  • Ampersand what a shocking thing to happen! Hugs.

    My five for today;

    1. Clear blue sky this morning, first time there hasn't been a snowy cloud covering for about a week now. I love snow though so won't complain if more comes.

    2. Mega decluttering going on today. Braved the scariest of all scary places...THE CUPBOARD UNDER THE STAIRS  lots of cobwebs and crawlies but it was worth it because everything is clean and tidy and in its place. Lets just hope OH keeps it that way-he has a bad habit of opening the door and flinging his coat and shoe inside

    3. Getting lots of use out of my homemade household journal.

    4. Resisted the take away that OH was having for tea. I ended up with cheesy oven chips, not particularly healthy but cheap, quick and marginally better than a take away.

    5. Going to pop the kettle on and have a cuppa

    1) Gooseberry jam sandwich for breakfast. Not the healthiest start to the day, but .

    2) Made a start on my essay - it's a pretty easy question, so it shouldn't take too long to do if I can get my bum in gear and get on with it. :o

    3) Bean and veg burritos for dinner, which is one of my favourite veggie meals.

    4) Not going out to the pub quiz tonight - it's pouring!

    5) Instead spending time with a new book I got cheap online: I hadn't heard of it and bought it on a whim, but it's brilliant. :)

    Hugs to all in need.
Back after a very long break!

Sorry to hear about your police problem, Ampersand. Hope you get somewhere with your complaint.

Here are my pleasures for today so far:

    1) Not a bad sleep. Still not appreciating the early starts needed for smaller son's mammoth school run!

    2) Bloomin ada! I was going to put "no snow today" but I have just knelt on the sofa and looked through the curtains and it is snowing AGAIN!!! We already had 19 cm (less a bit from thawing) - we really don't need any more! The cleared and thawed garden path is white over now. :-( Well, a pleasure can be "no snow for much of the day".

    3) Took my car in to be mended. They leant me their spare car which is a pleasure because it makes my car look quite good! Have had a new CV joint on the left but really need one on the right as well.

    4) Found one of ours cats had been very naughty indeed in the boys' wardrobe.... it did mean I had to take everything out to clean it up then I had a sort through everything. I tend to pick them up t shirts from charity shops quite often so was able to give 10+ to the ex husband. I ironed all the ones left and some trousers that needed it and it looks good now.

    5) Put a few bits on Ebay.

    6) Did the last of the Christmas thank you cards. It is for my uncle Bert (nearly 94) who sadly has gone senile in a matter of weeks. Up until Christmas, he was still very sharp and living at home (with carers popping in) so a shock that he has deteriorated so quickly.

    7) Went swimming with my brother and did 600m.

    8) Enjoyed sitting in bed just now watching "World's Craziest Fools" with sons and then reading Harry Potter. (We're now on book 4).

    9) Waiting for sons to go to sleep properly now then I will have a cheese and HM chutney sandwich for tea and watch Holby.

Ampersand,i feel really angry on your behalf. What a complete and utter nightmare. I so hope your complaint is dealt with to your satisfaction and that such things do not continue to happen.

    My 5 for today...

    1. DD got to uni and back safely. DS was at his Dad's all day so nice and quite and chilled...and chilly day on my own with the dog. Oh happy day!

    2. Found some craft things online that i have wanted for a while, managed to get a little discount and super cheap delivery. Only came to just under £16 for the order, including delivery.

    3. I have a pile of books beside my bed, so bedtime reading will be perusing the writings of John Seymour and other veg growing authors.

    4. Made a really heavy fruit loaf in the breadmaker, it was so dense that i could hardly cut it. Decided my loss is the birds gain and threw it outside for the birds to enjoy...pigeons, robins and others happily pecked away at it. Please don't report me to the rspb for damage to the beaks of wild birds!

    5. Made up a salad using salad drawer contents, we will have to eat it tomorrow as we ended up eating something else this evening. Tomorrow afternoon we are at the hospital so it will give us something. Quick and easy to eat when we get home later in the day/teatime.

& blimey gal you do like a bit of adventure
katholicos john seymour. There's a name i remember well. Always thought he would have been good value on desert island discs
    1) remembered to take decaf teabags to work for colleague. Got them for mil over the summer
    2) boots leaked on the way in which wasnt good but remembered i'd got some liners and feet toastie again. Have ordered a new pair of boots but liners will do till they arrive. Wont complain -they were a fiver from the CS nearly a year ago
    3) needed to wrap mum's bday pressies. Found some brown paper while dcluttering at the w/e. 7 presents all italian themed matching the colours of the rainbow, so wrapped them in the brown paper then made luggage type label out of the right coloured card and attached with matching wool :D
    4) saved a heap of card being thrown out at work and gave to next door's 3 and 5 year old. They're thrilled.
    5) the beef stew with beans lives to see another day, courtesy this time of a few more veggies. Nom nom

    Flippin' 'eck Ampersand. Awful.

Don't just stop with the MP. There's those 'Police and Crime Commissioners' that got elected last year. :Dhttp://www.policecrimecommissioner.co.uk/ according to their website 'Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) will aim to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service.
Police and Crime Commissioners ensure community needs are met as effectively as possible and will improve local relationships through building confidence and trust.' The PCC for Kent is one Ann Barnes (in her late 60s?) who is being paid £85K  a year to do her job and is obviously waiting to hear stories like yours. https://www.kent-pcc.gov.uk/

    Makes me so cross.

Heigh ho. Five pleasures for Tuesday:

    1. Got the mega shop done so a spend-day but cupboards are full. The thought of more bad weather no longer scares me - but better not turn to thaw and floods just yet! :D

    2. Filled two fruit bowls and the biscuit tin. It may all be cheaper or basics stuff but to fill things up feels so abundant.:D

    3. Put in a good word at the supermarket customer services for the lovely assistant who helped me lots at the checkout. I think it's important to say when praise is due. I once rang a well-known stationers to say how much I'd appreciated someone's help. He'd gone that extra mile and it really helped me. It turned out that he was a young management trainee and my comments would be put on his record. He was due for review for promotion and they took account of unsolicited feedback from customers.

    4. Started snowing heavily with big snowflakes on the way home. :)

    5. Opening the door to the smell of veggie hot pot in the slow cooker. :D

    Sweet dreams

Ampersand, I really, really hope you take it further. We have some lovely beat police locally, but others...
When he was younger my DS was so keen to be a policeman, but when he started going out for a drink, then worked as a barman for a while in a nearby town, he had his eyes really opened.
He lost a lot of respect for the constabulary, and dropped his career plans. Not all policemen are like that of course, but he saw enough.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

    Evening all :)

ampersand hope you've feeling a .little more relaxed by now, good luck with the complaint
Broomstick well done on knowing about PCC's. Apparently the turn-out to vote was tiny, people said it was a waste of money. We'll find out how well they do their job if ampersand goes down that route
BoP horrid place, I swear the road signs see me coming and deliberately change direction every time I go there!
PK I'm also trying to fill this year's isa, Christmas was more expensive than I expected so it'll be tight but keep sifting away what I can when I can. Good luck :)

    1. Cleaned the wardrobe mirror doors, then all mirrors/glass/frames in the house

    2. Finished scrubbing the off-white bedroom carpet, looks a bit patchy atm but should be fine when it's completely dry

    3. Took all the light bulbs out, cleaned them and the ceiling fittings. It occurred to me as I was doing it that I've only had to change one light bulb in the house since starting to use eco ones some 8 years ago

    4. Washed down the bedroom doors, horrid 'sapele' veneer things. I got some lovely glazed door from freecycle for downstairs, am now scanning the ad's for some bedroom ones - not glazed, of course!

    5. The flowers I ordered last Friday still not arrived so phone the company who were full of excuses til I covered them all with facts, then offered me 25% refund. Accepted on the condition the flowers all turn up by tomorrow - one lot was delivered this afternoon, so will just have to wait and see if the other lot does.

6 ;). Brushed all the snow off my car and decided to run it for a few minutes. I've not driven it since last Wednesday but it started first time! Love my car :D

    Sleep tight :)

Morning all - crashed out unconscious on the sofa last night, for 4 hours!! Blooming jetlag.

Ampersand - shocking behaviour. But I am loving the idea of your left glove being under La Tour. I love Paris, I think it is my favourite place in the world.
Vickya - I, too, am interested in Italian Chicken
Sparrer / BoP - I once ended up going round and round Bedford after being diverted (or was it Bedworth??)
Katholicos - I'm sure the birds aren't fussy! I must put some food and water out.

    1. Awake at 4.30 but felt surprisingly perky - until 7.00 (see above)
    2. Drive to work was a little scary but was managed. Nice to catch up with colleagues, who said I had a tan!
    3. Taught my first proper class of the year. A lively bunch who will be a joy - especially the one who thinks he knows more than me. There was a time I'd have felt a bit intimidated by those, but no more :p
    4. Left over pasta with a handful of rocket for lunch. Was surprisingly yummy
    5. My student who had worked hard for a commendation only to have it capped, was reinstated yesterday so his commendation will stand. :T Really pleased for him as he is one who was a pain in the bum for ages, but really turned it round so I am glad he has been rewarded for his hard work.

I have a working at home day today. I will do half today and half at the weekend, so that I can do some "potter round the house" bits as both kids, finally, at school.

    Have a good day all

Edit - <<groan>> spoke too soon, DD is on her way home at 9.00 - I think I might find her some housework to do.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
