  • I'm growly today. I dislike seeing DS upset especially by an adult. Especially by the head of sixth form who has been picking on him constantly since he went back. I shouldn't be seeing him in tears saying he doesn't know how much longer he can take it. And now she says he can't volunteer at the sister site unless he takes out his face piercings. The new head teacher of both sites has face piercings. I'm big, you're small, I'm right, you're wrong. Grrr:mad: Now she has banned scarves and gloves..after DS started wearing them and as winter approaches. She didn't say anything to the girls wearing them, just DS.
    so...rant over...
    pleasures..

  • Welcome back Ampersand. Wow that is serious mileage.
    1. My work pleasure was researching in my lunch time remote small Scotland camp sites, keeps me busy and stops me spending and pounds.
    2. Hoping fingers crossed that we will be able to take the new COL to Scotland next year planning to spend some time touring, a new van and new opportunities.
    3. Spent most of this evening researching Scottish islands with the power of google maps, :cool:plotting possible journeys and times, it’s not for a fair while yet but I am in my element when researching.:o
    4. Leftovers for tea, and HM cup cake for desert:p
    5. I’ve taken rather a lot of vitimins and evening primrose in the hope it will make me able to fake smiles tomorrow at work, :rotfl:

LFS - blatant discrimination :( Poor DS, hope the situation gets sorted - soon!

Right, am getting myself down about how little I perceive I know about:
    a) any subject, especially those in the Primary National Curriculum!
    b) how to be professional
    c) whether I can even put pieces of paper in the right place in a folder I'm setting up........

so I think it must be time for bed! It will all seem better in the morning once I've had a pray about it, a sleep, and a bit of calm time. It's one of those nights where I wish DD was curled up in my bed so I could have a cuddle...

LFS - sorry to hear about your son's time at Sixth Form. :-( (If you look back through the posts, probably almost a year to the day, you can read what happened to my son when his school were as awkward as possible....)

    Welcome back, Ampersand.

Here are my pleasures for today:

    1) It took 1 hour 10 minutes to get smaller son to school thanks to the council shutting one of the few bridges over the river Severn. Pleasure was they were both very patient sitting in the car!

    2) Both sons had a good day at school.

    3) Went to Sainsburys.

    4) Took the final mattress down to mum and dad's to go on the bonfire.

    5) Stove going well tonight. It rained ALL DAY, or at least until this evening.

    6) Brother fitted a cat flap for me.

    7) Funny tonight trying to teach all the cats how to use the catflap! Ended up with Mrs No Tail sitting on the patio looking cross, and Barry and Small Cat asleep on the table in the living room.

Had better post my quick collection and read / comment later, but did ache at LFS's and rejoice with Ampersand's.
    1. Made it out to the Cheap Fruit and Veg shop for the first time in months, chief good buys were a bag of small tomatoes for 50p and a bag of small sweet peppers for the same, along with some eat-quick nectarines and mushrooms.

    2. New Covent Garden Soups 3 for £1.20 in Heron Foods, use by is this Sat. Delicious. Can't believe they were that cheap.

    3. More food - related pleasures: had a go at Jack Monroe's famous kidney bean 'burgers'. DS not that impressed as he likes his food packed with flavour and texture and doesn't do bland. I realised afterwards that Jack has a toddler son and the food was bound to be bland on the spice quantities she used .
I'll work out what I can put in to make them more interesting next time. The blog had some good suggestions. They are worth doing again imo, but not that exact recipe.

    4. I met another trike rider in our town centre! :j:j:j We had such a lovely chat, she was an ex-bike rider who nearly wiped herself out when her weak back went into spasm and threw her from her bike.
She really struggled with the trike at first, as good bike riders will, but loves it now. Her trike was much bigger than mine, 24 inch wheels as against my 20 inch wheels, and built on a heavyweight frame.
She told me she is also constantly questioned about it by people wanting one (as I am); we joked that we shall soon see a fleet of trikes triumphantly replacing mobility scooters in the town.

    5. My new heated throw, which I bought at A!di yesterday. I was lucky, I specifically wanted a brown and cream one and one was left, amongst the zebra prints and aubergines.
It is brilliant. I have had various throws and fleeces to keep me warm as I type, this is the best.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • ampersand - welcome back !:j

    CCP - get two ;)

LFS- I am sorry to hear that your son is being singled out for what it sounds like just "being himself" ... This is sooo wrong.

PK- How exciting. I love Scotland

Have a good day all !

Hello, hello it's Tuesday afternoon and leftover macaroni and rtc cake for dinner is easy peasy!

Urgh to a early start again this morning but beautiful sunrise over the distant hills as I drove to work made up for it.

The bottle brush plants are in full bloom. Stunning bright red bottle brushes! The birds , especially the minah birds love them.

If I don't look at the weeds my garden is looking stunning, everything is in full bloom. All the roses are budding or in flower and the colours are glorious ...from pastel apricots to fuscia pink.

It has stayed dry today...not warm but dry. Tomorrow is forecast to be sunny and then back to winter in Thursday ....I am anticipating tomorrow ...I'm off!

Started a new book that has been kicking around for ages. Sat and wrote some ( sad I know) Christmas cards out. I'd written a list the other day so I knew how many stamps I'd need to buy....so just started writing them...in my defence they do need to be posted in a couple of weeks!

OHs flights are delayed but he's on his way home to us.

Work was okay....another day another dollar. Working with one of the chefs I really like ( like them all but she's funny and keen to share her knowledge) working with a new barista who is very good at his job, very nice and quite funny! He had the hots for one of our customers ....made me find out her name. Another group of customers were talking about feeling 'so old!' They were about 20 years old....I just raised my eyebrows and they all burst out laughing! Working with my main colleague who has lots of work dilemmas at the moment but good to see her. All that and I get paid and I had avocado on toast with amazing mushrooms ...see Mhags it wasn't that bad really!

Right I'm off to reheat some macaroni....only so I can have cake after :)

Have the loveliest Tuesday everyone. Looking forward to hearing ampersands tales!

ampersand - wow, what a story! It's good to see you back, and look forward to hearing more.

LFS - that sounds like blatant sex discrimination to me. I'd be kicking up a hell of a stink in your DS' place, but I've always been the argumentative type!

PK - going slightly green with envy here - I've always wanted to visit the Scottish islands.
    CCP - get two ;)

I won't say it hasn't crossed my mind! There's a pair on the website - one tabby and white, one ginger - who I like very much indeed. It bothers me slightly thinking that I would be outnumbered by furries, but then I think of LFS' collection (it is you who has loads, isn't it LFS?) and realise that 2 to 1 would be no problem in comparison!
Back after a very long break!

Things kept happening. So glad to be back here!

Kittikins - council tax refund - excellent timing! (Still not touching -ize with a stick!) Cuddles & silliness vital for Best Mummy bit & well done both of you for having a tame librarian! Erg - placements- touching faith you'll be fine. Get the sleep in!
VJsmum - train events: the gent cannot have pressed the right button! Driers eat money in exchange for dry underpants. I reckon that's a fair deal.
Frith - tidy logs are a treat. Penknife wielding son fine, but check blade properly clean & sharp before & after?! Also, perhaps, contingent on homework done first? Cats need to be *taught* to use a catflap?!
mhagster - storm I understand, ironing (even while watching Casualty) I do not. Christmas post is the devils own to job to pay for - have decided to go to email this year. Macaroni cheese is food fit for gods (especially when I throw in a handful of bacon...) Hurrah OH coming home!
BoP - ah - man toast in terms even I understand! Black Treacle being mined in anticipation. Hope Tiger recovering.
Skint yet Again - you're 20 minutes from foreshore to furry throw? <covet>
sparrer - broken mop - not sure to lament or hurrah (perfect pretext?)
lovefullshelves - atta girl with the pension forms & hurrah for cs wicker basket! Write to school, name & shame picky wombat, point out double standards re:piercings, & copy into governors re:scarves & gloves (as that's Plain Dumb)! Laundry in greenhouse - GENIUS!
Purple kitten - you haven't quite sussed delegating while fractured yet, but hurrah for van as well as caravan. "Build in pet cages"?! Apples gathered by gravity are usually quite usable. Atta girl using Google maps for research - proper planning makes for loads more fun.
DD - if ham & veg soup can't rout the remains of a cold, add a dash of brandy.
Chickenopolis - glad to hear you have Sundays sorted, including OH cooking! Congratulations on mentoring & on using fresh chilli to finally sort cold...
CCP - simplest way to get new puddy - go visit them. Whichever snares most of your heart in person is the one. This online dating lark just burns broadband.
ampersand - blimey! That ticket came with bonus features!
mcculloch - had same problem with bean burgers, but son chopped a jalapeno onto his. Other sons went for pepper & brown sauce. Love the sound of the heated throw!

    OS Pleasures over the weekend

Experimenting with Google Chrome at the library. Nice teenager beside me sweetly helpful! Library defaults are *not* - no forum! No MSE at all! I may Facebook (pshaw) & read the FT...

Ah, the eye-watering delights if a mess of fresh leeks & other alliums! What germ dare withstand such a gustatory onslaught?

The unexplained quiet appears to be explained - apparently a son is reprising his chocolate eclair baking lesson, at home! ...Assorted noises suggest it has not been a success.

Hours of strong language, hunting bits of kit across three floors & through two brother's bedrooms - comes down to the return from a DofE practice walk with a slightly weary but utterly chuffed grin...

Discovered my go-to waterproof has mitten clips! My inner toddler is delighted - the string was always a bit uncomfortable.

Walked past a hedge with lovely berries on it, heading for the car.

Colleague encouraging us to accept the loan of a Christmas decoration for our desks - a borrowed reindeer now tucked behind the monitor where I can see it, but not Generally On Display.

Sharing phone snaps, a colleague & I reminisced over eccentric family - we are privileged to have known some remarkable men & women.

Son picked "Tea and Tea Drinking" from the library for me - small but delightful read & by no means the wind-up I initially suspected him of...

Big hugs to all who need them!

PK congrats on the new van. Love Scotland, it will be a real labour of love to plan and venture to the Highlands :)
lfs I'm very angry for you, and your DS. People in positions of authority should know better to than to play games with students feelings. She's a bully, like CCP and DFV I'd be doing something about it - I'd certainly make an appt to have a word with her superior.
ampersand pleased you enjoyed Superstar, one of my faves
Frith that's going to be some bonfire, is it for Nov 5th? It's one of the few occasions that brings good memories of childhood, potatoes, chestnuts, toffee apples and cocoa. Happy times
mcculloch I too thought Jack's burgers were a bit bland so I add a tiny shake of dried herbs and garlic, big tubs bought in The R@nge for a couple of £ each and last for ever. Will be interested to know how you flavour your next ones
mhags pleased to hear work still has its sunny sides, as does your weather. Enjoy your day off. And the cake :D
BoP sending healing vibes for the marmalade mog
Kittikins I love reading the pleasures you and your DD get from life together. You really are a lovely mum :)
DD pignuts made me burst out laughing, a wonderfully expressive comment :D
chicken your OH's meal had me drooling, especially the leeks in cheese sauce

    1. made a big pan of soup, it smells so good it's not going to last long
    2. the above has also produced a small tub of pure beef dripping, frozen for the next time I have roast tatties/parsnips. Making my mouth water thinking about it!
    3. haven't managed to buy a new mop handle yet. If I don't soon the kitchen is going to look like a mud bath with the soggy doggy and moggy traipsing in and out. Managed a quick spot clean with a floor cloth :o
    4. housework day, a very peculiar pleasure but haven't had time to do any for ages. So far the sitting room and bathroom look nice and shiny, kitchen after lunch. But is it just me who does some housework and not get any visitors for days afterwards, when the dust has settled again?!
    5. Ignore that, DGD1 just sent a text to say she's coming for tea :D

Have a good rest of the day :)
