Thanks all for the happy posts today - lots of positives.

    My five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Remembering meals for the post above.

    2. Getting a letter from Child Ben to say that they'd made a mistake and were reimbursing me over £100 for DS1's payments from September. They'd only been paying me for DS2 and after I'd queried it and they'd not got back to me I was thinking I'd have to chase them again next week, but now I don't have to. :D

    3. Walking into town in the sunshine this afternoon and spending quite a long time browsing in the wool shop but leaving without buying anything because I didn't need to at the moment... but it was sooooo lovely looking.

    4. Discovering a little toy museum that I didn't know existed, and one of the staff unexpectedly filled in a bit of info I needed for some research I'm doing.

    5. Baked spuds, cheese and veg for supper and a bought bread and butter pudding that had a use-by today date on it.

... and now it's going to be cocoa, warm jamas, big woolly cardie and my duvet to get on with some work peacefully tucked up in bed while the children watch trash on the telly downstairs. :D

Good morning everybody  - oh well, yesterday's nice weather lasted until lunchtime and then back to usual overcast November.

    billy858 - mmmmm freebie Bailey's smiley-eatdrink001.gif
bunny too - what a wonderful way of using some of those dish cloth patterns . Is it Church Parade today for Remembrance Sunday? - my kids used to love taking part in that .
nuttybabe - hope you've managed to get your electric problem sorted out. Any table/bedside lamps that you can use for the time being?
SunnyGirl - What a lovely sentiment at that nursing home . So many places act as though they're 'doing the residents a favour' and forget that the fees paid by residents/local authorities/benefits are actually 'paying their wages'!
alisong - another great use for an old toothbrush - well done you :j!
Rummer - good for you with the day of total R&R yesterday - does us all a world of good from time to time .
Broomstick - thanks for posting your recipe for the veggie stuffing. Sounds as though it would go with so many things. I try to alternate meat days with 'lighter meal days' so this is one that I'll definitely have a go at. Great news from Child Ben :j!
grandmasam - lol at your friday evening date - he must have been impressed to ask you out a second time ;). Shame the next table turned out to be more amusing company :rotfl:. I cringe, when I think of some of the disastrous evenings I've spent in my 'carefree days of youth'.........
Kitchenbunny - What an ego-booster, I'd love to be asked for ID:rotfl:! PLUS freebie chocolate bars - days like that just don't get any better ;).

    1. Did my shopping list on-line before going shopping, to get an idea of how much it would work out at - payday isn't till the end of the week so counting the pennies. Wouldn't have gone out only we had to have toilet rolls, milk and eggs.

    2. Eventually tore myself away from the comp yesterday and went to the local shopping centre. Decluttered a huge bag of books and another of clothes to the charity shop :j - but couldn't find anything I really wanted in there :( - besides that didn't really have the money for temptations.

    3. Stuck to my shopping list and managed a few whoopsies (hand-carved ham, pork pies, celery, Ginsters steak slices, deli-counter curries) as well - allowed for in the budget. Also used Roll-backs for good bargains on tea-bags and decaff coffee.

    4. Found outfits for dgd2 and dgs1 for Christmas, and a lovely black sequined bag for dgd1, in George and bought them - had to use the plastic BUT they were bargains and part of the Christmas spending list.

    For dgd2(2) - http://direct.asda.com/george/kid-s-clothing/younger-girls-6-months-5-years/dresses/dress-and-legging-set/GEM20565,default,pd.html

    For dgs1(8) - http://direct.asda.com/george/kid-s-clothing/older-boys-4-years-12-years/jeans/belted-jeans/GEM24412,default,pd.html with http://direct.asda.com/george/kid-s-clothing/older-boys-4-years-12-years/tops/checked-shirt/GEM25216,default,pd.html

For dgd1(11)- bought a couple of weeks ago http://direct.asda.com/george/kid-s-clothing/older-girls-4-years-12-years/dresses/jersey-bow-dress/GEM22649,default,pd.html and can't find the bag on the website :( - but it's lovely and matches exactly :).

Maybe I shouldn't have gone to the upstairs section after all !

    5. Freebie coffee (full loyalty card) and chocolate caramel shortcake after shopping while I was checking my shopping list/prices and reading the new Asda Magazine.

    6. Watched 'Sleepless in Seattle' on TV last night - great movie that 'gets me' every time .

    7. Lovely lie-in again this morning and then put my Oxtail Stew on for evening meal - will have with mashed pots and cabbage.

    8. Baking session this afternoon - seeing as I've finally bought some eggs ;).

Will look in again later and see how everybody is doing - bye for now - love Ollie xxx

2 Having my bacon butty this morning
3 Dh fixing the light problem
4 Finally getting round to sorting the boys room out. Cleared all old clothes ready to give away and tidied up all the toys so you can now see the floor although I give it till tomorrow for them to cover it in mess again!!!!

  • It's been lovely reading the weekend posts. Ours so far -

    1) DD's bf is home this week and we have missed him bouncing around the place. She, of course, is very happy.
    2) DD, bf, DS and his gf all went out to a church bonfire evening last night. We're so pleased that they all seem to get on. Of course, that left us to have a meal in together and then we settled down to watch a film (X-men origins - very good but has Patrick Stewart had plastic surgery? Why bother?) with our anniversary chocolates.
    3) Got to church this morning. Everyone was looking very sober, which seemed right.
    4) Cooked Sunday lunch for ourselves, bf, gf and bf's Mum, who feels a little upset that he is seeing so much of our daughter and not of her this weekend. Hope it smoothed a few ruffled feathers. Home grown veggies came in very handy again.
    5) Found an old recipe of Gran's - Natter Bars. It seems to be flapjack with orange, chocolate and ginger. Have made some for tea. Will report back soon
    6) Made Grandma's Christmas cake. I've always used this one and it's very reliable. Some of the spoons and forks and bowls I made it with have also come down through the generations.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone

This is cheating a little - will do 5 pleasures from today and yesterday - since I wasn't on the computer at all yesterday and there's still some way to go today but may want to have a computer-free evening (sometimes it's so easy to find I've spent ages stuck to the computer and it's way later than I'd wanted it to be! :o

    1. Going to London yesterday for a gathering of Wardens (like caretakers) of Quaker meeting houses - met new people, shared joys and problems of the job, heard some new ideas, all on work time and expense. Morning coffee and lunch were included which didn't hurt!

    2. Nipping in to the beginning of a friend's retirement party between the gathering and my train back home - seeing London friends and enjoying the lovely food as my dinner.

    3. Getting a nice email back from a new friend who isn't well, appreciating my offer of help.

    4. Making an odds-and-sods chili stew to warm me up on a chilly day - used up some veg before it goes off, and because DH isn't here, added as much cayenne pepper as I wanted :p (he's not as keen on chili as I am!)

    5. Starting to make some twinks hobnobs - until I realised I don't have enough butter or marg - but heading out now in case the corner shop is still open!

    Thanks all,

    saf
