Happy 50th birthday to VJsmum! I'll raise a glass  and give you a slice of virtual cake... :bdaycake:

Another day which I've simply survived! Carol concert tonight for the juniors which we held at the church. Lovely and Christmassy! :xmastree:

This was followed by our staff Christmas do/meal. Yum!

Tomorrow should be slightly more OS..., thank goodness.

Thanks for the cake, I'm stuffed

Welcome back tea lady and old tractor. I like it when everyone is here
Nice to see you here, Camnolliesmum. Hope you feel better soon
CCP so glad your sister has a diagnosis, and that it's mechanical. Seems more fixable somehow
    PK enjoy your time off
Chicken- what does 50 "sound" like? :D. I think that about DD too. Me and Brad Pitt, both 50 today. He has more kids, more money and more wrinkles (still would though :o)
LFS how many hats is that now?
VickyA - it's the time of year when OS goes out the window

    Today's pleasures

1 lovely pressies, perfume, mug, CD, bracelet, vouchers etc etc
2 OH did school run while I had soak in bath
3 lovely cards with some very :o things written in them. Lovely though
4 this will sound 50. OH and I had low key day, mooching in Leamington and Stratford, coffee lunch and afternoon tea in various places. Didnt get main pressie artwork as nothing jumped out, but no worries, I will find it.
5 posh meal out this evening. I enjoyed it most but still v nice for all

Phew , pressures off now. A nice day was had and 50 don't seem so different to 49 after all.:p
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Glad to hear the doctors know what's wrong with your sis CCP, here's hoping they can fix her up soon - before Christmas would be lovely xx

    1. Most of the day in the library, did pootle around a couple of shops first.

    2. Helped out a fellow student by emailing him a few of the articles I'm going to reference in my essay (as yet unstarted)!

    3. Cuddles with DD, more than usual as she crept into my bed at some point during the night. I have no recollection of it, but apparently we talked a lot and woke mummykins up. Oops!!

    4. Took out some books that will hopefully help me work on afore-mentioned essay! Good old library :)

    5. One of the library aunties asked me to wish DD a merry Christmas. DD was most pleased.

Looking forward to more fun and excitement tomorrow - DD's church service, my school church service and staff night out :)

    Evening everyone.

Hiya to the new faces  and welcome back oldtractor and Tealady. I snuck back in a month or two back after a prolonged absence and it took no time at all to feel like I was back home. :D
CCP, it's fantastic that they now have identified the problem that needs solving with your sister. Fingers crossed that they can get a straightforward solution that works.
VJsmum, happy birthday - have some more cake. :bdaycake: It's very MSE to have extra for leftovers the next day.:D
mhagster, have a good journey. Hope you packed the thermals!

    Five pleasures for Wednesday:

    1. Mushroom omelette, speckly mash with carrots and tons of salad stuff for supper. All organic and absolutely delicious.

    2. Discovered the 2009 Guardian list of '1000 novels everyone must read: the definitive list'. I know it's only someone else's opinion but it was fun to go through it and realise that I've read a reasonable number of them and I know I have a fair few unread on my shelves (we have a book-filled house). I can see a project coming on for next year and the year after that, and the year after that... etc :D

    3. Lovely creative conversation with DS1 over supper and afterwards about new ideas for coaching.

    4. NSD & NPD

    5. Ep 5 Last Tango in Halifax.

    Sweet dreams

Just in, just in time to wish vjm a brilliant final 50 mins of matching birfdy.

    1. &forehead slathered with brick dust since Mon, but Thing achieved, Definite today. Visit set. Other matter looking up. Precious Liberty.

    2. Therefore late out, 'cos of 1, but had to persist until...consequent domino effect. P&R late, then took an hour to do the 10 mins>town, which meant&missed another office, which meant&went to Library computer to complete sth, which meant&changed route back, which meant&arrived just as Mr T reduced all Finest artisan bread loaves to 8p - walnut, sunflower/honey, muesli, fruit and nut, Medit.seeds'n'herbs, then Finest pâtisserie all at 4p... Also Lurpak 500gm butters, each with slightly crunched corner-47p . Bought loads to share, everything freezes. Will distribute Friday. Used both wombled tillspits, saving £2.48. Total paid £4.44.

    3. On again off again on again off again since yesterday, via Dr, who is not best pleased at being mucked about by Addenbrookes re: small&op., so had to cry off Spits. What a messed about week this is. It will end joyously though. TM@Koko. Can still get there in time.

    4. Grafton Centre's Little w8rs coffee machine repaired - free Hoorah!.

    5. Dark walk through long arch of tall and venerable trees roaring like the sea.

    6. As I heard the words 'Lady Diana Cooper' on R4's current Book of the Week
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03lpfw , my eyes reached the very same words in Jonathan Raban's 'Old Glory'. Still caught in its mesmeric current.

I am comfortable to be accused of 'despoiling' Pleasures in speaking of the vicious, sickening end to the life, service, character and skills of Dr Abbas Khan. I think Tim will refer to this, given that 'All the proceeds go to Medecins Sans Frontieres and their work in Syria.'

Blessèd and good nights to all and peaceful dreams.

ccp - crimbo stay or no, it has to be good that little sis now has clear diagnosis. Putting a name to something is always a leap forward.

    Quick pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Smaller son took part in his school Christmas concert! I was on strict instructions that I couldn't go (to keep his embarrassment to a minimum) but I've heard he stood in front of the other parents and did a bit of singing. :-)

    3) Brought a massive load of logs. in and stacked them by the fire. Should last til the New Year.

    4) Nice chat with the TA when I picked smaller son up.

    5) Bigger son in a good mood.

    6) Cooked one of their favourite teas. Roasted a duck (half price in Sainsburys) and did some duck pancakes. Also did a pile of special fried rice.

    7) Both my siblings phoned.

oh, and 8) On the way home from school this afternoon, realised I was following my parents on their way home from Brum Christmas market! The usual flashing of headlights to try and get their attention then they (and brother in the back!) had arms through the windows waving to us! Sons found that amusing.

    Morning

Thank you all for the lovely welcome back.
Quickly posting yesterdays pleasures as should be getting ready for work, actually should have got ready and let the house but oh well.

    1. In work early as agreed to cover the reception desk for a couple of hours, very quiet so gave me time to do some internet browsing in peace.
    2. As in early I left early, Hair cut and de-badgered in time for Christmas.
    3. Organised and put the slow cooker on before work so came home to beef casserole. Had taken pre cooked yorkies, roast pots and parsnips out of the freezer in the morning so just had to heat them up. This being organised has its advantages. Tasty HM dinner in minutes of walking through the door
    4. Sorted out the Christmas poster at work, rather than send cards to each other we have a poster that everyone writes a message on and pays £2 which goes to Charity. Works for me as hate writing Christmas cards plus means we can make a donation to a local charity.
    5. Lovely card from Step nephew and his wife. I do like his wife and she is fast becoming a favourite niece. Her family as not so nice so love spoiling them and the kids as know she really appreciates it.

Hugs to all who need them and safe landings to Mhagster.
