Been AWOL as work busy-ish and 'Dr Christian' having a tough time atm, all things must pass. This will too.
I often wondered how DD and DS managed to lose so many sets of keys, but your post made me boil, Frith. Yargh!
However, prompted to post by some good things.
1. Rediscovered ISAHAC thanks to this thread and having radio iPlayer on the new-ish You View Box. Happy, happy listening.
I listened to this in the 90s, along with Home Truths and much of Radio 4. I found myself shouting at Today on R4 once too often, so stopped, changed stations and re-discovered Mark and Lard, (who were on Radio 1 at the time, before they were fired.)
They are now both on 6Music, Mark Radcliffe with Stuart Maconie and 'Lard' back to being Marc Riley.
In the 70s/80s Forces radio used to broadcast Round The Horne, what a treat that was.
2. Long awaited visit of beloveds, DD, DGC and Springers. Beautiful Beth now joined by wonderful Walter Sheldon, 10 weeks, known as Walter.
He is registered as "Walter Sheldon " at vets to placate DGC who are fans of The Big Bang Theory.
Son in law had mused on 'Walter' as a name, and DD gave it a big thumbs up. It was the name of her grandfather, who died a year before she was born. Ex OH's father, but he more or less disowned his family on the split, I stayed in touch.
FiL Walter's love for DD - and DS, later, was passed on via his lovely brother, Uncle Alex. DGS has Alex as a middle name.
Above, Walter, asleep . Hard to get a pic of an awake Walter ,he never stopped .
Beth doesn't like other dogs much at all, but has tolerated Walter remarkably well, considering.
DD caught Beth at the top of the stairs yesterday doing a play-bow to Walter to encourage him to climb the stairs. Did she want to get him into trouble I wonder by getting him off limits? Signs that they will perhaps eventually get on well.
However Beth nicked his half eaten puppy chew this morning, having bolted hers.He adores her and follows her round everywhere.
3. Ampersand, I loved the Spooky Men's Chorale,. Just as I clicked on the link, a promotional text came through on the mobile, 'Get 2 for 1 tickets to see Tim Minchin (and others) in Newcastle '. I laughed. It was a very Ampersand thing to happen.
4. Friend popped round to see me and timed visit to meet family. Luckily she loves children and dogs. She is fantastic with young people and DGC chatted away happily to her, their replies providing insights for me too.
5. DGC making lunch with me, shared by us all. Precious time together.
6. Great music at live music club, it was a charity fundraising night. £800+ raised for cancer charities.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
1. After a drizzly morning the sun came out and a load of washing got dry.
2.Macaroni cheese with bacon and tomatoes for dinner.
3. Sweetpeas still flowering, I picked more today - they smell wonderful.
4. Four loaves baked and safely in the freezer.

POETS Day early tomorrow. So grate news from the nest coming up.
DD so close to a dunk by Neptune, yet, just like Luton, so far!
PK Cure for cold. Fire water gal, and honey
Skintos Bra. What is a bra?
& My tools are in my pocket! I wear the trousers. If you want the tools, you need to ...0 -
1. mcculloch - I'm so happy you've taken to Spooky Men! . Don't they make a wonderful sound?and all done with much drôlerie, real wit and humour. Post-concert report will follow. Any chance of you and/or DS making it to a concert or Sing Like a Bloke gig? And to think you are offered 2for1 to worship at the altar of Lord Minchin of Tim!!! Well, I did go to Glasgow c.18mths ago to see him. Newcastle's nearer....on verra. I also have complete aunty beeb series of Round the Horne, loved Home Truths, too. Can't stand Today, after thatcher years of becoming dangerous-to-health angry. Hence enjoyment of r4x Crime&Thrillers Hour around that time. Do try the Mrs Bradleys - feel you'll enjoy these. And the Delves Report was back on this morning too - excellent.
Isn't Walter wonderful?
2.ccp - a beautiful new retro-style sky blue and cream Citroen, name of Muriel, departed w8rs as I arrived. Through its sunroof, a stunning cascading parasol of a yellow standard rose in full flowering glory. Also, isn't it lovely when their receipts do this?:)
3. 2 steps forward, 1 step back: access to new storage, for which I've been needily waiting 6-7 weeks, is now delayed further. I'd left an 'OK to begin tmrw?' check-up msg yesterday. Owner now finds departing lessee has done nothing...wants another month.:mad::mad: Had I known this, I would have gone straight to France early/mid-June. Now I face, again, cack weather for workroom build, already much delayed.
4. chicken - I'm sorry I laughed at your no.1....:rotfl:
5. Knew bop would want to show his engineering ignorance. Lady Thwack is a correction, an instruction and a reward. Good things come in 3's. Nest is best this w/e, wethinks.
6. H-g peas formed braisey bed for w8rs rtc smoky marinated bbq rack of organic pork ribs. I bought both - ludicrous pennies, 41p and 47p. Each will do 3 meals. Absolutely gorgeous, cutlery-free. Fine Dining, not! Nul points for etiquette. 11 out of 10 for gnawing. Yumyumyumyumyum.
7. 3 fine bits of news - re: Doreen Lawrence, University Hospital Lewisham, J K Rowling. A tiny smidgeon of justice against so much.
STILL NO KEYS.
Joy in store demain - big yellow thing, temp. mid-30's :j:j:j
-and vjm's next bulletin.
pk - whisky with orange juice squeezed in.
frith - I am The Wireless woman in other ways too. Can't stand the things at best of times.
dd- just keep on 'ich bin'-ing and you will be, in new ways.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Mcculloch- Walter's lovely!
DD- I did wonder just how good that cake was!!
Quick pleasures for today.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went swimming with my brother.
3) Cup of tea at mum and dad's.
4) Painting! Have done the landing, stairs and glossed the 3 door frames off the stairs and the skirting boards. Still need to put the bookcase back on the landing so I can get into bed!
5) Cheaty ready meal for dinner.
6) After tonight, 1 more sleep til sons come home! Think I will go to Hereford tomorrow as a treat.0 -
Morning, the abbey bell tells me it is 8 o clock - as it told me it was 5 6 and 7 o'clock. I thought I had stopped "hearing" it, but not this morning
Ampersand, yes Doreen Lawrence and JK Rowling, 2 incredibly inspirational women. I so identified with JK when she was speaking about paying and tax (tho obviously hers is in a different league). Without benefits and government help mine and my parents lives would have been so different. I never moan about paying tax - but I do sometimes moan about how it's spent
Walter Sheldon - so cute
DD - Singapore, eh? North or south of equator, I've heard it is f a b u l I c I o u s:D
Chicken - frogs legs were in the lunch menu the other day. I don't mind them but there ain't a lot on them is there?
Oh and we went to Spain as Le Train Jaune went within a km of the Spanish border, and with three hours to kill it was rude not to.
Yesterday's pleasures
1 the landlord of this gite lives downstairs and is being a bit of an ar$€. All nicey nice one minute, then rather controlling the next, switching off the wifi, coming up to check on us under the pretext of offering something. The pleasure is that I have his measure (ooh poetry),, and am finding it amusing as it isn't that bad, just rather pathetic. Honestly, if you don't want a family in, don't have a 6 berthed house with wifi as it is an instant attraction for teenagers.
2 had a lazy morning "chez nous" doing a couple of chores (rinsing out my smalls seems to have annoyed him) while kids lazed abed. OH went walking to next town where he met us our bus and we went To an Abbey perched high on a mountain.
3 had lunch in a cafe with a fab view over the mountains, this time a croque Monsieur. Washed down with a half litre of white between me and oH
4 walked up to the abbey, which was stunningly located (if I had the first idea how to post pictures I would show you). Didn't bother to go round but had ice cream in the sunshine and with the view. DD had a complete hissy fit walking up there, we haven't had one of those for ages
5 two nuns in a panda (fiat type). I don't know why I am so amused by this, I just am. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere :rotfl:
6. Kids stayed at abbey and caught bus down to pool, OH and I walked. We thought it would be a climb up to a ridge, then a walk along the ridge and then down. No chance, we scrambled up, at times we were using ropes to get up the rocks and along 2 - 3 inch ledges with sheer drops, we saw a snake, we climbed over boulders, ending with a scramble down and a walk through the forest. It was fabif we'd known what it was like, we'd never have done it but we're so glad we did. Stunning
7 open air pool, what a relief. And chips - think I needed the salt
8 lovely meal back au maison, roast pork cooked by OH
Another blue sky and warm sunshine, we ae off suitcase shopping. Oh and swimsuit shopping, as we discovered mine is virtually see through in the derrière.
Bon journee tout Le mondeI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Oohlala vjsmum get yourself a new maillot de Bain tout suite!
See through ain't a good look!!
Well it's Thursday evening, almost 6pm and hanging on to a bit of daylight still. I've been a lady of leisure for a whole week now and although I have enjoyed the rest I am ready to go back in to the world of the working!
Yesterday's pleasures:
Not sure if it could be classed as a pleasure but had to take DD1 to school at 3.30am for a school trip! She arrived safely and having fun.
I walked back uphill to medical centre for some blood tests and walked back again, beautiful morningif a bit chilly as it was still early.
Popped into next town in my car and only bought what I had to buy.
Paid for half a tank of petrol...still very expensive just now and I don't need a full tank at the moment.
Came home and pottered....I'm getting very good at pottering.
Thought and thought about carbohydrates all blooming day and did not succumb.....not even when I visited my friend and she had nice nibbles out!
Had a nice evening of catching up on the gossip from old work......whilst I was reversing out our driveway to go to hers something landed on the roof...a blooming possum!
Today I had to get an early train into city, so stooood squaaaashed with all the other commuters all the way into city.
I went to cathedral and had a chat and lit a candle.
Went to do a course on Responsible Service of Alcohol , which I will need in my new job. Anyway working where alcohol is served needs a certificate. It was very interesting and I passed the test and the most awful role play we had to do as part of assessment ! I don't enjoy role play .
Train home , admiring the lovely views and stopped in at library for a couple of books and a CD story. I still feel strange listening to a 'book' but I can multitask and potter at the same time!
Think I'm going out on a carbohydrate free hot date with my husband tonight!
Have a lovely day.
mcculoch puppy is just gorgeous.0 -
Morning
ARGHHHH just lost a post so here goes again.
McCulloch - Walter is lovely
DD- Have a great time in Berlin
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. DD got another shift at work as someone called in sick for the afternoon. This was the first time she had manned the desk on her own and she did really well. I left work before her today and was great to see the look on her face as I walked out the door and she had to work later. This does mean she has a bit more money when goes back to college which is all good plus is really helping to boost her confidence.
2. Got jobs I needed to get done at lunch time - picked up train tickets for DD plus got her passport photos done and a top taken back to shop. Treat DD to a sandwich for lunch before she started work.
3. Another one who no longer looks like a badger. Had hair cut and coloured at new hairdressers which whilst not exactly MSE is still so much cheaper than last hairdresser.
4. Naughty but yummy chinese takeaway for dinner so no cooking
5. Managed to get some towels and bedding dried on the line.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
1. ANCIENT CRONE CELEBRATES.
