McHags: Good Luck.
Pondered to a boot fair picked up a couple of things.
Popped into a garden centre walked out the first one in disgust at their prices, popped to a 2nd and they had a massive clearance, ended up with 30 plants for £15
All planted out in bedding and hanging baskets
Watched Madagascar 3.
Made some cupcakes cooking away at the moment.
Food wise was just a potato salad, to warm. but did have a load of strawberries.0 -
Another hot day!
Pleasures for today:
1) Listened to the Archers.
2) 2 more load of washing done and dried outside.
3) Finishing bits off from the fridge so fried mushrooms for lunch.
4) Spent 3 hours working on my dissertation this afternoon, in the churchyard matching photos up to the right documents.
5) Churchyard is a good 500m from the nearest house (and there are only 10 houses in the village, one of them mum and dad's!) So very quiet indeed.... I was working away when I heard something struggling to get out of the woods INTO the churchyard... Saw a flash of bright red that I thought might be someone's T shirt. Looked away to put the laptop down then there was an almighty scream - about 10m away from me! Jumped out of my skin but it was a baby muntjak. :-) Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWLYfasFEOc
6) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
7) Back to mum and dad's for lots of games of table tennis then a zoom down the lane to the brook on the scooters.0 -
Just in, still wanting to linger out in beauty of evening.
bop - if you do turn skint's yellow thing down, I'll take up her slack.
1- however many.
I love the sun, any amount of it, being under it, beached whaling beneath it and so I have done all weekend, in privacy and revelling in this, with bits of modest gardening, attempts at reading, total Ashes involvement with The Wireless, various pickings of strawbs, white currants[]150 gms strip-picked]and black currants[800gms and some still coming - close inspection reveals I don't have red currants after all], little crunch munch of first delicious pea-pod, just 3 No-More-Plants safely in, w8rs rtc [STRIKE]£7.99[/STRIKE] 99phttps://www.google.co.uk/search?q=scabiosa+baroccA&rlz=1C1AFAB_en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=WRXjUfrHB82k0AXF-4HgDg&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=671, npd/nsd today and another warmed potato salad eater here ce soir, pk:D,with a rtc w8rs 76p [STRIKE]£7.60[/STRIKE]little boned lamb joint+ braised onion, own herbs, salad, with work-y pleasure interludes meaning 7 jars of strawb/rhubarb jam and 5 jars currant jelly potting up just completed, all h-g. I have only ever had your sort of berry count before, ccp - yours will come prolific, I swear. Birds have joined me throughout. There is a new and diligent monkish merle[about 3 weeks now] who stays close, flies down it seems to me[how we flatter ourselves]when I go out. Monk-ish? - yes, because he has a bizarre, definite tonsure, flat-top head with a raised circular edge and 2 yellow ear 'tips', but he is definitely a blackbird. A young wren was with him just now as I farewelled the night garden and there's a new young thrush who guards the porch step and doesn't move when I tell him that I am going indoors.
I am now going the sort of colour I long to be, used to be, all year round.
Tomorrow I'll be back at Charity in former mode, with x - another day.
mhags -I am so Lady Benevolence in this mood, filled with sun, utterly farctated[a great one to look up - oh, how we giggled and cackled aged 14 over the SOED and still can 50 years on] with goodwill and luck and wishes for you, not that you need them. You'll do this one on pure merit.
Welcome to bizzylizzy, whose no.5 absolutely ticks every box with me.
sugarpuss - we're not light years apart but what thunder was this? None here. Hearty Fen/Angles-welcomes to you.
vjm- may I add special thoughts directly to your DS. I was horrified a couple of years ago to be at the home of someone whose early teen son rushed in...the f-b thing[I largely have a hatred of social networking for this sort of unreason]...some school 'friends' were crowing, laughing, threatening, joking about the death from cancer during that very week of Mum's long-time partner, someone much admired on mse, though rarely visits nowadays. That's why I was down there. I could not believe there was not somehow some sort of instant Heavenly Thunderbolt Old Testament punishment roaring down...
There is a piece in Saturday's Times which I can send if you'd like...relevant, difficult, in that the mother had/has problems of most kinds even w/o ptnr's suicide, but has written a book which seems searingly honest.
Let's close with yellow thing thanks to bop - I certainly do - re:whose ' Don't forget to reduce the house work to a minimum by abolishing all unnecessary polishing of metal, washing of curtains and sweeping of carpets' means it's time I wheeled out one of my all -time faves, thus::D

1. o/s brekkie in still dawn, sun rising left-ish[good-o!]over back field of soft green wheat, through line of poplars, small morning sounds.
2. Awake earlier still, having found self hearing Sir David Hare's play 'Murder in Samarkand' about Craig Murray, former Ambassador to Uzbekistan. I remember this happening and have wondered what became of him. Is it my illusion that David Tennant seems often principled in his acceptance of rôles?: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qs5x7/Saturday_Drama_Craig_Murray_Murder_in_Samarkand/
3. Birds detailed in prev. post all out ahead of me.
4. New currant jelly on toast is excellent and beautiful deep garnet colour held up to light.
5. About to have no.2 tea, beginning new book - David Profumo's 'Bringing the House Down'. Recommend the Prue Leith 'Relish' one all over again, reluctantly finished, eked out till late yesterday.
6. Online deliberately to ensure mhags is properly on her way to Wow them at i/v....except she has no need of extra help. Go, go, go mhags, may that job of dreams be yours.

Well interview has been postponed as owner had to pick up her sick child from child care! Re scheduled for Wednesday and she does want to meet me....unfortunately I never checked my phone before leaving work or I could have saved myself a journey ....however I have now driven the drive and know the way so won't be as nervous driving next time!!
My work went by quite quickly today....however stressy little man again made my decision to leave the right one with his stupid attitude!
Was a lovely sunny day until now when it's about to pour with rain!
DD1 and I saw the most stunning rainbow , it was so wide and looked like the pot of gold was just 2 streets away.
Watched casualty whilst ironing last night. I thank the kind people who upload these shows onto YouTube!
Have a lovely Monday and thank you all for our kind wishes!0 -
Argh, MHags! Best of luck for Wednesday! (And you've reminded me I should get the iron out once in while, instead of just not wearing the clothes that need ironing...)0

1. The wonderful scent of the honeysuckle in the garden.
2. Knowing the washing will dry and smell lovely.
3. Letting the outside in by opening all the doors and windows.
4. Ice cream with chocolate flake being eaten by happy children.
5. Travelling light - no jackets or cardis needed when I go out!0 -
Afternoon all.
Right, I'm back, after a mostly very pleasant weekend, despite a few problems with the hotel - I've just filled in their 'customer satisfaction' survey so you may hear more about this in due course...
Anyway, 5 for today:
1) Scrummy breakfast at the hotel - I particularly liked the fact that, rather than cheap sliced bread, there was a basket full of various types of loaves for you to slice yourself.
2) Our train home wasn't until 1.30, so we had a mooch around the town and a coffee in a shop in a 12th century courtyard (well, eventually it was coffee - their first attempt at an iced coffee involved Camp coffee, despite the presence of a perfectly good coffee machine on the bar, and was quite revolting! _pale_).
3) Got home to find all my plants alive, if rather droopy from lack of water, and the aubergine plant has its first aubergine. :j
4) Picked some more blackcurrants, and there will be more ready tomorrow which should give me enough for a decent bowlful (thanks for the reassurance BTW, ampersand - it's good to know I won't always be getting my currants by ones and twos!).
5) Takeaway pizza tonight, as I really CBA to go up to the shop in this weather, and it's :money: as I have a free pizza due to me after I made a complaint last time.
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
