the car (door handle broke ages ago) that he fixed that for me as well!

    4) Thought I'd "pop" into the town centre from the garage but turned out this was 50 minutes walk each way. So that was my exercise for today. Enjoyed walking in along the canal tow path.

    5) Lunch at Sainsburys.

    6) Old colleague saw me in the caf! and came over to say hello. Had not seen her to speak to for 7 years!

    7) Walking back to the car, saw the ringing master of where I was a bellringer. Hadn't spoken to him for 16 years! So we had a long chat. Not only did we all ring together twice a week but we used to all go out for dinner together and plan little trips out to ring at different places. We'd usually choose somewhere scenic with a pub. Oh, and we'd ring on Christmas morning and New Years Eve so we were all pretty close.

    8) Chicken casserole for tea. Was very nice and some left for tomorrow.

    Good evening everyone :hello:

Before I go to bed, I thought I'd better check in! These are my 5 pleasures for today.

    1) NSD :j :j

    2) Stir fry for supper - using up more veggies from the fridge. I think a soup will be made tomorrow for the rest!

    3) Survey done today. More points towards my next JL voucher! :j

    4) Slept really well last night. This was a pleasure until I needed to nip to the loo in the middle of the night!

    5) Just discovered that Alton Towers do reduced tickets for primary school groups. I'm wondering how I can shoe-horn a trip into the summer term. :rotfl: Being serious, it looks as though they offer an educational programme and as a teacher I'd be constantly looking after bags/counting children on and off the rides. :)

ampersand we came through customs and passport control on Sunday and I had declared we were bringing in food products on customs form.....
"What kind of food are you bringing in to the country" I was asked.
" confectionary" , I replied , " Scottish lollies!" I couldn't quite believe those 2 words came out of my mouth in the same sentence!

Good evening from Hotsville.it was 33o today and has managed to cool down to 29o at almost 9pm....sobs in a sweaty corner!

Jetlag update....I was awake all night, watched Holby, casualty and listened to radio on I player.....dozed from about 7am until 9.30am when OH had phoned me. Anyway got up , hung out washing and tried to get DD1 to shake a leg and get ready to go out. She's shockingly bad at getting ready...obviously my punctuality genes passed her by.

We walked over to the Salvos ( Salvation Army charity shop). I had seen a beautiful chair in the window whilst on way to library last night. It is an easy chair that reclines and swivels and is the prettiest baby blue and cream gingham check. It needs a wee stitch on the piping at the arm but I love it already! It's now pride of place in my front room at the window overlooking the garden. I gave it a wash down and have been sitting reading all evening .
We walked like the Chuckle brothers again......to you , to me. It's not far when just walking but far enough with a heavyish chair in the heat!
I donated 4 books that I have not read, probably never would read or had started and thought nah! Life's to short for rubbish books! ( I made that decision as I approached my 40th...before that it used to persevere.)

DD2 and I have been like mad dogs and Scottish women by gardening in the afternoon heat. Garden bin day tomorrow and so much needing done as we've been away. Borrowed business across the roads bin again and we were busy tidy uppers, stopping frequently for refreshment! Front garden looks a bit tidier but still so much to do.

Tomato number 3 from veg patch today....I'm not sure if they will just ripen one at a time. There are lots of tomatoes but all are still green.

We had egg mayo wraps for lunch with tomato number 2 and then stir fry veg and noodles for dinner.

Started a library book at silly o'clock this morning and have just finished it. It was very readable.

From my new chair I watched the sunset reflect on the eucalyptus tree out the front. It's bark peels off by itself and regenerates new bark. So I swept it up and used it for mulch in the front garden. It really seems to absorb light at different times of the day. When we arrived back on Sunday it felt right to be back with eucalyptus trees. It has felt ( for me) very 'right' to be back here.

Wore my new sun hat ( Christmas gift from DD1) whilst gardening.....was still like a sweaty Betty! But quite a glamorous one.( I wish!)

Little snoozette on sofa this afternoon but I truly hope I can sleep like a normal person tonight.

Think that's plenty of pleasures for a hot and sticky day....have a lovely day :)
  • sparrer (((hugs))) I still miss my little blue eyed Turnip who passed last xmas. I know how you feel x
ampersand - loving the pioneer woman, link appreciated!
Frith - pilates..will my knees be able to cope do you think? I want something for flexibility when I'm up to it!
DVF - Mmm clear soup...take a cup a soup and a tea strainer!!
    1. Doughnut holes:D Homemade!! Oh yum..and so deep fried and bad for me:D
    2. Scotch eggs too...I'm having deep fried incidents all over!
    3. No panties!! Thats what the lady said I had to do to 'get some air to my wound' :DHahaha!!
    4. Half the washing up done:D my five minutes were up!
    5. 3 NSD's in a row:D
    Big hugs xx
