    1. Finding out that DH has been offered a job! A really good one too, and he starts on Wednesday. So I can stop worrying about money, although it won't stop me being frugal and trying to save as much as I can.

    2. Getting my very own little car, filling it up with petrol and driving it home with a huge grin on my face. I searched for the particular car I wanted for ages and got a great price :D It's the first car that's ever been properly mine.

    3. Buying a lovely new cookbook in a charity shop, The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook which is gorgeous and I'm dying to make all the recipes.

    4. Finding out that the in laws are coming to visit on Friday week (I love my in laws!) and planning what I'm going to feed them.

    5. Finishing knitting a pair of socks and starting (yet) another pair. I really must knit something different...

What are the twinks hob nobs?! Is there a recipe anywhere for them?
They are a homemade version of hobnobs. Lots of people make little biscuits, I have always put the mixture into a tray and cut it up like flapjacks. They are totally delish and very addictive ;)Here is the thread. HTH

    Hello

Glad to hear that some people have had good news! I have had a very busy yet positive day! So my pleasures are:

    1. Enjoying the fruits of my labour for breakfast (muffins, yum)
    2. Having a rewarding and productive day at work
    3. Dinner with family
    4. Coming home to a large pile of freshly washed laundry, compliments of my OH
    5. Being given a sweetie bag to take home from grans
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

    Hiya all

Well, my day has been hectic. Dd off school with temp and cold and having to pick ds1 up from school as he got quite poorly during the day but here goes:

1 Finding a huge bag of proper thick warm straw for Little Rabbit Foo Foo (ds borrowed the book from school on the same day dh brought the rabbit home) for 50p rather than the horrible bitty thin stuff for £3.

2 Replacing the rain cover on Little Rabbit Foo Foo's cage all by myself, I forget that I can do diy stuff cos dh does it all but its nice to know I can cope on my own if need be.

3 Some nice texts wishing kids to get well soon from some of the mums who didnt see me at school home time

4 Everyone having a good go at eating tea even though they were all ill

5 Moving stuff around living room so me and dh can now sit together and have somewhere for our drinks rather than on the floor with Rex knocking them over!!

Thats all for today. I hope everyone is well and not got any of these bugs that are flying around at the moment.
  • Today's pleasures:-

    1. A trip into town

    2. Via the craft shop where I had a little splurge.

    3. Coffee and scone in M&$ - Best it town IMO.

    4. My hairdresser telling me I looked glamorous (must make more effort more often).

    5. The last day of 'freedom' before my disabled friend returns.

May be off the page now for some time. Hope you all stay positive and find something to smile about.

    Bella.

Thanks for the link to the hobnob recipe, Sunnygirl.

    5 for today:

    1) Having a sort out, downloading pics off my camera, making phone calls etc this morning while the boys were at school.

    2) Going to the physiotherapist and being almost signed off! (I had a sacro iliac joint that seized up and weirdly my sister now has exactly the same thing on the same side!)

    3) Going round Sainsburys by myself.

    4) Sitting in front of the stove.

    5) Looking on the internet for a new grate for the stove. I've lived here 10 years now and have always *meant* to get a new grate to stop the logs rolling out onto the rug.... Found one in Devon (I'm in Worcestershire) and mentioned this fact on my FB status then someone off the course I've just started doing said she'd ask her hubby if he'd pick it up for me next time he is down that way! The postage was going to cost more than the actual part and its so nice that she thought to ask him.

  • I think it was Bails who asked -

GRAN'S NATTER BARS or Orange, Chocolate and Ginger Flapjacks
    (Recipe probably from 1920's)

    2 oz butter
    2 oz brown sugar
    2 tablespoons orange marmalade
    1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    Pinch gound ginger to taste
    4 oz porridge oats

Melt the butter and stir everything else in. Press into a baking tin. Bake 20-25 mins at Gas 4.

Notes - I always use non-stick baking paper with flapjack
The more peely bits in the orange marmalade, the better
Green and Black's cocoa powder is best

I doubled the recipe as it seemed a more useable amount. Comes out very sticky and yummy.
  • congratulations to your OH Angeltreats
Glad you're feeling better Rummer. x

    1. Parking well away from school this morning and walking my boys along the river for the first time in ages. (One wasn't so keen but softened when he saw the swans taking off.) Note to self - take camera and bread next time.

    2. Sorting three important errands within 15 minutes of getting in from the school run. On a roll!

    3. Cleared the under-sink cupboard out and cleaned the shelves (I'm not overly hot on cleaning these days :o). Discovering enough lightbulbs to keep our village lit for years and enough cleaning materials to get our house spic and span. Using some 'Astonish' cleaner on the mixer tap and seeing it truly sparkle for the first time in years.

    4. Seeing my littler lad tucking into seconds of fish pie 'because I don't want to see it go to waste'.

    5. Sticking some almost-over cherry tomatoes in a pan this evening and improvising some chutney-type stuff. Better still, making a cheese and chutney toastie with it, just for me. YUM!

Angeltreats - if you DH has any spare job-hunting luck going now that he's sorted, please can he send it my way?;)

    I can't believe that I've just lost a long post :mad::mad::mad:!

Oh well - here goes folks:

    :j:j for all who've had good news/successes.

:A for all who've been busy helping everybody around them.

((((BIG HUGS)))) for anybody who's not well or feeling down in some way.

Welcome :hello: to any first time posters.

    Mine for today:

    1. Bin day - only half a bag of rubbish in my wheelie this morning PLUS two small bags of 'compostable food waste' (mostly egg shells, used teabags, oxtail bones, orange peel, banana skins, carrot stalk ends, potato peelings and brown onion skins) for the Food Recycling Scheme.

    2. Receiving confirmation of my place on a Community Crime Champions Training Course that I'd applied for, to be held next Tuesday in Liverpool - really looking forward to this.

    3. Being visited by DS1 and DS2 this morning - very rare occurrence to have them both in the same room at the same time ;).

    4. Getting some forms for the tenants to apply for 'Standby Savers' and 'Real Time Electricity Monitors' for free from BGas - joint venture between our local authority and BGas - don't even have to be a BGas customer either. Been busy delivering the forms through all 69 letterboxes!

    5. Bacon, Egg, Potato Waffles and Baked Beans for evening meal tonight - don't often have bacon but it was appreciated all the more .

    6. Managing to hang towels out today to dry in the sunshine. Well they didn't get dry but at least they didn't come back in any wetter than when they went out :rotfl:! Finished off on the radiator rails/airer.

    7. No Spend Day .

going to head off for bed in a couple of minutes :grin. Nitey nite all - love Ollie xxx
