    Yay, Ampersand's back :T

DD my OH is off to Prague in a coupla weeks - any recommendations for restaurants? I went there myself several years ago, it's lovely. The students were tram surfing - very funny!
    Hello Skader!

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. Caravan cleaned and put away for winter :( the pleasure being that it is done and we usually delay it, but can't see us going anywhere else this year.
    2. Bacon and egg for brekkie, known as Begg in our house
    3. Met a friend to go for a walkies on Cannock Chase. His dog went nuts when it saw OH at the railway station where they met us. I think she knew his presence meant "Walkies". The dog (a cocker spaniel) was like having a hyperactive toddler but great comedy value. Zooming off, bounding back, chasing swallows, disappearing and then reappearing somewhere totally unexpected.
    4. We were walking along and then suddenly I saw what I thought was a carving of a stag, but then it blinked :) we stood for a full minute or more watching it, outlined in the lowering sun and it was just watching us before it turned and gracefully jumped away. Astonishing sight!
    5. Blueberries!! loads of them! we were eating them by the handful - I reckon between the three of us we ate about £10 worth in supermarket prices. So tempted to go back with containers today - sadly just too much to do.
A cheeky 6 - DD cooked dinner so we went to the pub on the way home. She made toad in the hole and lemon meringue pie. Friend said LMP was his favourite and he hadn't had it for over 10 years! Ate it with relish (no, not real relish - that would be minging!)

Another day of tidying and cleaning - nearly done. One more holiday day left for DS and 2 for DD. :(:(

It's lovely to see you back, ampersand. :)

    1) LO BBQ'd sausages in a sandwich for brunch.

    2) NSD and NPD.

    3) Another HG tomato is showing the tiniest signs of turning red. :j

    4) A lazy sort of afternoon watching sport - showjumping, then football, then tennis. :)

    5) Planning on using up various odds and ends of veg for dinner tonight - kale, butternut squash and some French beans cooked with the end of a bit of chorizo, with some LO cooked pasta and a RTC chicken kiev.
Back after a very long break!
  • Good evening all !

VJsmum - lovely post . Nice and outdoorsy

    5 for today

    1. Dipped hair , using half a box as per usual Sparrer ;)

    2. OH did the food shopping and paid for it:eek: a rare thing..

3.Family down from the big smoke. DSis bought down a huge box of biscuits - lots of varieties in individual packets.Like ones you get when on training courses . Got a fair few of those now, may take some in to work.. but then again.

    4. Not that hungry so had mushroom and courgette fried rice for tea.

    5. Took terrier out - feeling very much like Autumn.A nip in the air. Good - my favourite along with Spring that is .

Have a good evening all !
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

    Evening

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Seeing Ampersand's post
    2. Up early again so got cooking done for week - made cup cakes, tomato soup, roasted a chicken and a small gammon and cooked some apples with ground almonds to use in porridge.
    3. Washing done and dried on the line
    4. Decided to go to Kingston with DD and there was a carnival on, really good atmosphere and some geat music.
    5. Gave a bowl of tomatoes to neighbour as we are all tomatoed out here. Freezer is full of tomato based sauces and fridge is full of tomato soup.
    6. Picked up a couple of free samples in L'Octiane to try, thanks to this site :money:

Hugs to all who need them
  • 1. Didn't have to get out of bed early.
    2. DH and I did some tidying of the garden/yard and I sowed some salad leaves, spinach and carrots (a bit late for those but only baby carrots hoped for).
    3. Picked some radishes from garden, put some in a stir fry; really nice.
    4. Had some stewed wild plums with cream; picked by friend ("foraged" if you don't mind me going all Country Living magazine:p)
    5. Made a list of everything in freezer (I cross things off as I go but eventually the list is unreadable) so I could make a list for tomorrow's shopping. It's always a pleasure noting all the results of batch cooking and bargain hunting!

Taken aback by return Hello's - thankyou all so much:-)
    Feels warmy and lovely.

    1. Repeat Pleasure: listening to Spooky Men's 'Sweetest Kick' and Tim's 'Drowned' alternately looping as I write. Can't get enough of this atm. Fine lyrics.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXizyDVm9ok
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ne9eruxSYg

    2. Andy's just done v. nicely in NY, to which I'm also listening, multi-tasking woman that I am. So taxing.

    3. Out early to hunt and gather - 2 within 20 miles - fingers crossed on a few bits. Vastly ugly, ugly and vast Carsten Tonnieshof piece, but early 60's. HUGE handled vessel, with wrythen casting, earthtone matte eruptions and twists. Should do@Spits - hope so. Also - trolley: Behave Yourself, glass alert - 5 old red/black/gold glass pub signs, also large. LADIES, GENTLEMEN, SALOON, BAR, PRIVATE. Bought from R. who, like me, fears transporting them too often. A blanket and a separate box, me thinks.

    4. '&!!!' said someone. Haven't seen J for...what, since R. was alive? late 90's?
Used to meet at night auctions in the Fens, Tilney St Lawrence et al. So much catching up. Twin daughters are suddenly 23 and 27, both having mental health careers from Uni, one with Mencap. Lovely to hear news of other lives, times.

    5. '&!!!' said someone...and there was M and husband, now telly regular. Good grief! Who was this alongside? Bumpette, as last seen in Ely W8rs is now 12, tall, leggy, stunning and born! While D does his stuff , M has just changed schools[Music teacher]and loves being further over in Fens, feather in her cap to be at this particular place.

    6. '&!!!'...said F. We'd JUST renewed long-since acquaintance last week. I'd wondered if he was still alive. Must be nearly 80 now, but today was one of those days and we all kept bumping into each other, with plenty of 'all the usual suspects' warmth and laughter and discussion of our odd life and tricky times. Always plenty of stories in this great game.

    7. Late call en route back via w8rs, good free cappu, but STILL NO LITTLE BICCIES!...'Disgraceful!' suitably expressed:-) Actually had dark Hershey in bag, emergency supply[20 for £1 at Boot no. 2. was my sort of price]. V. nice combi as I read all the proper papers for all Seamus Heaney anything. Have all his work, have gathered it up since first known, keep various edns in car. Not really a pleasure onto latter - another loss - but memories of Cllff Morgan easily resurfacing. In another life, paths crossed at times - a delightful, beautiful man, rich charm, and I am ever one for voices...

    8. Therefore made point of timing final leg part-way stop to listen to r4's special tribute: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b039bg5k.
Setting deliberately chosen, only recently found this double cut across country and it suits me well. I can pull in atop an ancient worked earth slope, facing west as sun lowers, land falling away from me, inverted saucer. A good hefty hawthorn hedge thickly stretches left, far, far, and hares run out, crouch, rise, leap, play. I love them. Trees clump distantly. Birds, berries, progress in now harrowed field, combined last week. I use separate radio when parked thus. Green tea in Thermos. Sorted out a quirky retro buy, while awaiting programme: 'They're Off!' - 1975 horse-racing game with 2 parallel groove Ronco discs, commentator Noel Whitcomb+p/w. All present and correct. On verra.
    ########
    9. Resuming after pleasant supper, eaten looking out back in near darkness, listening to little hedgehog snuffling around boldly a few metres away. Sort of hotpot thing, with many extra fresh tomatoes.

    10. Hope Sloane Stephens can overcome Serena.

New coalface demain bop? It's a grand thing for you, well done again, really and truly. Tigger adapts? Did like depiction of brekkie tempters too strong.

Happy night to all, even if work dims the morrow.
    #######
Apologies skader and piecemeal - I'd thought how much I liked your posts, Welcomed you in my head, and that's where it stayed.

chicken - I still have the dress.

Quick pleasures for today, am very tired.

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Cooked belly pork for lunch. Took 3+ hours. Pleasure was I can confirm that we all absolutely detest belly pork so won't have to go through that again!

    3) Picked lots of blackberries. Enough for 3 freezer bags and a bowl for MrN.

    4) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    5) My mum had made some cakes so we had some of those.

    6) Played a quick game of football and went for a walk to look at the sunset.

    7) Bigger son cleaned the bath and sink and smaller son cleaned the stairs.

That's about it for today. Bed and Archers time. Pondering whether to get a hot water bottle.

Not been noting names but all good, though food is saltier than i'm used to so taste before adding more salt! Also tell him to keep some room for the street vendors' fare - chimney cakes, squirly potato on a stick, crepes, hot dogs... I'm afraid to get on the scales when i get home!
frith your experience of pork belly made me laught - it's one of the traditionals here so i had it yesterday. More fat than meat.
    Welcome back ampers
Seem to have lost track of the days totally, so here's some for the last 2 days
    1) saturday went with dd1 and ds to concert by mozart chamber orchestra in the munipal house - gorgeous art deco. i treated the 3 of us to a box 2400kc which is just over £80. but hey what other capital city could you have a box with world class music? Havent seen 4 seasons live before. The interation between the lead and the soloist was brill. The programme had bach, mozart, vivaldi, handel and of course dvorak and smetna.
    2) earlier in the day ds had wanted to go to the lennon wall. That was when we had lunch in the john lennon pub where we eschewed the english menu. Dd2 had goulash soup in a bread bowl.
    3) bit chillier yesterday, glad i had my wrap with me. Though i hear the heating's back on in scotland! Nice walk round town then mucha and dali exhibition with xoh (whose leg is recovering though still twinges) dd1 (aged 21) and ds (18) the sweet lady let us buy a family ticket rofl) i love mucha though the children preferred the dali which was also very good. Then hotdogs in the main square for lunch
    4) the children went to the ice bar. xoh and i watched a midsomer we hadnt seen before then since it was our turn to do supper bought pizza and salad
    5) out to a jazz bar but couldnt find it :-( so after very nice after dark wander round the town the others went home and ds andi had a very pleasant evening in the bar next to the appartment. Under a tenner for 4 beers for him and 3 glasses red wine for me! Smoky though as smoking still allowed in public places.
Last day today then back to little blighty and work mayhem. Students arrive 16th but i have to totally rethink induction week due to fellow tutor leaving with paid leave for notice (how do people manage that?!) just before i came away. eek

Monday tea time...so I need to go and make something for tea! Need inspiration!

    Work was good
Lunch was great...finally got my nettle and lentil soup! Someone asked what nettles were...hmmmm...like a wildflower! Wasn't sure if they would eat weeds!
One of my old customers came in for lunch so had a catch up with her.
    Free ciabatta !
Lovely drive home...and no parking ticket! The car park I was using has suddenly closed so I'm chancing my arm parking in a 3 hour zone!
Just watched Casualty with DD2 and we sang the theme tune together....dodododododododododododododododododododododododododododo

    Have a lovely Monday

Eta ampersand when I was a lass I did Seamus Heaney's ' Mid Term Break' for my 'o ' grade English.

Just doing some quick book research using the AddALL Used and Out of Print Books site.
I like the quotes that head the page.
    Just now from GB Shaw:
'A book in the hand is worth two in the Library'.
    I like that.

Kittikins and dd back in school? AND worry-free at last?
    #######
.....but just read what you have to face as soon as you're back, dd. You'll do it; we all know you'll manage, but understand the added pressure is immediate. 'Could do better' to Those in Authority?
Enjoy remaining Polish time to the full - sounds replete so far.
