In absentia. Ship wrecked?
Jenny reboot this morn. No not fed up, but a bit grumpy. Be buck later with full catch up.0 -
Morning all!
Everyone's back - lovely!!
Ooh exciting Archers to look forward to - some might say that's an oxymoron if ever there was
Dundee - random "interesting" information* - I took a group of students on a study visit to that Tescos years ago
*(as in I often say "mmm interesting" to my OH if he is boring on about something)
Lovefullshelves - I hope you are having a better day.VJsmum have a super time in Milan. You'll feel brighter when you're there with your girlie friends
Thanks but it is a bit yes and no. It was a lovely weekend (highlights to follow) but there is one "friend" who is making it very difficult for me to like her. Everything is a challenge, everything is a battle - 3 of us want to stop for coffee, she doesn't so we don't; 3 of us think it's a good idea to check in for the flight before we go and explore for the day, she doesn't so we don't so we nearly missed the flight due to transport mishaps; 3 of us want to go in a particular restaurant, she doesn't - well you get the picture. To cap it all when my main meal didn't arrive at the table she said "well you won't exactly waste away, will you?" - I am 5'7" and wear size 12 so hardly a porker!! It would be funny if it wasn't so annoying! I have decided that I don't need to have that negativity in my life, she isn't especially a close friend of mine and I don't need to spend good money to fight stupid battles, so I may not go again.I spent the journey up with a very nice young man which helped the night go quickly,
I bet it did!!:rotfl:
My pleasures for the last few days (and there were many)
1. didn't freak out on the bumpy bumpy flight - the worst I've known for a long time. Copious amounts of pre flight and in flight wine helped
2. the weather was much better tahn predicted
3. we went to lake como - oh my gosh it was breathtakingly lovely. We went on our honeymoon 22 years ago and the weather was awful - am going to persuade oH to go back for our 25th.
4. Spent one day in a couple of towns on the lake - Bellagio mainly. gorgeous
5. some lovely food (well, the stuff that arrived anyway), and coffees and ice creams
6. Mostly it was a laugh (which is why I am saying "may" not go again on the annual girlie outing)
7. DD had tidied her bedroom and thoroughly cleaned it - and thrown stuff away!!:T
8. walked on the roof of Milan cathedral - don't often get to do that!
9. we made our flight home, but it was a close run thing due to train strikes, buses dropping us at the wrong terminal and a horrendous storm.
10. The house isn't too devastated - but the laundry fairy took a weekend off too.
I have a marking marathon this week, so had better get on.
Chicken - don't diss the cucumber patch, you don't know what you're missing in the freaky alien boyI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Morning
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Bit of a lie in with a cup of tea and my book
2. Got up to put the washing out, put a chicken and a ham in the oven and put the breadmachine on then back to bed with another cup of tea. Chicken and Ham eventually sliced up and in containers in the fridge ready for packed lunches through the week.
3. Lovely early dinner with DD near Chiswick, very tasty and reasonably priced especially for the area we were in.
4. Engineering works on the tube yesterday so we had a magical mystery tour of West London. We had left plenty of time so just enjoyed people watching
5. Went to see Russell Howard do his warm up for TV show on free tickets in what must be the tiniest theatre in London. We were at the Tabard Theatre which has 96 seats.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Hi all just nipping in the "see" you all. Bit busy at the mo.
1. seeds palnted
2. cake in the oven
3. pasta for lunch
4. paddock harrowed.
5. puppy asleep0 -
Victorieuse, ici- suis-je!
Putah has taken >3 hours to run itself into opening, so fingers crossed.
Now, really! Expected my catch-up read to be page upon page of MY STUNNING 16-15 win in the Aviva on Saturday. NOT ONE WORD! So THIS million of spurious usual will not go amiss. [WARNING: there will be a 3-hour written/viva voce examination on every aspect of The Day, Le Match, The Aftermath.]
Read on[more likely, skip next 64 years, for I've lived every day of every one of them in bringing this victory home, be assured. My voice is sandpaper, just....]
1. Truly not long in. I have had the most fantastic, wonderful w/e, regret not one iota, not one simgle thing, not one penny/cent. Thankyou Spitalfields. Sitting here still fully attired in rouge et noir, suitable Toulon scarves and decorated about myself and chapeau with sprays of artificial muguet[bought and made on Hickey's bridal haberdashery counter in Dublin with tremendous craic and empathy]fluttering loads of red and black ribbons and bows. I can't get enough of replaying in head and heart the joy of every aspect of journey, dawn arrival in Dublin Harbour, lovely YH finding me the last bed/newly cancelled, Hickeys-when I had brainstorm as above, THE ATMOSPHERE, the crowds, every welcoming soul- meaning the whole of Dublin's population, other French - all together without rancour[as seems common with round ball, not oval], 2 more i/v's, huge, happy family excitement feeling on walk to stadium, total carnival, 'Pilou Pilou' everywhere, choral contests with Clermontais en route - JUST THE VERY BEST OF ALL THAT UNIFIES AND UPLIFTS. Total validation of le ballon ovale and all it was intended to represent and evoke.
2. Won't keep saying endless more, because pleasures were infinite and are with me forever, which is a most definite one of itself.
3. At YH Dublin, a miraculous last-minute cancellation was being taken as I arrived around 7a.m, so I had the very last bed for the night, which happened to be pour femme and lower bunk - perfect. Then Brendan insisted I go and have a breakast[not entitled]and he and colleague sorted out all sorts of transport info, bedding, carboot likelies for next day etc.etc. How wonderful they all were! Met plenty of Toulonnais:-) and Clermont-Auvergnats and immediate rugby rapport was established. My joy in being in all of this was unbounded, with Dublin/Irish warmth, rugby predisposition and hospitality providing the perfect agar.
3. Over and again, too many times to enumerate: that happy clich! 'the kindness of strangers'.
4. Ooh, Archers has just started. I'd better listen up in view of repeated earlier comment on Exciting Times therein...
5. Dublin yesterday dawned hot and glorious - a true summer's day, all day long. Everyone out and loving it and talking about it to each other inclusively, meaning all of us in town for rugby too. French revelling in it, bien sûr! Unbelievably beautiful for finding way to early start bus to Balbriggan and carboot. Et oui dear readers - must always try to offset my travels, !!!!less OAP that I am. [Oooh, shouting match entre Lil'n'Paul- that's more good than bad.] Shared what was a round the houses, coast-hugging, rambling double decker front seat ride with a delightful Dutchman, whose company Microsoft
6. At village bus stop at journey's beginning, saw happy tanned face approach. Attractive woman, pink cardie with 6 different buttons[I sometimes re-sew sets this way, choosing memories of previous garments, themes and so forth]. I commented 'Oh good, I always feel if someone else arrives I haven't missed it. Illogical I know, but it feels right'. 'Oh, I'm not catching the bus I'm afraid but I love your hat'. 'Well, I was liking your cardie buttons, so there you are' and I suddenly see it is our new Vicar, as yet unmet. She asked where I was headed. I explained. And we were talking animatedly until suddenly bus was there!
How I liked her! tbc - definitely.
7. 2 wonderful msgs on phone.
8. I will not stop glowing from all of this despite a couple of nasties I know are lurking.
skint , chicken, please may I be trinity Third in your No Cummerbands Worn Circle? I dislike him fullstop and some self-regarding flim-flam I read. In one interview, he lamented the 'anti-posh' brigade who naturally target me. I can't help being from another class, speaking better, knowing how to behave'. Gives me the Oicks just to see him, which he would surely echo re:moi. My only Sherlock is the late lamented Jeremy Brett, which is not merely moi being boring old phxxt.
Kittkiins - Oh, I am so pleased - what an 'At last!' moment.
Frith - shouldn't legal allsorts be informed, and be keeping you informed, of any changes of address by ex-OH? Courts take a dim view of this sort of omission. Remember to stay above/beyond his provocateur tactics, which so shabbily push sons' buttons sometimes. But you and sons continue to do brilliantly, - blazingly apparent. It's an up,up, and away path. Good news re: archaeology work stint too.
Happy anniversaries and birthdays all round - many, many.
Greetings - pws52. You and shelves make more lovely reading.
pk - OH eeeks!
mhags - I hope you're happy I took you with me to Dublin. I know I deafened you. You deserved that scone!

If any of you recall someone I wrote of here, whose beautiful young son is now tetraplegic following a no-blame accident in which she was driving and the Hell her Life had become with ex-OH scenting huge insurance pay-out, may I give good news? After nearly 3 years[of friendship too: it was a chance crossing of paths late one wintry night@Mr T ]she is now in a safe place, employed, with a safe roof, real unfailing support, a happy birthday weekend en famille just over and things move on. She loves Wales and the sanctuary there found. It is still a vicious and horrific ongoing steamroller that is being driven at her, but it is becoming an irrelevance, thus a behemoth. In a text this morning, I felt it safe and irrevocable to give praise for coming through what many of us couldn't handle one whisker of. Her family is healing, despite every lowest ex-OH legal assault. He did finally and cruelly win custody, but a variation is now on the cards.]CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

( Same old, same old... ex Mr Frith has moved AGAIN (never more than 6 months in one place) and for the fourth week, has no car.
Not exactly surprising Frith.
Six months is the minimum time a LL can have a tenant before they can give them notice to leave (well they can give notice anytime but the earliest date that the LL can start to enforce removal is 6 months after the tenancy starts).
Also if you ex leaves by midnight on the last day of the fixed term (likely to be 6 months), he does not have to give notice at all. So my guess is that he shifts from property to property every 6 months. If he does not pay the last months rent, then the LL would have to claim in the courts for damages so is unlikely to bother.
Have you asked CAFCASS is making the boys ride 12 miles is acceptable? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Have you asked CAFCASS is making the boys ride 12 miles is acceptable?
Frith - have to admit this was my first thought too.
Ampersand - what a wonderful read, it seems you have enjoyed Dublin. Its been a few years since I last went and I loved the city but was shocked at the number of beggars on the streets and one beggar in rags with her babe in arms on the O'Connell bridge over the Liffey. Maybe they have done something to solve this now .....? or moved them on...
VJsmum I am glad the one objectionable "friend" did not spoil it totally for the rest of you.
BoP good to see you, hope you have stopped feeling grumpy - you know he doesn't like it
pleasures
1. Blood test at 8am so no traffic and no queues to hospital
2. bacon sarnie.... have been fasting since 6pm last night

4. increased gabapentin seem to be working.... have managed to clean & tidy today, washing done & on line since rain stopped about 1pm & ironing done. Also managed to get some food shopping ... hope I haven't overdone it... will have a warm bath later to ease the aches

Good evening all !
VJsmum - welcome back . It sounds as if you had an ok time ? I have to say it ...Re Cucumber patch -One of your famous quotes.."No sh*t Sherlock" ..Basil Rathbone is the real Sherlock:p
Skintos- doesn't the Gabap. make you feel a bit unhinged ?? It did me !
Ampersand - I liked the "odd buttons" story !
Frith- did your ex have to pay the bedroom tax then ? I would say no way to him re your sons cycling 12 miles to get to his house.
5 for today

It appears it’s a sad animal month for us:(, we had a rescue ferret turn up about 4 years ago now who was very old when he got here, and my lasting memory was of him finding his way round the house, and as he was an un kown to us we didn’t let him to near our faces, the 2nd night after he arrived I got in from a long day from work and wasn’t thinking I sat on the sofa and he walked around the top of the sofa and was determined to “kiss” me we couldn't send him packing then:), he was a gorgeous little guy and always seemed so happy to be here, he took it very easy and I dread to think how old he was, so when DH went to the cage and found him peacefully in the same position I had put him to bed, I am very sad but not surprised.
Didn’t sleep at all last night due to the above, and also had a very severe case of CBA workwise today, everyone has off days I hope. Thing Is I know I will pay for it as it all has to be done tomorrow. But I will deal with it then.
1.Borrowed a herbalist book on the kindle:cool:
2.Burning a yankee vanilla cupcake candle making the place smell lovely.:p
3.Comfort food defrosted from freezer, cheesecake slices.:D
4.We picked up 2 chicken legs for 40p at Mr T yesterday so made a chicken pie cooking away at the mo.
5. Planted the geraniums out.
6. 2 Graze boxes arrived.0 -
Evening all.
PK - I'm sorry to hear about your ferret. He ended his life in a good place, although I know that's not much comfort.
ampersand - I'm glad you had such a great time, and congratulations Toulon! :T
VJsmum - glad you had a good-ish time, at least.
DD - re cider - before I left the hotel, I popped into the bar to ask for a refill of my water bottle so I didn't have to buy water on the train (very :money:). Before I could say anything, the barman had a cider glass in his hand.
1) I didn't have any bread or milk in the house so wasn't sure what to do about breakfast this morning. Just as I was reaching the conclusion that I'd have to go without, I remembered a pack of crispbreads I bought a few weeks ago, which were very nice with some of the salami that's still taking up space in the fridge.
2) Wore my new earrings to work.(Didn't I mention those? Bought over the weekend, half price then half price again, from a little jeweller's that was closing down. Great for me, but sad for what seemed to be a nice little shop.)
3) It's my quiet time of year at work, so I spent an extended lunch hour (actually more like an hour and a half) writing reviews of all the places I went to over the weekend.
4) Popped into the supermarket on the way home: Monday's clearly not a great day for YS goodies, but I found a wedge of nicely gooey-looking Cornish brie that will be good for lunches for the next couple of days.
5) Received my free porridge, so that's breakfast sorted out as well.
6) Making a nicely alliterative prawn and pepper pasanda for dinner - I hope it tastes as good as it smells. :drool:Back after a very long break!0
