No worries all. I have known for some time. Only thing is Aunt only came to terms with it due to the coverage of Jimmy and Stuart. She was treated as the S L U T with the B A S T A R D son. Well how wrong! She was looking after me for her elder sister. Wanted to do nursing, took a shoot and it was not her he wanted. Yes photos he provided, but the loss of beauty was her. She told people. But, who would believe this S L U T. She was with child out of wedlock. It was her fault? They never bothered, and another, was another bu99ered? She was treated like ship. We cannot have nurses who go around like that, so her choice was over. Career ruined.
Thanks to the coverage, she came to terms this year, after years of bottling it up.
To think, it was only in 1998, in college, another single mum came to my table, put the brake on her pushchair and asked about the birds and bees. People treated her differently, her daughter now the same age as she was that day.0 -
Bop - I too was a victim of that era and still struggle after 4 years counselling. It was and still is a dreadful state of affairs and the like of Stuart Hall and Saville (to name a few) make my blood boil.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Sorry vjm, but a pet loathe of mine is [STRIKE]'inspirational'[/STRIKE]. The word is 'inspiring'.
Always happy to learn
Sparrer - a popular Korean name is "Kim" - short and sweet? Though I do like Treacle. Ours is Rufus, cos it's red, but my favourite name was Trevor because that was the name of the bloke we got the car from. Sometimes registrations can give inspiration (that's right isn't it & ?) we've had a Geoff, cos it was GF and a friend had Fify cos it was FIF xxxY
Off to Sheffield, have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
BoP, all words are kinda redundant after that, massive hugs.
I'm so pleased that DS's words brought so much pleasure, if you want to picture him think of a dark haired Dr Christian Jessen, but 6' 5'' and muscular instead of 5' 9'' and you have him.
Collection.
1. Weather.
2. Royal Ascot, for the horses not the clothes, and Ch. 4 showing ALL races.
3. Friend was stressed over not being able to afford small birthday gifts from local shops, a quick visit to £land sorted that one for her at very little outlay for me. Nice gifts too, so she was happy. Free bus travel for me made it possible.
4. Fruit and veg from super- cheap greengrocer - half a dozen doughnut peaches for 99p, 10 large apples for £1, 500g toms 50p, and cherries at 50p a quarter.
5. Wearing a lovely new top that my sister gave me as a birthday gift, so comfortable but stylish too and long enough to cover a multitude of sins.
Edit... wrote all the above last night and then fell asleep in chair without posting. Woke up about 4 am!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Car and other names.
My trike is Rossa, because he is red, but I don't usually use his name, he's 'the trike'. Most people view me as being faintly eccentric just for riding it, using his name in public would be a step too far. It would be lovely to see more of them on the roads and cycle paths and to cease being such a novelty,
My son's 4 cars (4 he has owned so far that is, he doesn't currently own 4) have had names based on the registration.
WBR the Peugeot was Wilbur, PUB the Corsa was Pub or Pubby.
KEV the Astra was Kevin, unsurprisingly (which DS had mixed feelings about as he had an ex-colleague of that name who was a complete idiot).
The current car LYL, is not Lyllian, but Lyle as he is a big butch Vectra and definitely not female.
Eventually DS will get a car with a registration like XEG and un-nameable, I am sure, but it hasn't happened yet.
I don't drive now but the one car I owned was VNL the Fiat and white. She was Vanilla, of course.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... The car I learned to drive in (dad's car) had OLW as part of its registration plate so we called it.... Ollwu !0

Oh how I loathe all these evil rats creeping out of their nests. Now my happy, quiet little town is under the spotlight for Saville having been seen visiting the local Catholic boys home (long since closed, thank God). There is an ongoing enquiry into happenings there in the past, to learn that he was there from time to time is opening up yet more wounds.
As a single teen mother in the 60's I understand the ostracism girls went through. Warm, heartfelt (((hugs))) to anyone who went through that time of 'free love' which was a complete myth. As BoP's dear aunt and many others discovered, there was a horrific price to pay.
Frith what can one say? So many sad people in the world, so many trying to spoil others' lives. Just thankful that time is over and youngest son is in a good place today
lfs I have cat envy! I wish I could have more mogs but Yang is very unsociable and introducing more (I've been offered 5 adults from two friends who have to rehome them for various reasons) would, I'm sure, lead to a lot of jealousy and the inevitable scraps. Would dearly love them though.
VJsmum I've tried ever way I know how to make sense of the reg, Kefi was so obvious as she was KE51 - lots of peeps have suggested she could have been Kesi, but 5 begins with f. ZJV has even beaten all the word makers and anagram sites so it will be non-reg related, at the mo it's a choice between your preference for Treacle and Kittikins vote for Puddin'.
mcculloch I like Rossa, you should make sure everyone called the trike by his name! Nowt wrong with a bit of eccentricity
so far today -
1. Pruned back a shrub which loves being trimmed, rewards me with masses of flowers through to late Autumn
2. Admired the Little White Pet rose, which is covered in buds
3. My friend in Oban sent a little brooch/pin I thought had been lost between her floorboards. I'm so happy to have it back
4. A friend who was coming for coffee had to cancel due to a problem with her LO at school - sounds familiar - so I've a completely free, and rather lazy, morning
5 - to follow
Addition to my sig which seems appropriate today.
Enjoy the racing/tennis whatever takes your fancy0 -
Re car names - my current one is Olop the Second, as my first ever car was also a VW Polo, called (obviously) Olop. My sister's first car was a rather clunky orangey-red Fiat which became known as The Clockwork Orange. My last-but-one car was a purple Ford KA which I called The Aubergine; my sister now has a red one which, following the theme, is The Red Pepper. (My last car was generally referred to as 'that damn thing' - I never did like it much!
)
Frith - I can't tell you how angry your post made me. How dare they make up things like that?
ampersand - can I come and help with the bunnies tonight, please? I'm very fond of rabbits - I owned several as a kid / teenager - but I'll stay away from the chickens, if you don't mind: I know it puts me in a minority here but I'm really not keen on them. (It's the beady eyes, featherless crests, and sharp, pointy beaks. Shudder. _pale_)Back after a very long break!0 -
Expletives. I was a bit knocked out by BoP's posts and didn't read Frith's properly about the old school's sickening blackening of Smaller Son's character. I am hopping mad on your behalf, Frith. I hope it's taken further and they are taken to task for it. It brings a lot of disturbing thoughts about their suitability as an educational establishment to mind.
(Riposte has just won at Royal Ascot for Lady Cecil, Sir Henry Cecil's widow; his funeral is Monday. Cue happy tears.)Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Mmmmm McCulloch, I'm weak at the knees at the description of your son!! tee hee
Off for a cold shower, will be back later with my pleasures0
