My hyacinths were doing well, &, but the flowers have suddenly started going brown from the bottom.
Here are my pleasures for today so far.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Off to the doctors and got a course of tablets. Test from last week shows there is not a lot wrong with me.
3) Quite enjoyed going into nearest town. Took some stuff to the charity shop after the doctors and there was just no one around at all! They said (don't know which day, but during the snow) they took 75p all day.
4) Another 5 cm of snow last night so there is now a good 25cm lying around, with plenty of patches at 30+cm. Pleasure was the main roads were absolutely clear and gritted! And deserted. Oh yes, and this morning, I cleaned the windscreen of the car really well. And sat inside and let it demist and wound the windows down to clear them. Started driving forwards and realised I still couldn't see. There was so much snow on the bonnet, it was blocking my view!!
5) Both sons spent time at school, smaller son leaving at 11am as the snow set in yet again, arriving home in time for lunch. They couldn't get the minibus to school (big hill outside) so they had a bit of a trek. Then his taxi for the last bit of the journey goes past our house to turn round - and he got stuck for a while!
6) Smaller son and I walked to the local farm shop and had a cup of tea. The new waitress in there used to go to Brownies with me so I had a chat with her.
7) Made a very nice curry for tea with lots of peppers and king prawns. Shared a punnet of cherries afterwards.
8) Sainsburys order arrived! So there is more of a selection of food in the fridge now. Amongst other things, I had run out of Stork, cat biscuits, all fruit except apples, plain flour, bread flour and loo rolls.
9) Sons quite happy today. Bigger son went sledging with MrN's son 5 and didn't come back until it was dark!
10) Most jobs done here and the stove going well. Don't know if there is anything good to watch on the TV later.0 -
Evening
Pleasures for today,
1. LSD just spent a £ on some satsumas from the market. Also got a new hairbrush and some smelly stuff for OH but used B00ts points to pay with for these.
2. Friend needed a present for someone she had forgotton to buy for so managed to bail her out as still had a b0dyshop order in the office that I hadn't taken home. She was quite happy to get a strawberry gift set for £2.50 and I knew it was a spare gift.
3. Lunches were leftovers from yesterday plus HM soup of OH and me. All very MSE.
4. Easy cheap dinner of Fresh Ravioli in vegetable soup for dinner. Pack of Ravioli was £1 and fed all three of us.
5. My mum keeps a savings account for me. She doesn't like to use her card on the internet so I tend to order things for her and she puts the money in the account for me. There is a hundred pound more in the account than I thought there was so the excess will cover OH's birthday present next month.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening all.
I might be a bit short on pleasures today - I'm feeling quite down at the moment and struggling to find things to post about.
1) NSD, despite serious temptation - the soup I took to work for lunch looked disgusting when defrosted and I came very close to chucking it in the bin and buying something that looked more appealing.I made myself eat it, though, and it wasn't too bad... :undecided
2) Reading a bit more of my book when I got home.
3) Watching the latest episode of a rather daft detective series on iplayer while eating dinner.
4) Knowing there's a fleece blanket on my bed - it's a bit warmer outside than it has been, but I'm feeling decidedly chilly this evening.
& - best of luck for tomorrow, and with your complaint - I hope you get a decent response.
RevolvingDoor - well done on fielding the flying loo roll!Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all :hello:
Dundee Doll & VJs mum: Italian chicken is a meal which I originally found in a student cookery book when I was at uni a (cough) couple of years ago. Basically it's a chicken breast/thigh each, cooked with onion, garlic, peppers, mushrooms; throw over a tin of tomatoes, season with herbs etc and serve with rice or pasta, depending on preference. It's delicious, but DH is getting a little fed up of it, hence why I'm trying to find new recipes. My former uni housemates still laugh when I tell them I'm still cooking "Italian Chicken"! We used to share all the cooking, so they are VERY familiar with the recipe...
Right, my 5 pleasures today:
1) Found the decluttering thread. Honestly, more people to tell about my inability to get rid of anything/sort out my life!
2) Supper tonight has been spag bol... well, pasta bolognese actually. The sauce was from a large batch made last week, so it came out of the freezer.
3) Got a free trial of a resource for school for 3 weeks today! The HT is now impressed with my prowess.
4) Found a book club to join! A local social enterprise is setting it up with the first meeting at the end of February. I need to buy the book and read it... hmmm.... (doesn't help with number 1)
5) Still haven't found a recipe for the Clandestine Cake Club meeting yet. However, I'm having jolly good fun looking!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Oooh, & I fear I am too far north and too beeered to help with the road signs, but I am now thinking to download another dads army episode when you mention road signs. Was in your shire back last October, but down the old smoke this weekend, weather pending. Barking on Saturday. As I come from fish town, billingsagte is my idea of heaven!
Curry and wobbkeaded. Funtistico. I has drunk them out of pu55y (Everards Tiger).0 -
1. Got YS bargains when I did essentials shopping - 20p for a punnet of lovely plums was a good find
2. Managed to get DD and I both some 'treats' - YS croissants and a carton of very delicious apple and cherry juice for her and a delicious wedge of YS Morbier cheese for moi!
3. Invested 20p on putting air into the car tyres, much needed, I have a slow puncture on one but lots of tread on it, so saves me money:)
4. Another busy, great day at work. Off on a course tomorrow so will be able to take it slightly easier in the morning
5. Started the day with fabulous silliness with DD, who, yet again, had crawled into my bed in the night.......but at least this time it meant I was able to get her up in good time for us to enjoy breakfast together!
6. We personalised a MrT value cheese pizza for dinner and it was deeelish
7. Catching up with "Father Brown" on iplayer but am feeling rather sleepy, thank goodness for iplayer eh?!0 -
CCP - sorry you are feeling low, hope things pick up for you soon.
Chicken - she was confident about the exam and thinks it went as well as it could have, thanks for asking.
Vickya, thanks for the chicken recipe.
Ooh Frith and Ampersand - you;ve reminded me that I need to plant the hyacinths I got for christmas
Am just about managing to stay awake in the hope of not, once again, waking at 4.30. So, mine for today
1. A lazy bath this morning
2. Made yummy spicy carrot and lentil soup for lunch with odds and s0ds from the veg box and the freezer and the fridge
3. Made lemon drizzle cake, feel happy that things must be more back to normal if I'm cooking
4. Reading John Finnemore's blog - one of the reasons I have done bu88er all today. Speaking of whom
5. Cabin Pressure - 'nuff said
6. Watching the National Television Awards with DD - even though I watch very little television. I want to be Joanna Lumley when i grow up.
Night all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

5) then he gave me and dd a lift to the bottom of our road which is steep and snowy.
Night all stay safe. Planning italian chicken for the weekend :PMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

3. Sorted out the stock of birthday cards and found three suitable ones which have been written ready for posting tomorrow
4. nsd/npd
5. Went out! Got picked up in a brand new Landrover Discovery, very posh, a super meeting with 30+ friends, amazed they all turned out in the cold weather but pleased they did. One in particular who I'd not seen for some time, was good to know she's come back to join us
Going to brave the icy square tomorrow and visit Mr M for a few essentials. Leaving my debit card and only taking a little cash so I'm not tempted to buy what I don't need, as I'm doing a grand job of running the freezer down by not going out.
Sweet dreams0
