Hi all, ACEY I'm the same, I just spent the last ten minutes trying to remember yesterday's pleasures :). The situation with mum is frustrating and I appreciate everyone's kind words so much.
Congratulations on your new job Haribojunkie!
    jexygirl your place looks gorgeous!

    Mine for yesterday:
    1) getting up early and playing work catch up whilst everyone else asleep
    2) tea courtesy of dp
    3) visiting mum and although she's upset step-dad let her down she (hopefully) is starting to realise that she is in charge of her own destiny now
    4) visiting the library with betty_kitten
    5) watching Harry Hill, pepsimax62 Harry rocks!

"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright

    Morning All

Very damp here this morning, so big muddy paw prints in the hallway:(

Nuttybabe - I would like to have a go at making 'gloop'. (I was waiting until I have used up the giant box of Costco powder, but could use that in the dish washer). I love doing house work science experiments! When I was training as a science teacher I would try to make experiments relevant to real life. One of the most successful ones, during a unit on diffusion, we made gel air freshners using the recipe from Martins Book! :money:

Sooo envious of Sparrer and Ladyhawk going off on hols. Took DH to Jersey for a day trip a few years ago when Thomson were flying from Cov airport. (We had a spate of surprising each other with daft presents!). Had a lovely day. Lots of really nice places to eat:). But, cos it's an island it was expensive! We got a day saver for the bus and did a round trip of the island getting off when the sun was shining and hopping back on the bus when it rained. It was a really good way to see the island, and the best bargain of the trip!

Quick idea for anyone thinking about NT membership. When we got married in Barbados, we took out Barbados NT membership as a momento of our honeymoon and cos it was a fraction of the cost of UK NT and they have reciprocal arrangements in UK. This year we have a New Zealand NT card which was about a third of the cost. (Bought it on line). This may not sit easy with your concience, but we support UK NT by visiting the tea rooms and the shop, not something I would do if we had a full price membership:eek:

5 for yesterday (Acey - I have probs remembering to!).

    1. Thank goodness for cooking bacon! DD had a sleepover fri night and made cooked breakfast in the morning. Managed to get enough decent 'almost' rashers from the cooking bacon for 3 big lads!
    2. Nice feedback on Ebay from buyers. Know how you feel Jexy!
    3. Friends house last night. Shared a Chinese takeaway between 2 families. Mmmmmmmissed takeaways:(
    4. DS2 playing on his new PS3 game we bought him for getting a good report.
    5. Quick zip to the market found a pair of boots for £3.99:money:

Off to do some sewing. Laters! HE x
  • Lovely reading everyone elses pleasures. Had a very quiet day yesterday and it's hard to think of any obvious pleasures - but that's the good thing about this thread - look deeper and there is always joy!

So here are mine for yesterday:

    1) A lie-in.
    2) Took a detour from my very lengthy wordy book about Haiti and picked up a 'thriller' from the library. Kill Chain by Meg Gardiner. Very fast-paced and un-put-downable.
    3) A bath in the middle of the day with above book.
    4) Delish sub-style roll with whoopsied turkey breast and salad.
    5) Watched 'Grey Gardens' about Jackie O's 'odd' aunt and cousin. Fascinating but hard on the ears with all their screeching. Need to look out for the dramatization of it that was shown on More4 - hope it'll be on again.

Just wanted to add that my thoughts go out to everyone in Chile.

    Afternoon all,

    Hope everyone is ok.

    1. Crumpets for breakfast.
    2. Donating couple of tins of paint to a freecycler.
    3. Hearing that a friend who was made redundant may have found another job.
    4. Getting stuff for packed lunches, am determined to succeed in doing this for at least one day!
    5. Reading library books, free and great if I don't enjoy a book, I return it guilt free and cost free.

    Have a relaxing Sunday everyone.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.

Sparrer - they don't care if you plead ignorance at low cost airlines. They will make you take your bag back to check in, unless you can fit your handbag in it. They are truly evil and very unsympathetic. When I was last up in Edinburgh they tried to make a colleague check in her bag at the boarding gate because she had bought a box of sweets in duty free and so had two bags!!! Luckily the colleague is a lawyer so the airline lady got very short shrift! L

Thank you for this Ladyhawk :A, it's good to know someone else's experience and advice on taking chances. I've been through my cupboards and found a soft holdall below the specified size, and got some great packing tips from the Hand Luggage Discussion in the Overseas Holidays and Travel Planning forum. I'm only away for 6 days so can squeeze in/leave out etc etc - better safe than a sorry £40 down :D

jem1276 - love the idea of the earplugs for sleeping when on nights :j - wish I'd thought of that when I was on the graveyard shift. Will have to suggest it to DS2's g/f .

There are loads of sellers selling this type. (am not the seller) I have tried so many but these are the most effective I have found :j
  • Good Afternoon All -despite a very wet night and morning I am feeling much more chipper today - isnt it funny how mood swings creep up on you? Here are my latest 5 ...
    1. Great conversation with my dd over- the -waves yesterday. She called back after her class and continued the conversation that we had been having. Funny because inbetween times I had been thinking about her and what she had said and actually Googled flight prices for a quick trip to be with her. Sigh.
    2. Made a plan
    3. Had a good run with my bf - 5.8 miles in prepn. for next Sundays 10km round the Olympic site. Aiming to get round in less than an hour! Phew.
    4. Followed the advice I gave to my bf and had a lovely positive evening with my darling OH
    5. Slept in 'til 8.00 this morning

Have a good rest of your weekends everyone.

    Good afternoon everyone.

I haven't been on the forum for a couple of days, so I hope everyone's OK. My fives for the last two days:

    Friday
    1) Had a day off so I got a bit of a lie-in (not much of one, as I was waiting for my mum's birthday present to be delivered and I didn't know what time it was coming, but better than nothing)
    2) The present didn't arrive but some books I'd ordered did turn up, so at least I had something to read.
    3) A sunny, windy sort of day, so my washing could go outside for a while (although by the afternoon it was so windy I was worried I was going to have to go and get my washing back from Southampton )
    4) Very lazily did some shopping in Waitrose (it's my closest supermarket but the prices usually put me off going there) and found that it wasn't that much more expensive than Tesco, where I usually shop, and had some good whoopsies, too.
    5) Made a nice slow-cooked lamb curry and had enough left to put in the freezer for another day.

    Saturday
    1) My mum's present turned up, just as I was about to leave the house, which was nice timing.
    2) Spent the day with my younger sister - it was much better than I had thought it would be after our conversation last week, and she was delighted with the presents I bought her (some second hand books and two packs of Haribo, which were on BOGOF in Waitrose :))
    3) Popped into Lakeland and, as my sister has no real interest in such things, I was able to buy only what I went in for and not look too closely at anything else that looked interesting :o
    4) The rain held off until we were both on our way home.
    5) Got home late and hungry, knowing there would be something in the freezer to eat rather than getting a takeaway.
Back after a very long break!

do they know about each other???
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hi all

I did not post yesterday because I was out with a bunch of OSers and somewhere else in the evening so I was too tired to go online when I came back home.

Ollie, Eggy Bread pizza sounds nice, I shall try it, thanks for the suggestion! Award yourself a badge number, a badge and a title (Commander, General, Secretary of State, whatever catches your fancy!).

tabskitten, since the change in constitution of the Eggy Bread Club, it is no longer up to me to assign badge numbers, you are welcome to number 3 if that's what you want!

nuttybabe, what a lovely thought of your DH to get you more sewing stuff!

Ladyhawk, I was really delighted for you that your date went well, crossing fingers that this might be a good'un!

Here are my pleasures for the last two days:

    Saturday:

1 - Waking up with the anticipation of the OS meet, looking forward to meeting friends old and new was a pleasure in itself.

    2 - Meeting them!

3 - The exhibition was really lovely, in fact I went back with Purpleclutterbuck again after all the others had left, it was really interesting and well made. Highly recommended.

4 - The picnic, goodness what a feast!

5 - After the meet, I went to a local Transition Town meeting which was very positive.

    Sunday:

1 - Breakfast in bed (made by me for a change, scoring brownie points with DH who is the usual breakfast maker at weekend!). Toasted muffins and tea.

2 - Long lie in, finishing a book that I loved reading (The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment). Funny, chick-lit style but also intelligent and well written.

3 - DS agreed to come to do the shopping with me - these are good moments to share and he talked about feelings and things that are happening in his life. I felt a tremendous amount of love and tenderness for my lovely boy who is turning out to be a lovely young man. Thanks God.

4 - Yummy lunch leftover soup that DH made last night, with a cup of tea and sesame crunchies for pudding.

5 - Quiet day at home, pottering about, doing a bit of laundry, reading what people posted about our OS meet, typing here...I love the simplicity of days like today.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
