Happy Birthday :j DFV. Re picnic areas that's a super idea, they should do it here rather than complain that the turbines are unsightly. Nonsense, far less unsightly the results of Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi. Sorry, just having one of my 'soap box' moments :o.
VJsmum yummy eateries, safe journeys and happy landings
Frith belated Happy Birthday wishes to Teenage Son, hope he had a super time and enjoyed the hm burgers :j

    1. Couldn't work out why the hose was playing up last night, thought it might have a kink in it so shook it all out but still only watering intermittently - then saw my friend standing at the kitchen sink. Why it was so funny I'll never know but set me giggling for ages :D
    2. My friend brought her dog's beds with them, it's amusing us to watch her two, my dog and cat all playing musical beds and trying each other's out. And all good tempered, not a growl among them
    3. Out for lunch with friends and my visitor, all in the same fellowship so all got on like they've known each other for ever
    4. Had my first ever taste of lemon and coriander humus. Hmm, not for me but I like to try new things otherwise how will I know what I'm missing out on!
    5. Beautiful yellow thing warm and bright all day

    Sweet dreams :)

CCP - we were talking about the Birmingham Christmas market earlier! We go on the train every year. For no particular reason, we always go on a weekday evening, after school. It looks good in the dark!

Very tired now but here are my pleasures for today.

    1) Good sleep. Until I was woken by bigger son at 6.50 reminding me it is his birthday! Spent the day saying "Ooo, 11.28 - you were 1 minutes old 13 years ago" etc.

    2) Bigger son had some lovely presents. Meccano from my school friend, t shirts and a book from my sister. I bought him a Swiss "Champ" penknife with lots of different gadgets.

    3) Porridge for breakfast.

    4) Checked all the animals at mum and dad's early on. Pulled the hen pens round to watch them jumping about when they realised they were on a new bit of grass! Except Mrs Grumpy who managed to wedge herself between the frame of her run and her nest box as I moved it.

    5) Took brother's dog for a walk.

    6) Tomato soup and homemade bread for lunch.

    7) Walk in the forest in the afternoon to make a "house" out of twigs and test the penknife out.

    8) Birthday tea at my sister and brother in law's! Brother in law had not made the chilli burgers as he is a bit under the weather so we had massive normal burgers and HM chips. I took cake and jelly and sister had some cakes that were "going spare" after a wedding she went to last night. My school friend went too so got to see my sister's new house.

    9) Played Cluedo which was an interactive DVD version. If you know it, there are parts where you ask the next player "Do you have Miss Scarlet, the dining room and the candlestick?" so if someone does they show you the card. Everyone else shuts their eyes so they don't see it accidentally. So smaller son said "Do you have X, Y and Z?" then everyone shut their eyes. I held out the card and he had his eyes shut too - it could have been a long game!

    10) Back to mum and dad's at 9.30 and it was pitch black. Threw some corn in the general direction of the hens, the dog went barking and howling off up the valley (did come back eventually), stumbled around shutting the door of the goose pen and the ferrets did everything in their power to escape when I fed them. Luckily they are tame enough that you can pick them up and plonk them back in - they're a bit flexible, though!

Bed in a minute with some hot chocolate and Baileys, the Archers and maybe a hwb.

Healthy eating starts in earnest tomorrow. The lose 2 stones new year's resolution is the only resolution I haven't managed (or indeed, started). And I'm not going to my sister's wedding looking twice as wide as everyone else in my family!

Hello from stormy Melbourne! Blowing a hooly outside ....but I'm inside so that's okay!

Another early morning rise.....I swear I wake earlier each morning. Was 4.45am today. Think I was just up before the birds were!

Phoned OH, phoned a friend who had messaged me through the night with some sad news . So thinking and praying for her family.

Went to work, good quick drive there. Busy shift and finished a bit earlier than usual. Good , quick drive home.

Have done hee- haw since I got home! I did an ironing before going to work and am still reasonably tidy so not much to do than surf the net!

For breakfast I had ( made by a lovely young chef) poached duck egg with new season asparagus , toast , rocket and pecorino cheese.....schlurp!! Was delicious.....I'd asked for avocado on toast but he actually pleaded with me to have this.....oh! Okay then! Love my work :)

    Have a fabby day :)

    Evening

Mhagster - Sorry to hear the news of your FIL (((Hugs))) but lovely to hear you so happy in your new job.
Skint - Well done to your DS on his driving test
Dig for Victory - Happy Belated Birthday Wishes :bdaycake:
Frith - Sounds like your DS had a great birthday and hope smaller DS settles in well at new school
DD - Well done on your promotion
Kittikins - Lovely to hear you enjoying uni after all the stress of the last few months

    Recent pleasures,
    1. Lots of home cooking with nothing going to waste. Made a batch of apple and plum mix to have with porridge, yummy also made some into small pies with left over pastry. HM tomato and red wine sauce with a few wrinkly tomatoes and a bit of left over wine. These things make me happy.
    2. DD getting some more shifts in the office I work in so she has money coming in hopefully until at least Christmas
    3. Have arranged a family meal out with my parents, brothers, SIL and niece just a few days before DD's birthday. I have to be in the North East for work for a few days so OH and DD are going to meet me there. I have managed to find a really nice restaurant that does a lunchtime special for a really good price. Definetly some North / South divide going on with the pricing :D
    4. Opened my sealed tin that the excess grocery money goes in and there was nearly £300 in :money:, this has helped pay for the present we have bought for DD birthday.
    5. Approved food order arrived today, I was very restrained in my ordering but ordered things that we use most days plus a couple of treats :D
    6. Came in under budget on grocery spend even though I bought lots of things for a Rainbow fun day I am helping with in a couple of weeks. The theme is Alice in Wonderland and I am on biscuit decorating duty so will be making these with 100 rainbows

hugs to all who need them
  • kittikins - small cake, small sons, big appetites. Sorry! <Hearty chunk of Virtual Cake> Brownie memories are formidable.
DD - I thought so - chop ginger, add whatevers, sugar, water, boil then simmer. Syrups rather than cordials as I didn't have cream of tartar. Atta girl DD1! Always good to feed the external examiner thoroughly...
sparrer - isn't it great when dogs exercise themselves?!
Frith - covet the Champ knife - it's a corker & I hope you both enjoyed making the 'house'. Birthday with HM burgers & "going spare" wedding cakes brilliant!
mhagster - have googled blowing a hooly as scot hooly means moderate! Cor. A chef pleading with you into trying his new dishes...
muser1 - it *is* good, isn't it. Counting your blessings sounds a bit virtuous, but OS pleasures are just fun!
Chickenopolis - 13p off a litre AND presents?! Awed!

Tealady - come on North & have much more fun for your money! Over £300 in selaed tin?! Congratulations!

    OS Pleasures
    "

I want a bathrobe. A Darth Vader bathrobe." Hm, am I up to this sewing challenge, or can I reasonably plead he was half asleep at the time?!

Despite driving to work in the dark, yellow stuff!

Dropped son off at Explorers (clutching his pirate kit) & heard the cheers as another Explorer rolled in (with his uniform in a bag) - and of course they let him wonder for a while...

Strained & bottled two sorts of ginger syrup - both have zing, but one has pep as well...

Traded the vouchers I get from Givaudan for three really smashing glass "sweetie jars" at House of Fraser. They look credible as sweetie jars (short, medium & tall sizes, £3.50 - £5 each) and could lend a credible air of shabby chic to a dressing table. Lovely heavy lids & real glass. Will be fun figuring what to put in them for people!
  • Chicken - thankyou x I'm finding I really enjoy somewhere to put down everything the fairy does! And I can show my mum all the things I've been up to! Poor old fairy, no wonder she needs an afternoon nap!;)
DFV - thanks so much for the recipes x I'll give them a go when the worksurface is cleared of tomatoes and grapes!!
    1. 7 pints of tomato pasta sauce. 5 in the freezer and 2 in the fridge for meals this week.
    2. 8 pints of grape juice dripping through muslin ready to be bottled tomorrow...I want a fruit press but they're too expensive..so I've got weights on a plate instead!!
    3. weekend of childlessness ;) and I was nice to my ex and gave him apples!
    4. Kebabs and salad for tea yum!
    5. Cheese and potato pie for lunch (no wonder my waistline is rounded!)
    6. Apple leather that even OH likes..'I could resole my shoes with this...its quite nice' :D
Happy joy and love to all xx and apples anyone??

Aaaah Tealady, I did a Mad Hatter's tea party with my *sob* Rainbows as well (*sob* because I'm not a Bow anymore due to PGCE, maybe in a year or so's time I'll be able to get back to it....). Are your girls doing the Alice in Wonderland badge? My lot loved it, and we even got to play the Brucie 'higher, lower' game with a huge pack of cards :)

    1. Got to uni super-early in the vague hope that I'd do some yukky work...but thankfully a friend joined me, we both attempted to do the yukky work together but ended up nattering :)

    2. Treated myself to a Frappuccino at breaktime, slurp!

    3. Surprised my lunchtime chums by sitting in a different place today! I'm such a trendsetter :)

    4. Fab CS Lewis talk this evening. I was in two minds whether to go as I was feeling a bit pants after admitting to a small group I'm doing a presentation with on Thursday that I feel totally out of my depth with the topic. They were all lovely about it, but..... Anyway, spending an hour chatting about The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Tom's Midnight Garden and the Muppets certainly chilled me out and put a smile back on my face :)

    5. My 'new friend' aka DD's Brownie chum's mum has invited me over for a cuppa any evening during Brownies :)

    6. Fabulous English lesson, lots of nattering about books - bliss!
