VJsmum - I have only seen one video (don't know if there are more) where the camera was strapped to one of the scooters and they did a circuit of the campsite!
Ampersand - wheelie bin wheels make marvellous wheels for go karts....0 -
Frith - I can never read The Piper at the Gates of Dawn chapter without copious tears. Still know lumps 'by heart', about which phrase George Steiner gave a wonderful lecture, but he didn't like me afterwards when I questioned him in relation to Milan Kundera. Some notion of this philosophic stream is present here:

Shall I denude the wheelies for sons of Frith?
Hmm, more intriguing dreams....
David Sedaris is on again now - r4x - and it's even better 2nd time round. Just ignore the hideous, appalling link person. Unintelligent oick without wit or talent. Oh, Bill Bailey's on now ' Hey Hey, We're the Monks'....promising title and I love Bill Bailey.
vjm - yes I know. Doing it anyway. 2nd boil wash for same load just begun. Oh, perhaps I'd better empty the trailer o/n, despite tarp.
Notice how I've not mentioned Mr Murray, had gut feeling the other day. At least I can now wholeheartedly support my first racquety love, Rafa.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Good grief, Frith - just googled and look:
'In The Enchanted Places, Milne's son Christopher says of The Wind in the Willows:
A book that we all greatly loved and admired and read aloud or alone, over and over and over: The Wind in the Willows. This book is, in a way, two separate books put into one. There are, on the one hand, those chapters concerned with the adventures of Toad; and on the other hand there are those chapters that explore human emotions – the emotions of fear, nostalgia, awe, wanderlust. My mother was drawn to the second group, of which “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” was her favourite, read to me again and again with always, towards the end, the catch in the voice and the long pause to find her handkerchief and blow her nose. My father, on his side, was so captivated by the first group that he turned these chapters into the children's play, Toad of Toad Hall. In this play one emotion only is allowed to creep in: nostalgia.'

The wanderlust observation hits me right in the solar plexus, along with a deep aching longing that Horatio Clare somehow transmutes in his stunning writing. There's more than a touch of Gerard Manley Hopkins kinship too, queer bedfellows as they become altogether.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

First time posting here in the OS boards but here goes:
1. Sorting out old paperwork ready for shredding.
2. Making an inventory of what food is in the house.
3. Cycling 4 miles with my 11 year old daughter to collect a school bag that we reserved at Argos earlier in the day for my 5 year son, ready for school tomorrow.
4. Took a huge amount of rubbish to local recycling centre.YNAB is my new best friend.0 -
Welcome chrisfreelander
DD well done! (re Amelie, she's my oldest great niece, now 8 years old)
chicken I was sorry to hear about your Aunt's dog
1. went to mat alan to get a top for the weekend, ended up with 4, all in the sales
2. This one is really strange, but it works - mentioned to the hairdresser on Wednesday that the last hair dye seemed to give my fair hair a 'greenish' tinge, she suggested I put ketchup on it dry, comb through and wash off after half an hour. It works! I'll definitely remember that one, even if it did smell a bit strong
3. Postie brought me a healthy cheque for doing a survey
4. Friend in Yorkshire phoned, she and her two miniature Schnauzers are coming to say in a couple of weeks
5. House all clean, laundry/ironing done, just waiting for kitchen floor to dry so the animals can go out one last time, then up early to spend the weekend in Hayling Island.
Have a good weekend, stay sunny whatever the weather0 -

Friday tea time...been such a cool, damp and rather dismal day but hurrah! It was my day off! And double hurrah! OH had a day off too.
Thursday pleasures:
I had nettle tagliatelle for lunch, very tasty!
Quick chat with friend in the morning .
Home and had a bath watching Holby and then GBBO
Went a - visiting, went to see my friend and had such a lovely catch up with her....I had so much to tell her since I last saw her.
She gave me 5 big tubs of different pastas as they are not eating wheat.
Today , I woke up at the ridiculously early time of 4.30am but rather than lie awake I got up and phoned 2 friends back home, oh wise one and the one I speak to every week. Nice to catch up on their news.
Went out for brunch with OH
Did our grocery shop which I paid cash for with last weeks wages.
Popped in to old work to say hello....felt a bit strange, a bit familiar, absolutely the right thing to have stopped working there, nice to see old colleagues and old customers but again absolutely the right thing to have moved on.
Bought cinema tickets which are much cheaper than buying them at the cinema.....no staff discount anymore though.
Said hello to the ducks, moorhens and water hens....nice to see them!
Picked DD2 up at school to have some lunch with her, she has her school production on this week so daytime performances and evening ones too, so she had a bit of a break in between.
Had a wee snooze as we are off out tonight ( 2 nights in a row going out for me...oh my!) to see the show.
I'm now going to iron all the damp clothes that have hung forlornly on the washing line all day....not even a breeze to coerce them into drying. Will need to put the heating for an hour to help them dry.
It's our general election here tomorrow and will be glad when the political shenanigans are over! We are not entitled to vote and I'm quite glad of that as it all seems rather farcical! Australian citizens legally have to vote or they are fined and elections are always on a Saturday.
Have a lovely day....I'll be sitting in a freezing school hall....already planning to change into some winter woollies!0 -
Morning
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Another day out on site so NSD as lunch was on expenses
2. Nice easy site visit and was home early so got to sit in the garden in the sunshine with and ice cream. Even though easy site visit when read my report it looks like we worked very hard
3. Meal plan done for next week using up freezer supplies as would like to get both freezers defrosted. Should make the shopping cheap this week.
4. Yummy dinner of Piri Piri turkey with veg rice and salad
5. Enjoying the lovely sunshine
Hugs to all who need them0
