OH and I went a drive to a very pretty town called Yea and we found a very pretty cafe and sat in its very pretty courtyard veg garden with very pretty butterflies flitting about us. Had a very nice lunch with a very nice pudding of fresh cream sponge with strawberries :)

    Sounds idyllic Mhags

Well still very little happening here so am enjoying all your pleasures, will try for 5 for Saturday

    1. up at 7am (not a pleasure) for British Heart Foundation coming to pick up huge desk/computer table between 8am and 2pm. Watched latest Poirot recorded and they arrived about 9.30am, so pleased its gone and done a bit more for charity

    2. managed to get a load of washing done and out on line for an hour between rain lashing down

    3. very lazy all day - not much housework done just reading and watching tv

    4. too wet and windy to get out for a walk so I dusted off my treadmill... which has been more use as a clothes horse over summer months :o and did a walk/run... oooh get me ... running :p wouldn't see me doing that in public :rotfl:

    5. spent the evening laid on the sofa [STRIKE]recovering[/STRIKE] :o being lazy really, snuggled under throws and listening to the wind howling outside

Sun is shining at the moment so I plan to get more washing out pegged down well or my smalls may end in in neighbours garden ;) Will be packing away patio table and chairs and anything else not nailed down ready for the storm tonight

    Stay safe everyone x

  • YiPee it is Sunday, and only one more to go until boni night. Everyone will be celebrating my birthday again and Big Sis wioll be in her usual mood about it! Baked tatties everywhere.

5 Dippy eggs this morn with loads of soldiers. But we were clean out of marmite. Still, mega dip sessions had.

4 Ms Whack is getting far too good at Scrabble, struggling to beat her. Fortunately her cheating at trying to score caught her out last night and we had to remove her squeezed. She counted it wrong and hence it had top be re racked.. Still champion!

3 Just having a tea and Jam Sandwich biscuit. Cannot beat it. Ms BoP is too good, She has just gets the Shopping in, and she has not spent £30 again. Those bottles from the tree yesterday have unfortunately not made the morning.

2 About time as well that Big Sis has had her colonoscopy done. Took her a while but she is fine. Now at least she is in the system. Doesn't hurt, but boy, does you make sounds afterwards.

    1 Another thing.

    Just lost a long post!

Mhags - our local town has been knitting bombed as well with trees with "leggings" on and a knitted bike!

Skint - BHF are good. My sofa and TV cabinet came from there.

BoP - hope your sister gets on OK.

Updating now because it is getting busy here. Inside trying to avoid MrN's new girlfriend who has walked past about 300 times. :-/ A closer look has confirmed she is in her late 50's/early 60's. Nothing wrong with that (and much closer in age to MrN than I was) except at 38 I feel a bit uncomfortable wondering why he was with me.

    Anyway! Pleasures for today:

    1) An extra hour in bed. Will spend today having no clue what the time is.

    2) Smaller son has gone to Slimbridge and looked happy enough to be going. Sent him with 8 fairy cakes, HM bread sandwiches etc so he should be alright.

    3) Bigger son is very happy in the kitchen carving a pumpkin.

    4) Power already gone off a couple of times in the wind so just been doing jobs that are easier with electricity! Washing machine on, have cleaned kitchen and so on.

    5) Made a picnic for bigger son and I but we changed our minds about heading out into the rain so will eat it in here in a bit.

    6) Brother in law has invited bigger son around to talk about Warhammer and dungeons and dragons.

    7) Sister has invited me to Ikea! It's miles from here but sister is about half way so I shall drop bigger son off there then we can nip up the motorway. Hardly ever get to go but shall get a washable rug for in front of the stove and some more 100 for £2 tealights.

    8) Everyone converging at sister's house later on. Me and sister back down the M5, smaller son up the M5.

    That's about it.

    Afternoon

Hang on to your hats on the south coast - it's gonna be a rough un tonight.

Mhags - love the concept of guerrilla knitting :D

    Hello whitesatin

    PLeasures for yesterday

    1. woke up at 5.30 - but went back to sleep till 7.40, bliss :T
    2. OH and I were out all day. we are putting some pension into a house for rent, so went house hunting. It is a different thing when looking for something you are not going to live in. Have a short list of 3 so going to ask a letting agent for advice - though apparently "anything lets in this town". Saw a couple of horrors along the way though.
    3. stopped for a yummy bacon sarnie at a retro caf! - looks like a milk bar / diner from the 1950s
    4. OH and I are electrical geniuses (genii?) our thermostat went Friday night. OH says "You'd better get an electrician in next week" (he is conveniently away), I do quick youtube and reckon we could do it ourselves. And we did :T and it works :p
    5. WEnt out for curry with kids - lovely. Spent what we saved on electrician

Have a great evening all and stay safe.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Overdue Bienvenue to you, white satin. I know I did this once, but it might have been in one of my disappeared posts[which baton I have now passed carefully to Frith]

Briefly in, maybe not briefly, for major-general scrubby of hands and nails.
Despite gloves, outdoor worky day still makes for good feeling mucky. Also, MANY SLUGS DEAD - don't ask how.

    1. This is so brilliant, on now, inside and out @&squat. Sword of Honour:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03f87yp

TV without piccy, bop. No licence fee. Superbly done, as was History Boys hier.

    2. Just had a lovely pause cup of tea[and a choc.icecream slice. No, dkw either. It just appealed suddenly] staring out at...

    3. Chewed-down outback, long and verdant since before France; conditions unsuitable since. Today is not better, but rising wind against waving lush greenery made it mowable, just. Also did all fronts, self and 2 neighbours'.

    4. No green tomato anything this year as kilos and kilos have all gone suddenly nasty, so have uprooted them. Ditto courgettes. Deadheaded roses. Some tying and staking of 2 massive don't-know-name, which I understood were little border plants. No. Taller than me and I can't even get my arms around them. Luckily I put in only 2, but they've massed over the front border. Have stacked, moved, weighted down all likely storm migrants. Think I'd better help check neighbour's Bunny Towers before it's too difficult/late.

    5. Steak, a chicken, prawns from no.1 shed for slow fridge thaw - week's food sorted thus. Rainbow chard picked, to have with today's last 2 baby courgettes+flowers.

    6. Small vase with last pink rose and a few sweet peas fresh at kitchen window. Have ? to post on greenfingered thread now.

Well done VJMumPlumb - SO gratifying and extreme SmugBarSteward feeling merits curry.
The wind is really on the noisy Up now....FenCountry:-)
Strong wishes that everyone stays safe and secure overnight.

Been MIA for a few weeks as work has been very busy as has social life for the last couple of weeks. So some pleasures but not very OS for the last couple of weeks,

    1. Fab day with the rainbows on their funday making the teacup biscuits which went really well.
    2. A very posh private housing estate had a garden open day, they are victorian japanese water gardens which are so stunning. Spent a happy couple of hours there with DD wandering around all the little hidden paths. Afterwards went for a very nice afternoon tea in the posh hotel next door, very yummy indeed.
    3. Couple of days working in Newcastle which was interesting and hotel was great as they upgraded me to a suite and offered free wine, cheese and biscuits on both nights.
    4. From Newcastle I travelled to parents for the weekend which was a lovely short journey. OH and DD met me there and we had a great weekend celebrating DD's 18th birthday a few days early with my family. Had a lovely lunch out on Saturday with parents, brothers, sister-in-laws, niece and her husband. All very relaxed and great food. Also got to catch up with my best friend and her DD, when we see each other we just click into our friendship and would not realise we haven't seen each other for a year. Seeing her though makes me realise how much I miss her not being around the corner. Also saw cousin and her husband which was nice.
    5. Celebrated friends 50th birthday treat on Thursday with a spa day, oh my was so good and then had lovely afternoon tea afterwards and as was paid for months ago on a deal was a LSD. We all laughed so much we got into trouble for being too noisy, oops.
    6. Friday was DD's 18th. Am I really old enough to have an 18 year old daughter, it appears yes. She got lots of lovely presents and birthday wishes. We went to Gunwharf Quays for the day and the weather was so nice. Lots of shopping done and a trip up the Spinnaker Tower, amazing views. Then had a nice family meal where DD was given a free cocktail.
    7. Yesterday was a meal out with OH family to celebrate, again nice meal and great company. OH bumped into an old work collegue who also insisted on buying DD a drink.

Now back to OS and pleasures for today,
    1. Relaxing morning reading the papers, drinking tea and eating toast. Perfect sunday morning
    2. Washing dried on the line and didn't blow away.
    3. Lots of cooking done to use up things lurking in the fridge before it went off. Potatoes cooked and mashed and frozen into portions for DD to have, she loves mash. Parsnip and Carrot soup made for OH and frozen into portions again, also did him some roast parsnips again portioned and froze (he is the only one who likes parsnips. Lots of apples cooked and froze for porridge. Peppers and Onions roasted, added some cooked mushrooms to the mix to be added to pasta for my lunches, again portioned and froze. Also made a small amount of tomato and red wine sauce from wrinkly tomatoes. Half a chicken roasted and stripped down for OH packed lunches. Nice to get some time in my kitchen after being out and about so much lately.
    4. Just found out that work trip for next week has been cancelled but train and hotel are non refundable so have booked DD a train ticket and will take as a few days leave. Other than work have never spent time in Swansea so hoping the weather clears by Tuesday and there isn't much storm damage.
    5. Tea and left over birthday cake this afternoon.

Hugs to all who need them and hope everyone stays safe in the storms tonight.

    Evening all.

Tealady - you should have let me know you were in Portsmouth - I could have waved to you! Glad you had a nice time, though.

VJsmum - you're going to be nice landlords, aren't you? The fact you're being fussy about the type of property you take on tells me that! :) (From a long-term tenant who has had some less than brilliant landlords!)

mhagster - there was a spate of yarn-bombing around Portsmouth a year or so ago, and some trees still have their scarfs. Always makes me smile when I see them.

    1) NSD and NPD.

    2) Clocks changed giving time for a lie-in, so of course I woke up early for once. It meant I had plenty of time to start battening down the hatches out in the garden before the start of the grand prix, though.

    3) My entry in the He11mans sandwich competition is securely inside the top 100, despite having not asked anyone to vote for it. :D That's not an unsubtle attempt at vote canvassing, BTW - well, maybe it is slightly! :o (If you haven't had a play with this, it's quite fun in a silly sort of way.)

    4) Ploughed my way through the play that makes up the next part of my OU course - I read fast so I managed it in under 45 minutes rather than the 2 to 3 hours they suggest, which was something of a relief.

    5) Making sausage and tomato soup for dinner tonight, using another batch of HG tomatoes which ripened after I had already mentally consigned them to green tomato chutney.

Hope everyone is safely battened down and ready for the storm tonight - stay safe, all!
Back after a very long break!

    Lovely sandwich:-) One vote more.
    Oh -
    7. nsd/npd [merci ccp and what is the play please?].
    8. Not-indoor hyacinths on vases. 3 of them. We'll see if they work anyway.
    9. Looking forward to i-player Montalbano, which I never remember, making it always an 'Oh, good!', regardless of how bad the plot, the women. It starts with the music making a Vettriano dancer of me, which is the only time...and toute seule, bien sûr.
    10. - if not asleep, also Tim Minchin on QI and the Autumn thing.
    11. Michele Guittari is my new-to-me Latest Completist Read Need, a wonder he's still alive. Courageous and good brooding-looking fella too....good in tandem with Montalbano. Google translation is its usual self, but re-assemble the bones:http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michele_Giuttari&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmichele%2Bgiuttari%26sa%3DX%26rlz%3D1C1GGIT_enGB308GB353%26espv%3D210%26es_sm%3D93%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D673

  • Good evening all !

whitesatin-welcome ! I would be staring at and stroking that CK suitcase.

VJsmum - clever old Sparky you;) re the house -Is this the second one ?

Frith - why is Mr. N's new girlfriend walking past ...and past and past..?. is she trying to errr ...pee in the corners ?? I would go out to put something in my bin in just... my underwear and high heels...that would stop her:rotfl:But then I am a bit crackers and don't get on that well with women in real life:o Can't think why !!

    5 for today

    1. Loved the washing flapping violently on the line .

2.Made some buttery oat biscuits -taste just like Snicke*s

    3. Made some pizza dough in BM and made two for tea.

    4. Took the terrier out to the park . The wind made the ball go further than any Olympian could throw it. The dog was a tiny white "smiling" dot in the distance, which tickled me no end.

5.Loaf in BM - should be done soon.

Parked on street in case tiles came adrift from the roof on to the OGV on the drive. Lets see whats left of my fences in the morning... OH is off so he is able to keep and eye on the pets and the pensioner ..Keep safe xxx
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A
