  • Hello all! Am a lurker to this thread but wanted to post for so long! Recent therapy made me realise just how much joy our days contain, even when there's all the rubbish stuff to deal with!

    1) the relatively new but wonderful boyfriend telephoned, and texted 'I love you'
    2) ate home made, and delicious soup, made mostly with ingredients my dad had bought :)
    3) wearing favourite gingerbread man pj's - so cold!
    4) used up random ingredients to make yummy lunch
    5) installed batteries in led lights for bike helmet. I WILL CYCLE TOMORROW.
I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Trying to find a work life balance...:rotfl:

A warm welcome to the newbies

PK I love 'ocean going vessel'. It's not, but such is the build of the thing it wouldn't surprise me if it could! 'Old granny vehicle' it's definitely not, wouldn't dream of calling chicken old :p

chicken your OGV is a mere baby compared to my little Korean job, bought her on 29th Sept 01 and she's still rattling along :D. I'll leave you to decide whether to tell PK yet as it's your mode of transport, though I'd love to know what sillier titles she and her OH have come up with

mhags keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, hoping the appt went well.

CCP how is mog? Fingers x'd for an improvement

    1. Not a pleasure that DD's parrot, Ozzie Oscar, is a very poorly boy and is at the vet overnight for obs. Heartwarming though to know that so many people are wishing him well, he's a daft thing and great at imitating her dogs and the washing machine!
    2. Met a friend for a cuppa in the little local cafe this morning, never been in there before but will definitely be going again. Very comfy leather sofas and individual cafetieres/pots of tea and extremely yummy Victoria sandwich which must be 4/5" high. We had one slice between us and it was more than enough
    3. The drain men came and rodded the drains in the gardens. Said mine and my DNeighbour's were completely clear, but that's because we don't pour fat or other nasties down them :p
    4. Went to the college for one of my treatments and I came out with eyebrows! The whispy non-coloured things are now tinted brown, lush and beautifully shaped. £3 very well spent
    5. Watched How To Be A Lady: An Elegant History on BBC4. I remember the deb years, glad I wasn't one of them though cos it looked like jolly hard work

    Sleep tight :)

    Morning

    Pleasures for yesterday,
    1. NSD
    2. Left over Chowmein for lunch, was not popular in the office when I heated it up as was making everyone hungry :D
    3. Laughing lots with my friend K at work over silly things
    4. Had put the slow cooker on before work so came home to the yummy smell of beef casserole. Also meant just had to throw together some yorkshire puddings to go with it and that was dinner sorted.
    5. I was feeling very hormonal last night so took myself off to bed early as knew I would snap at someone. Was asleep by 9.30 and feel a bit better this morning, sigh of relief all round in this house

Hugs to all who need them

Morning all - seem to have forgotten to post last night, though I did read

Frith - I shouldn't worry about that silly man. Only now do I realise what my mother must have gone through when I left home for University. I am so grateful that she kept it all to herself. I am faced with a similar thing next year with DD and dread it a bit (but this is Uni, not a holiday) - though I am looking forward to her bedroom being tidy! As well as [STRIKE]her[/STRIKE] my lounge.

Thanks for the linky, Amper - they can help me clean the bathrooms later
Welcome all newbies, this is the best thread on the board. Any other lurkers? Do come and join in.
Orange Gibbon Vomit? Old Guys Vacuum? Orangutangs Great Versatility? (I, too, know what it really is but I did have to ask :o)
poor parrot - was it you, Sparrer, who said they should be trained to say "Help I've been turned into a parrot"? :rotfl: I said this to my parrot owning friend, and apparently they did!:D
Re Archers - I am NOT enjoying the Paul and Lillian slurpfest, though am eagerly anticipating an Elizabeth and Ifty one. That company in Canada must be unique in allowing someone a month to make up their mind about a job offer. And why is there no snow in Ambridge - looking at the amount Frith has they should be overwhelmed in deepest Borsetshire.

    So yesterdays

    1. Working at home - and I actually had to do some, took far longer than anticipated but at least I was at home and it was as pleasant as it could be.
    2. very funny exchange on Facebook with colleagues :rotfl: All over a lettuce knife - little things please little minds.
    3. A pleasant hour or so sat in an unusually tidy lounge (see above), with low lighting and no noise whatsoever. So unusual in a house of teenagers - especially as they were in (as in at home, they weren't in the lounge).
    4. Very simple fish fingers and chips for tea
    5. The syndicate on TV

    have a pleasant day all.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • :j had the offer accepted on the house!

Sooooo excited. Went on a roller coaster of emotion whe OH rang to tell me. Swore, jumped up and down, cried, laughed then showed Ian the dog pictures of his new garden!

Never thought I would be buying a house with the most perfect OH. Had so much rubbish in life I had come to expect it permanently. Fingers crossed it all goes well. I won't settle until the keys are in my hand!

    Five for the last few days;

    1. All of the above :D

    2. Cashing in £35 in vouchers from various surveys. Don't know what I'm going to spend it on yet but I know it will be a treat just for me.

    3. Lots of freebies arriving in the post.

    4. Yummy prawn and rice one pot dish, prefer my jambalaya in terms of flavour but it was so nice to just have a carb laden, veggie packed dish, so soothing.

    5. Been mega productive over the last few days, struck a nice balance between working hard and rewarding myself.

  • Here's mine for yesterday/this morning:

    1) Working in a primary school gives me many 'special moments'. Today, I watched year 2's assembly to their parents. Absolutely, delightfully enjoyable

    2) A Year 4 told me today that he wanted to be a chef when older (I teach him cookery!!!)

    3) All 5 chickens laying an egg each today!

    4) Managed to take the spaniels on a long, but very cold, walk today. We had to go the long way round to avoid the streams and rills which are absolutey freezing because, as any spaniel owner will tell you, you can't keep spaniels out of water (except bath water, which they hate with a passion!).

    5) One just in .... my year 3's are using fresh coriander in today's recipe. One child asked which herb it was we used last week in the fish cakes. Reply - dill. Child - oh, like Deal or no deal:rotfl:Priceless!

    6) Sunshine through my bedroom window this morning when the alarm went off :j (it's gone now though:()

Very quickly as its 2.20 am! The rain has now started in earnest and will thankfully clear the hot air of the past 2 days , we were back up in the 30's for a couple of days. Trouble sleeping when it's so warm overnight. Will go back to bed after this.

Mr Mhagster saw his specialist and has a change of medication ( again! ). As a bit chirpier last night ( Wednesday ) so hope he is back on track. The past 3 weeks he has been so unwell for at least 2-3 days each week. Then seems to get over it then becomes very unwell again.

It was the equivalent of the same time last year Maundy Thursday that he was diagnosed . Although it will be next week for the actual one year. I have a mix of emotions about this. I see how far he has came in that time and what he has been through and what we have been through as a family. My children have seen more than I would ever have wished them too and I would have much rather OH had never had cancer in the first place but we as a couple have always accepted it , well it is happening and just got on with it, rather than a why him? type scenario. Cancer affects so many people and I know we are lucky that he is still with us one year on. Unfortunately he has been left with some chronic health problems and side effects of surgery that won't improve. However, it just becomes our new normal. All along this past year we have just 're- normalised' with each new situation we face. Still not easy seeing a once healthy , strong, fit man become a poorly skinny malinky ....5 stones lighter than a year ago, he was not particularly over weight!

Posting on here has helped me, the contact with my friends from home and practical support from new friendships made here has helped. Some people don't know what to do or what to say in situations similar to ours....I would just say I'm thinking of you. If you want to do something practical, make a pot of soup or a cake! The best gift I was given was the gift of time. A new friend here, cleared her diary for the initial 2 weeks (then the 3rd ) that OH was in hospital and drove into the city and picked me up every night. This gave me more time to sit with OH and not have to worry about walking to the train station in the dark.

My husband amazes me with what he has been through and what he still has ahead of home (needs more surgery at some point but not fit for it at the moment) he has never liked blood and gore or needles, does not share my love of Casualty and Holby! He has been through so much and has came out the other side of it all, a bit tattered and scarred and skinny but sense of humour still there ( even though it went missing during radiotherapy)

    Anyway a few other pleasures!

    1. Thanking you all for your good wishes. I don't think you know how much it means to see a get better soon mr mhagster post! We obviously don't know each other in the real world but in this virtual world of old style we come together every day and share our pleasures and our pains, our moans and groans and our happy moments. I really do appreciate the friendship shown here.

    2. Parrots! At least 200 swooped and swirled over me this morning. Sun rising round about when I arrive at work these days so they are obviously in their roosts later than before , so noisy , noisy funny antics each morning. Then I heard first and then saw the most beautiful parrot near work. Glorious green, red and blue chappy.

    3. Walking out the door bang on time at work, chatted with friend as I walked out . We have new staff team and some are better/ nicer than others! I work in a very fast paced, hard working environment on a uni campus and some of them are not quite working at the same pace as the rest of us! Which means much growling from manager! However it's a job, with mostly nice customer base and I think my dissatisfaction at end of last year has been addressed and resolved.

    4. Home! Then straight back out to parent/ teacher appointments at school. My DD2 who had such a bad start at high school last year is in a different class this year and the difference in her is amazing.. I have my happy girl back and she seems to be doing well enough at school. She has been chosen to be a leader within her production team in school play. This apparently is a big achievement. No tears at bedtime, no tears at breakfast about going to school. Just moans about the colossal amount of homework she has!

    5. Was trying to watch Holby when my big 2 came into see me, was languishing in the heat whilst my phone charged....they chatted and we laughed so much. It was lovely. Then OH came in and asked if it was a private party , it wasn't so he joined in for a little while, then DD2 came in and it was all rather jolly. All on my bed like they were wee again! ( except they're not! )

So, a nice enough day with a lot to be thankful for. It's now 3am so I'd better head back to bed and try and get some more sleep. It's lashing with rain which ,to me ,is a comforting homely sound. Garden needs it and it will clear the stuffy ,hot air.

Have a lovely evening as I embark on my hurrah its Thursday, a long weekend beckons and a birthday on Friday to look forward to !! With 5 whole days off work!
