Scrabble about in following, pick 5 if you find any, even bop, who was spotted sneaking in with a valid beeb ticket earlier, to hear Jeremy on sprouts in News Quiz, a gorgeous extended riff:

re: which, i.e. beyond-the-stratosphere riffing, &do abundantly know via St Tim the Divine hier soir. He was just in the most fantastic form, revelling in the night, enjoying himself, his musicians, letting rip - utterly. Last day of school, off on hols. We started with White Wine in the Sun[all of us, of course], finished with Halllelujah[already on your very own tube, if amateurish, as mostly with all such hand-held devices] Where he took Dark Side was unbelievable, a total tour de force, virtuoso wild storm brilliance and extended - way over 20 mins - while never letting the musicianship slip or slop for an instant, and we were ALL totally with him. We never know where we're going with this one, where he'll go. Just fantastic.

Some gorgeous new songs - a musical's in gestation - and Waterloo Sunset, beautifully done[original Kinks fan here]. Of course & knows all vintage lyric stuff. And Drowned[love this so and we were treated to extended version]:

We'll have this too:

...broo-ooo-om-stick, where a-r-e you?, 'cos as I bus passed to TCR, then across to Great Russell St, striding along and looking....there was Cornelisson's, straight across the road!!! Did I go in? Did I come out?...wonderful lost hour, have new purple, somehow...http://www.stonemarketing.com/sheaffer-100-glossy-purple-with-patterned-design-fountain-pen.
Coming [STRIKE]up[/STRIKE] out for air, more bus> Zandra Rhodes' place:
http://ftmlondon.org/, as M in France worked for Bellville Sassoon in the 60s.
Wonderful[overworked adjective of the day] and am booked in for talk by Sassoon 3 Jan.
Thought I'd see where Koko was[always like knowing where things/places are ahead of time.] Guess which bus stop?...only MORNINGTON CRESCENT:D:j! and there was Koko, straight across road[yes, yes, just like Cornelissen's], with peeps already queueing...at seize heures trente pour dix-neuf heures. Joined, made AngryFeet.com friends...who worked out who I must be. If I am phan of Tim, these peeps are in another universe[but I'll get there].
The time did pass. The rain did fall. The lightning did flash. The thunder did crater eardrums...and they let us in a bit early. Lovely steward saw me, said 'follow me' and took me to own little balcony, fantastic spot. angryfeeters who'd taken me under wing were down below, but at side. Could hear them concerned they'd lost me. They looked up. Up they came. But downside came...this box was for family TM.[no wonder it was best spot]BUT, 'cos it was not & culpable, taken to 'nother box, free 'refreshments' for our trio...thankyou!
Back out in world, after-effects of horrifying Apollo event[not known to me until 2am] included no suitable buses. Seemed odd. Cold wet hours. Couldn't reach Victoria in time. Eventually[4am]found way to YH Rotherhithe, where I thankfully defrosted, dozed until 6, then back to Victoria, then to Fens, then to car, then to debadgering@College salon[magenta under-streak renewed], then to w8rs[rtc peaches, fancy ones,10p], then to tailend of news quiz, then to pick up neighbour's bunnies' carrots, then to &squat.
Now to bed. Still no op. date though.
It was a fabulous day.
Thanks truly given for yellow thing, makes everything better.
Days start lengthening as of NOW:T.

Are you there yet, MHags?
Here are my pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons both happy on arrival at school and both saying they will miss going for a few weeks!
3) Few odd jobs done round the house.
4) Went to see neighbour (lady 2 doors away, not THAT one) to take her Christmas card and she gave me a jar of her plum chutney.
5) Took card to couple I know in the next village and ended up stopping about an hour and having a cup of tea. She is best friends with ex mother in law so always interesting to have a chat with her.
6) Smaller son got 100% attendance this term and an Aspiration award for his writing. Also supposed to go to lunch with the head teacher for gold zone but when I asked him, he said he didn't know where to go so just went to the canteen and had his lunch as normal! No one missed him. :-S
7) Got bigger son into the barbers (no mean feat) and he had a few inches of hair off. A very handsome man sat next to me in the waiting area bit but my ardour was cooled somewhat when the barber's dog (a tiny little poodle thing that is so ancient it just sits and trembles on a comfy chair) started choking, seemingly to death then was sick!
8) HM chicken nuggets, chips and beans for tea which is always popular.
9) Looking forward to News Quiz later.
10) Stove going well despite a terrible storm so I am nice and warm.0 -
Evening all.
DfV, this is the link. http://www.theguardian.com/books/2009/jan/23/bestbooks-fiction I'm sure there must be other lists like it on the web and there are definitely gaps in this one. I reckon that, going at the list gently (average one a week?) it will take me about 15 years to get through the ones I haven't ever read excluding some (eg the more realistic crime fiction) that I know I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. :eek:but I quite fancy reading out of my comfort zone though.
Ampersand, I am h-eee-ee-re(which is me very green with envy at the new purple, somehow... http://www.stonemarketing.com/sheaff...n-fountain-pen. How lovely!) Only an hour? That was very disciplined of you. Shall I add another temptation? Do you know the Persephone Books shop in Lambs Conduit St? (Runs away before I am responsible for you spending any more money.
)
Five pleasures for Friday:
1. Took my parents to do their Christmas food shop. I was the taxi, DS2 was the bag carrier. We started early enough to avoid crowds and stopped for a coffee when we had got the job done. They were very pleased.
2. Got the wreath up on the front door minus the failed, dried, wrinkled, prune-like, rose-hip things. Substituted them with some ribbons I found. The tree, lights and decorations are all sorted ready to go up tomorrow on Solstice which is what we do every year.
3. A box of After Eights appeared on the kitchen counter. Discovered that DS1 had remembered to cash in a MrT voucher for a freebie box. :T
4. Stopped at the bread shop in a nearby village for their sourdough which is gorgeous, plus a cinnamon bun for DS2.
5. Listening to Watership Down on R4 extra. Two one hour episodes. Just right to have in the background while doing things
Sweet dreams

Quite why MSE should now decide I need to log in every 20 minutes, I don't know. Lost lengthy post as result.
1. Live music club Christmas bash - lovely people, music and atmosphere. Some spellbinding singing, caught on video too.
2. Shopping locally in our revamped town centre. No need to travel to nearest big town.
3. Not OS but music bought from Am@zon in recent years now all stored on my hard drive and on Cloud storage for use on mobile.
4. Baking first lot of mince pies with mostly rather ancient equipment, the comfort of timelessness, the memories of many Christmases past when I rolled and cut in the same way.
Even if it served me right for using frozen sweet shortcrust when it turned out to be the most fragile pastry I have ever handled, ever.
It took all my skills to get the pastry into and out of the tins in one piece. Will make my own pastry for the rest of the pies and leave the two packs still in the freezer for something else. Now I know why it was 40p a pack or three for a quid, despite being Jus-Rol. I know sweet shortcrust usually is a bit more fragile but this was exceptionally so.
5. Waking up from a doze in time to prepare tea for Dr C, a bit of experimentation producing a tasty meal. The cheap freezer shop had tins of Campbell's condensed soup (labelled Batchelor's) for 40p, I love these as an ingredient. A can of mushroom soup stretched the honey and mustard cooking sauce for chicken and mushrooms without providing a flavour clash.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Hello in real time!
Partaking of my mother's Internet!
Long flight but it always is so we just have to lump it! Watched a few films, snoozed a bit , ate a bit. 15 hour flight and then an 8 hour flight. The view over Iraq and then Europe was amazing . I don't usually sit at the window but I was so spent quite a bit of time looking out at the view. We followed the Rhine and then a hop, skip and a jump over Netherlands and we were in UK. The UK coastline was amazing and then as we came into Scotland it was clouds all the way!
Holiday cottage is gorgeous, fully equipped and cosy. It is not cheap but it is our holiday! My tesco delivery had already been and gone and owner had put it all away for me
Had a bath......then had another one this morning! Aaah!
( we are water metered back home)
Biggest hugs with my great niece...have been waiting a whole year for that.
Mum and MIL came over...had home made shortbread made by owners.
Friends popped in and so lovely to see them.
Today:
Went into town first thing ....everything is so cheap! ( in the cheapy shops)
Now at mums to say hello, then heading out to meet friends for lunch. Then MIL this afternoon.
Tis blooming chilly and breezy and rainy! But hey we can wrap up warm....I am happy wearing my coat and boots and gloves!
Had a roll and sliced sausage for breakfast and already tanked into the irn bru dundee doll
Right bye for now x0 -
Welcome back to Britain, mhagster! I just hope the weather's better in Scotland than it is in England - we've got torrential rain and gale-force winds here.
Some pleasures for yesterday:
1) Went up to London for the Christmas horse show - I bought the train tickets online so they were a bit cheaper than if we'd paid at the station.
2) I managed to be pretty good with shopping - I bought a fake fur ear-warming band from a charity stall, a new pair of very unusual amber earrings (:o), and a 'London cheesecake', a home counties speciality which I haven't seen since I moved away from Surrey eight years ago. (I ate it for breakfast this morning and have to say I don't remember them being quite so overpoweringly sweet!)
3) Got a nice little free gift bag from a Scottish company for signing up to their mailing list. :money:
4) Watched and enjoyed a bit of showjumping, despite the group of kids sitting next to us who needed superglue on their bums (or a parent to tell them to sit down for five minutes - either would have done the trick!).
5) Got home to find Isis is still not talking to me, but has finally discovered the sofa so at least I can see her while she's sulking now!Back after a very long break!0 -
YAY, Mhags! You're back and welcome back! What lovely pleasures. Sounds as if your holiday cottage is ticking all the boxes. Sliced sausage is very popular in the North of England too. Ages since I had a square sausage roll and now I want one.
I often have a diet Irn Bru mini bottle from the cheap freezer shop before cycling home after shopping. It was a happy day for me when I discovered Irn Bru. We didn't have it in Wales.
Rain, then sun here but it's windy. Glad I went shopping yesterday and no necessity to cycle into the teeth of a gale.
Quite a few of my online pals have been/are going to Olympia CCP, what a bummer about the unruly kids when you had looked forward to it for so long, but glad you enjoyed.
Numerous parcels are due to arrive so I am tied to the house in the hope that they do. DGS's Chrimbo pressie parts 1 & 2, Dr C's Chrimbo pressie part 2 and a few other bits and pieces. It's a long cycle down to the post office depot and a head wind all the way.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
