5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all, and apologies for last night's oddly truncated post - my phone decided part way through posting that it no longer likes the forum and, while I can still read, I can't now post.
So, last one for yesterday:
5) Sitting in the hotel courtyard with a cider - it's an old coaching inn so I was idly wondering how many thousands of other people have done the same thing over the past 600 years or so.
Today was somewhat marred with the discovery that trains really do hate me.Due to an accident there were no trains between Southampton and Portsmouth, so a 90 minute pootle on the train turned into a marathon trek on an over-heated bus.
It was a nice day until then, though:
1) Had a bit of a lie-in on the hotel's very comfy bed. It was a good reminder that I must get myself a new mattress, as it was something of a novelty to not be poked with a spring every time I moved!
2) Reverbed 5p.
3) Watching some tiny, fluffy ducklings on the canal, in the company of a very purry tabby cat. He was so happy sitting with me that a passer-by assumed he was my cat.
4) Lunch in a nearly empty Italian restaurant - I don't know why it was so empty as the food was delicious, and very reasonably priced.
5) Finally getting home, three and a half hours after leaving Reading - I could have got back from Birmingham in about the same time!
And I found the H&P building, too.Back after a very long break!0 -
Pleasures for today,
1. dropped DS off at Martial arts competition and drove to nearby Mata-lan and treated myself to some new tailored cut off trousers for summer. Much cheaper than expected and donated the £1 parking fee to NSPCC
2. nice lunch from freezer & catch up on Sherlock series 1 in anticipation of series 2 soon (?) Not sure what people see in Mr Cucumber-patch though
3. DS walked home so I didn't have to go and pick him up
4. decided to pop back to mata-lan to get DS some work clothes. Got 5 shirts, 3 pairs trousers, 2 packs new socks, 5 ties.... all paid for from saved funds over past few months (lower car insurance & house insurance savings), and he got 10% off with his student card
5. a flock / murmation/ chattering (?) of starlings on my lawn when we got back, so we had fun watching them running around the grass gobbling some bug/ grub / spiders.

Glad you had fun in Reading CCP
1. Chaperoned for DD's dance dress rehearsal this afternoon
2. DD and I had a nice, lazy morning before going out, more cuddles and silliness than usual!
3. Did some more sorting out, not much, but enough to make me feel like I'd done something productive today.
4. Have made a to do list that actually looks manageable for a change! (I'm the queen of lists)
5. Watching the Pub Landlord on Live at the Apollo on iplayer, v. silly0 -
I do love this thread, so many reasons to smile, even if they aren't mine!
1. Salad in my dinnertime sarnie that I grew!
For once I can only think of one thing, totally sad day, went somewhere I used to go with dadMy deareast friends husband came to see me and he was sad (she died a week after dad)

Well, I am recovering after getting a massive headbut in the eye brow. Am now misshapen and feel a bit sick. Sons have come back from their father's completely wound up. Smaller son has cried 3 times (he never cries) and in my useless attempts to comfort him, he shied away and managed to nearly knock me out. :-( Same old, same old... ex Mr Frith has moved AGAIN (never more than 6 months in one place) and for the fourth week, has no car. He dropped them off by taxi tonight, with their bikes, and has told them they have to cycle to see him tomorrow (12 mile round trip and its hardly very flat round here).
Anyway! My pleasures for today.
1) A good sleep.
2) Weighed myself on the Wii and found I now weigh the same as I did the day bigger son was born (BEFORE he was born.....) This is now ridiculous but I feel better knowing I am going to do something serious about it.
3) Went geocaching this afternoon, managed 3 and they were all good ones. Am working my way through the Shropshire churches series.
4) Started scraping down the porch for repainting.
5) Had tea at mum and dad's.
6) Enjoyed watching Dr Who with bigger son.
7) The Archers was exciting!
CCP - very sensible re the will writing. I need to do a new one but it seems quite expensive.
Lovefullshelves - sorry you had a sad day.
All Reading people - I'll be going through there next week!0 -
Oh Frith, that sounds nasty
Poor boys and poor you x Sending healing hugs for the brow x

frith i love katie morag.hope the boys are settling down after their w/e and your head is feeling better
lovefullshelves hugs
ccp cider is my pint of choice too
1) sunday school at church. We decorated cakes for pentecost and blew party blowers. One of the scallywags suggested wicked would be better than red wine for comunion. I said i'd pass it on to the provost.
2) shared lunch after. Sat next to people i havent seen for a while so good to catch up
3) met up with oh and girls who just happened to be in town. We went for a cuppa in the Empire and spent about an hour laughing over daft things
4) then home. Amazing, no more rain (though fog had eaten fife). Dd2 ordered chinese for all 6 of us. Lovely to have all 3 (plus dd2's bf)
5) then booked flights for prague and sorted out travel details for chelmsford. Oh has pointed out to me flying to stanstead much better (and cheaper) than training down. So just accommodationto sort now (for chelmsford and prague!)
Oh and a sneaky 6) called in tesco to pick up stuff for shared lunch and bagged a heap of spinach £2 to 20p and beautiful white lilies £10 to £1MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Kittikins quite a few of the girls who left school with me went to the Pru. I wasn't so adventurous, stayed in Henley and became a call girl
. The science experiment books sound fun, but keep your tin hat handy!
Frith what a coincidence you mentioning the Katie Morag books, which I remember too - I met a Katie and a Morag in Oban, and my favourite name to date, an Eilidh, pronounced Ailee, I think. Sorry to hear about your poor head, hope you don't have a bruise or black eye to have to explain away. Ex Mr F really seems to push the boys to the edge, horrid man.
lovefullshelves I'm so sorry you had such a sad day, hugs to you and wishes for a better Monday
CCP sorry you had a rotten journey home but well done on finding the H&P building, and I loved the bit about the mog and ducklings
1. Stayed awake to finish a book and was allowed to sleep in til 9am. Thanks, furries
2. Met friends at lunchtime, took some sheep-shaped shortbread (try saying that after a pint of cider!)
3. Planted a small conifer in a tub by the front door, and a couple of pots of surfinias which were on the casualty shelf of the farm shop. 24 surfinias and the conifer for £3.20p
4. Too late home for my planned haggis dinner so had a shepherds pie which I make in a ramekin. It's an attempt to cut down on meat, and the plate was loaded with veg to compensate. Didn't miss a normal portion at all.
5. Countryfile was partly about Henley, the regatta (a great sport was to befriend the crews and see how many boaters we could collect in the week. Evil children!), and Cliveden where we used to go as children but is now a disgustingly expensive hotel. Lovely to see it though, it brought back many happy memories of jam sandwich and lemonade picnics in the bluebell woods, which we were allowed to play in.
Sweet dreams0 -
Prague accommodation reservation request sent for apartment 10 mins after email to say it's available for the week we want. Minutes from tesco rofl. Family coming out day of my birthday. My conference finishes next day at noon. Perfect. Just need to get my ticket booked now but unfortunately that has to be through work. Fingers crossed they get me on the same home flight. Have now done 29 of my 50 so 21 to go before prague woohoo (can you tell i'm excited?!)
And yes sparrow pronounced ailee to rhyme with ceilidh ;-)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

lovefullshelves - I hope that you have a better day today x It is like being hit by a series of Mack trucks and you don't know when/have no warning when they are about to hit you. ((hugs))
Frith - ouch ! I hope that you are ok. Your ex has a habit of creating chaos doesn't he?
VJsmsum - is a fan of the cucumber patch (sounds a bit "Carry On ) . Not my cup of tea
