Kittikins - sleep is Wonderful. Get all you can. Remember, sleepovers mean the house is tidied by the hostess, *not* her mother, who can veto right up to the last hour!
lovefullshelves - intriguing foodstuffs, wondrous family history & the mental image of you in short skirt & big hefty biker boots - BRILLIANT!
Frith - always good to hear bats are surviving, even if they do leave a distinctive niff. Hurrah for surprise engagement party - congratulations & all the best to future-brother-in-law & sister Frith! (Story with ring? Tell us, Precious?)
mhagster - hurrah for Sunday slave labour whith you on the sofa - dead right too!
sparrer - hope the guest bed is right up to standard, have a lovely time with the Shuttleworth whoopee and just *wow* at that beautiful & appropriate celebration (says she, wiping eyes at keyboard)
VJsmum - I did look for horse at Mr.T's but just smelled some near the Customer Service section. Oh My Word yes, DofE calls ringing a worrying number of bells...! (Mine had left his medication behind. So I negotiated a "cache" for them to find....) Blink hard at the vinegar niff & focus on the yummy chutney to come!
Chickenopolis - exercise bike and TV? Not a combination that occurs to me, but I can see how the Furher would improve the pedalling speed, ulp.
BoP - *real* lumpy custard? Properly made with a fork? I may have to ship a son over for lessons...
Tealady - someone else who admits to fishfinger butties! (Food of the Gods, and of latchkey schoolchild home from school & ravenous. My number one comfort food, even ahead of Chocolate!)
CCP - I'm leaving my war on ivy til December, when I turn it into Christmas decorations. (I've even tied parcels with it on occasion.) Good luck with the mystery bulbs!
OS pleasures
The understanding and speed with which Lloyds pulled my card after I reported being pick pocketed. (Strong contrast to Barclays who were substantially less helpful but did lock the card. Why they have 'your favourite food' as a security question baffles me, as mine changes! Ah well.)
The willingness to try to help, in the face of unfamiliar IT systems on a Sunday morning, by a young man at Asda House in Leeds. We managed to lock a gift card & I picked a replacement up shortly after, at my local store. (Hurrah! While I await a bank card, we can Still Eat fresh stuff as well as The Can Stash.)
My family heroically abandoned a seriously juicy car boot to come to my aid. And who *didn't* say all sorts of "warned you" type comments, but got on with checking roads, coat pockets, trouser pockets, car etc until we were all clear it had Gone.
A son who (once we got into the museum by prior arrangement, membership card being nicked) not only sat quietly & let me watch then try a wonderful old spinning wheel, but decided he'd have a go himself! Just for *trying* I was So Proud of him; that he did better than I made me even happier!
A pal on Facebook said "don't let them take your self confidence" - actually they made me realise the *huge* number of blessings I am surrounded by, family, friends, modern IT systems, mobile telephony, Internet etc. A decade ago, it would have been seriously dire.
Oh & in future, Wallet On A Chain...
Some weeks ago, I puttered around HoF, picking up perfume tester cards with the intention of decorating a file for a sad cousin. Today youngest demanded French Things for his French book (his father's suggestion was met with a *wonderful* baffled look; they really are That Young for Such-a-short-time) & having eviscerated assorted back numbers of The Economist, has pleaded with me for more French things. (They say Dior, & Yves St Laurent, & Lancome, & look austerely elegant & chic. So my *son* is having the fun with style & sticky backed plastic.)
Watching Countryfile (in Abergavenny) and chortling at both the lack of Welsh accents & the chirps of "I recognise that place!" from our holidays... Although there were a few real voices towards the end.
Huge hugs to all who need them!0 -
1. Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, had a lie in til 10:30!
2. Sunshine
3. A text from another lovely uni chum
4. Feeling like going to Uni tomorrow is very likely, yay, I'm nearly all better!
5. Had to go to nearest big town to take some clothes back to a shop and went in, did what I needed to and got the heck out of there, so a very low spend day, just bought essentials and parking.0 -
Chicken - yes, sister does have a mad terrier!
Here are my pleasures for today.
1) A good sleep! Woke up at 10.
2) Another coat of paint on the kitchen shelves. Big holiday from painting after this lot is over.
3) Porridge and raspberries for breakfast.
4) 3.5 hours walk this afternoon up to the nearest Iron Age Hill Fort. Can't believe how high it was! Found 10 geocaches as well.
5) Sons back from their father's.
6) A very rare phone call from my house mate at University so I was able to tell him my sister's engagement news. :-)
That's about it for today!0 -
Chicken, takes one to know one
BoP you really must be a bit more confident, no use putting yourself down all the time :rotfl:
Tea lady, I make great use of club card vouchers. Mostly gt mine thro credit card rather than shop. Tho I do have a lot of money off vouchers that might make it worth a trip
CCP /DforV love the idea of ivy to wrap, parcels
Kittikins glad you're on the mend
Frith, I really need to be walking as much as u do. Just been far to busy of late
Where's ampersand? Still on her hols?
Yesterday's pleaSures
1 had too much to drink on Saturday - kind of accidentallyluckily slept ok and woke up without thick head
2 Made chutney from the Greene toms still on bush
3 remembered that Saturday was NSD/NPD they are so rare I had to record it
4 picked up DS from DofE. I think he enjoyed it (was "alright" apparently, that's as good as it gets). He and his group rather fell on the lemon drizzle I took,
5 had a frustrating evening of trying to write my lecture in between cooking risotto, ringing dad, taking DD to her swimming teacher training (for £100 she is doing this course to be a qualified swimming teacher which, together with her life guarding, will help her to work thro uni and "between" acting jobs), speaking to OH, making stripped beds. Got enough done to get by - eventually. Found a fab fun website of law revision resources so can show them that.
Have a good days all. Single parents, intake my hat off to you - it's not easy is it?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hello. Thank you for all the job mentions. I'm still enjoying it but they totally over estimated the amount of staff required and its been quite disheartening seeing lots of nice people go, however being thankful that I'm being kept on as one of the main members of staff. I asked today that I be given plenty notice if I was to lose hours and was assured that would not happen. My main colleague, who I get on very well with , has also had her hours cut and she too is not happy with it but other than leaving what can we do? Just keep working hard , offering good service and people will come back! When we busy up then hours will increase and we will still be there to share them out! We haven't even been open 2 months yet.
Lets do some pleasures for today....
1. Glad I wasn't starting early this morning as I woke up at 6.30am....which was really 5.30am! Made pancakes for breakfast for kids, back to school today and the girls were their usual first day back prompt....this will not last!
2. Saw a bag in Salvos last week by Olga Berg, I liked it and googled Olga...she is a bag designer and they are usually a lot more expensive than $8.99! Went in this morning and now have a new bag paid for from my tips jar!
3. Bought 5kg of dirty potatoes for $2.99..... Could have washed ones for $3.99.... think I can manage to wash a bit of dirt off.
4. Home...cleaned bathrooms, hung a washing out and had a potter around, sat on my sofa, started a new book and then thought I'd better head to work!
5. Short 3 hour shift, came out to some sunshine....
Also came out to an attempted break in to my car, the drivers door was wide open . Nothing taken but then nothing of value to take! I went and reported it to the police station which was round the corner. After that a nice drive home! Grrrr to idiots that think its alright to break in/ steal other people's property.
6. Home ...with cake! So, me and DD2 cosied in on the sofa , ate our chocolate and hazelnut tart and watched Casualty.
7. Steak pie for dinner with mashed potatoes , cauliflower and carrots ...looking forward to it!
dd hope you get your new job settled today.
frith congratulations to your sister and your kitchen is lovely.
kittikins glad you're feeling better. Having the cold just stinks....I always feel , you know it's ' just' a cold but you always feel absolutely rotten for a few days.
DFV that's rotten news about your cards being stolen , again why do scumbags think they can use them, at least you got them all stopped.
chicken I love hearing your terrier tales....I just picture this terrier tearing around the park.
tealady and CCP you always make my mouth water with your foody pleasures.
everyone else I love reading our pleasures...it's the first thing I do in the morning as you've all usually posted by then...keep 'em coming!
Do have a lovely Monday ....I'm off to enjoy steak pie....part of the pleasure being all I had to do was peel the spuds ( and mash them) as I'd prepared the rest yesterday !0 -
BoP you really must be a bit more confident, no use putting yourself down all the time :rotfl:
DFV. Only way to make custard, with a pitchfork! Real earthy foods.
4 I must be looooooosing it. Hard work and no sway. Last nite, Ms BoPsie had all the high value letters, come in with a seven letterer. Was behind near the end and slams down quilted to go in from! Try as I mite, I laid my try, that got out on rue, to win by 2 on count back from her tiles. Cannot be doing with this as I normally win by such a margin, it would make headlines.
5 Pan de moan e ham in our house last night after brewing the lumpy custard, I spilled the milk over and it got burnt on. No coolness in our house, it has to be torched. Lucky Ms BoPsie has a dishwasher!
2 No dog rolls this week, just pure crab. Got real crunch in the claws. Keeps me ship shape and ready to please all and sundry. Just musing over what to do for Xmas lunch this year. May do Crab and go! Yes, Crab and Haddock fish cakes, in watercress sauce. Served with chips and mushy peas! No cold turkey for us. Will have BoP style (recipe available on 1st November) Xmas pud and cake. Hand rubbed by BoP. No mixers, no microwave!
1 You can sit on the sidelines and watch, or you can go over the line and play.
3 Now over six months TV Tax free and still do not miss any of it. Rugby highlights on itv player on Mondays. Football, as and when. Films. Ms BoPsie is watching the old classics now. All online. Watching the Road movies at the moment.. TV tax saved so far £74.35p.0 -
I can't believe I've left it so long between posts.
K'kins, hope you are well on the way on Recovery Road,
Mhags, X fingers the business continues to be busy, now that it looks as if you are secure.
Hoping for good news from you, DD but if not, at least you still have the exotic locations.
Thank you to all others, I so enjoy reading this thread.
A collection:
1. Dr C. is well. Well enough in fact, to ask for overtime at work, he is back in his old post now and much, much happier overall.
2. My massive stockpot, a bargain buy from Wilko's out for the first stews of the autumn. Yum, yum, yum.
3. Pampering, the OS bit being I was able to split my pack of hair colour by using a bowl to mix the colour. 50 mls of mix did my fine, chin length hair. It isn't quite as light as I'd hoped, being medium brown rather than a lighter shade as advertised, but I guess my hair has got darker with the years, apart from the odd grey.
4. Cycling over the weekend, the trike behaved and I had no high winds to halt progress.
A lovely conversation outside Wilko's with a lady who told me she is seriously considering buying a trike, having spoken to me previously. I so hope that she does.
I want to see trike riders fighting back against mobility scooters! They are everywhere in our town. I'd love to think that some of those riding them could manage on a trike, and the health benefits are significant.
The joy the trike brings me is immense, even when the gears and chain do slip and I get oily hands or gloves putting it back .
5. Being able to help a friend when she asked. Hoping that for once a good deed will go unpunished.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Good evening all !
VJsmum - I shall take that as a compliment Mrs.T:p;) Well done DD for earning and learning.
Mhagster - bar stewards . Glad that nothing was taken. Reminds me of something in one of John Simpsons books .His father left a posh box on the back seat of the car to tempt thieves but filled it with poo... yep you guessed it the box was stolen ... They got a bit more than they bargained for.
DFV - sorry to hear about your cards
Tealady - flippin' eck you are so organised ! I have said it before , I want to be like you when I grow up
5 for today
1. The smell of fresh bread in the BM wafting up the stairs at 5am . ........I was awake anyway as bitten to bu**ery on my knee , so scratched it to pieces and it has been leaking all day
2. Ex line manager lost the plot at work and started screaming at colleague and I. Colleague went off crying - I said something firmly back. They apologised to me later on and another colleague said ex manager was acting like a 5 year old. So it continues..
3. Terrier was pleased to see me when I got home with her big Basil Brush grin . Boom Boom.
4. Made beef in black bean for tea.
5.OH cleared the garden yesterday and it looks huge !
Have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening all, and I apologise for snuffling at you: I woke up this morning shivering and with a throat which felt like I'd swallowed broken glass, and by lunchtime it had turned into a cold.
1) HM watercress soup for lunch - it's not fantastically tasty but was warm, soothing to my sore throat, and full of vitamin C.
2) Paid in the surveyor's cheque: once it's cleared I'll buy myself a new tool store, to take the place of the shed which was removed.
3) Cheese, ham and tomato on toast for tea, as I couldn't face cooking a proper meal.
4) Lots of free books on my kindle so, if this cold turns out to be a bad one (and fingers crossed it doesn't), I won't be bored.
Hugs to everyone else feeling down, under the weather, or otherwise in need of a hug!Back after a very long break!0 -
Kittikins - very glad to hear you're feeling better!
Frith - all this healthy walking! Congratulations.
VJsmum - chortling at DofE feedback & the amazing disappearing lemon drizzle cake.
mhagster - vehement hopes the business picks up to where everyone wants it to be & atta girl on the Olga Berg bag! Loud boo hiss to whomever has the temerity to mess with your car.
BoP - a pitchfork - of *course*, will set youngling to work forthwith. No bananas until there's a proper lumpy custard to go with. Ms.BoPsie winning?! Dear Gods, man, get the snorkers down you & recover your form!
Mcculloch - Dr.C back in the groove? Hurray! Well done both of you!
Chickenopolis - as soon as the cards were stopped, I began to relax. Now I'm waiting for replacements, plenty of NSDs for me! Your ex manager sounds in need either of a leash, a hug, or 10 minutes on the naughty step. Milk, cookies & naptime to be enforced, I'd suggest?!
OS Pleasures
Waved to the tailor (just before he set shears to fabric!)
Husband had made the bolognese, I just cooked the spaghetti & served it all - delicious & youngest so happy (has been pleading for Days!)
Lovely expression on son's face when I read an email aloud & he realised he Does have Scouts tonight...
Child brought bottle of washing up liquid from "larder". (Father had declined as "they're more wriggly than I am"...!)
Little chilli pepper still growing!
Son trying to spin on my wheel. Lovely to hear him coming up against the same problems I do, which suggests it may be the wheel. (Or that we're equally dire. which is entirely possible.)
Husband appears to have subdued it to compliance. I can't.
Big hugs to all those who need them!0
