Hello, it's Sunday morning here....late night last night so sitting up in bed catching up on emails, facebook and old style before getting up!

    Saturday pleasures :

    1. Had a fabulous chat/ moan/ laugh with one of my best friends from home for over 2 hours! Can't wait to see her in person on 2 little weeks!

    2. Saturday scone....left off the jam this week and it was much better than usual, it is always a very tart raspberry jam that makes me go 'oooooooooo'

    3. Had a $35 voucher for supermarket so bought some nice Christmassy treats with it and saved a lot on my shop.

    4. It was so hot yesterday , 37o, got lots of washing done and each load was dry by the time the next one went out! We were going into the city to meet friends and it was boiling hot......we were dressed appropriately for the weather as we left......45 minutes on a train later and the cool weather frontal change had happened, it went from 37o to 17 o and it was blooming freezing! Bizarre!

5.met up with old friends and met some new ones! Had a lovely night in their company, was a change to be out with older company and not the young pups that I work with! So was very civilized. Went to quite a few pubs and bars before having a very late meal in a very expensive ( yikes! ) Italian restaurant ....as we were going home on train OH asked..." when was the last time YOU went on a pub crawl? " I don't drink at all and he hasn't had alcohol since his surgery. ...we were a cheap date!

I had a pea and pancetta risotto and it was very nice ....not worth the exorbitant amount they charged though! However....on the money saving side we didn't buy a round of drinks as every time we got our money out someone got theirs out quicker!

We got home to find ourselves locked out of the house and had to wake DS up ........what time of night do you call this? .....

Right I'd better get up, loads to do today!

Sweet dreams to you all x

    Happy Birthday missmoneysave !

Keep on looking after yourself Skint. Get better quickly. My bug vanished in a couple of days so I don't think I can have had jab-resistant man flu ;)CCP do not succumb to that sore throat!

VJsmum DS1 has done an amazing job about saving for the car and related costs. I'm really pleased with him about that. So many of his friends have had cars as gifts from parents  and I'm not sure that any of these young people understand about saving. We got some quotes for a black box but actually we can get a cheaper deal through my insurers getting a second car insured through them but in DS's name with me as a named driver. I asked what the costs would be for a driver with a year's no claims and the insurance would drop by £400 at today's prices. I'm hoping that this (plus the need to drive economically to keep fuel costs down) will be incentive enough to have an accident free year. I'm sure he's an ok driver, I'm just scared that he hasn't had practice over and above driving lessons, other drivers behaviour can be unpredictable particularly on our country roads and the impending awful winter conditions are scary. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, my five pleasures for today:

    1. DS1's weekend job finishes at the end of the year but he came home with the news that he heard today that he has 6 months worth of paid work from the end of January - he can choose how many hours he works up to full-time as long as the project is completed on time so he'll be able to fit it around other commitments which is brilliant :T This is in the field he wants to work in. The employers would take him on in a permanent job if they could but the type of work has been hard hit by the recession and they are trying very hard to find ways of keeping him in funded employment. Really pleased for him. This in itself is worth all five pleasures and, together with the prospect of a car, has made his week!

    2. I'll manage some more pleasures though :D... I wrapped the Christmas pressies and finished off buying the last little bits and pieces for the tree.

    3. Following a discussion on another thread about the costs of Christmas and when to stop present buying, I remembered posting about this two years ago. I searched and found the post and realised that we are still keeping our costs at about the same level or maybe a little less.

    4. We have treated ourselves to tickets to the Hobbit film on Thursday to celebrate the end of a very tiring term. It's years since I've been to the cinema with the DSs :) and I'm really looking forward to it.

    5. The river level is gradually continuing to drop. We are still on flood alert but the trend is in the right direction

    Sweet dreams

    My pleasures for today (Saturday)

    1) A bit of a lie in!

    2) House reasonably tidy and I cleaned the bathroom this afternoon.

    3) Tomato soup for lunch.

    4) Sister's boyfriend (perhaps we should refer to him as uncle from now on for convenience!) took sons Geocaching. They had never been before but did a local one and enjoyed putting their names on the log (in the box) and online.

    5) Made a big tea, I think we're hungry because it has been so cold. I made toad in the hole, roast carrots and sweet potato, peas and gravy.

    6) Went to bingo with sons, my brother and my school friend. It is just a little local bingo in the village hall. Bigger son won a basket of crisps! All different types inc kettle crips, twiglets, cheddars etc. Enjoyed a cup of tea and mince pie in the break, it is always so cold in there.

    7) Had a good chat with school friend who hasn't long gone.

    8) Bed in a mo with a hwb and hopefully the Now Show.

All is well thank you Chicken, Kittikins & Skint, just feeling a bit anti of late. This too shall pass, as they say
    Skint get well now
Chicken I hope you haven't caught my grouchy-itis!
Belated Birthday congratulations Missmoneysave, hope it brought you everything you wished for :)
OT your electricity bill is amazing, you're certainly MS! Mine is £330 a year for just one person and I just can't get it any lower.
BoP thoughts going out for your mate Chas. Missed each other again, had I known you were going to Henley...
CCP sorry about no snow in Pompey, it turned to sleet here too. Will catch some for you next time. Hope you're feeling better now
Frith pleased the uniform turned up at last, better late than never. Well done bigger son for being MS and happy to wear a 'new to him' coat :)
VickyA how exciting for the children, and how good of Claire Lomas to go to meet them at school. A bonus could be that they'll see a person with a disability and realise they're quite normal, and accept others with disabilites as they grow up.
Broomstick well done your DS! He'll go far in life, and not just in his new car. Eta just read about his job offer, that's super :T
Vjsmum pleased to hear your DF is doing well, it must be a weight off your mind. Congrats on the trousers, what a lovely feeling
Mhags you dirty stop-outs! Love your DS's reaction, had something similar many years ago and don't they make you feel like their children instead of the other way around? ;)
ampersand and DD, where are youuuuuuuuuu???

1.Had a day out with DD yesterday, a good lunch and some shopping but neither of us could find anything to spend our money on. It all seemed just the same old same old, so we saved our pennies
2.On a slightly more serious note we went to a funeral director and got a quote. We were very surprised and pleased with the figure so will be pre-paying when I get the written quote. Not at all extravagant but with a very pretty, daffodil decorated 'box'. DM pre-paid many years ago, had she not, today it would cost four or five times as much
3.DS knew I've been feeling off-ish and phoned last night. We spoke for ¾ hour about nothing and everything, I felt much better afterwards :)
4.DN's gentleman friend managed to get to the deepest corners of my loft and emptied it. Not a lot to bring down but at least there's nothing I have to wait for someone to climb up there for any more. What I do want to keep can be stored in the spare room and it's one less thing to have to ask someone to do for me
5.Cleaned the insides of the windows, washed nets, changed bedding. Looked at the garden and decided it was just too cold yet. Shame, I miss it. Hurry up Spring!

    Sleep tight :)

Oh Sparrer - hurry up spring, indeed. I loathe and detest winter - it has few redeeming features for me. Hope you feel better / chirpier soon - maybe it is seasonal?
Frith - I had rather fancied geocaching. Unfortuately many years of forcing our children to walk up hills and mountains has pretty much put them off anything outdoorsy :(
Chicken - I had my hair cut at 8.30 too, coinkydink

DD and Ampersand?????? Hope you both OK.

    Yesterdays

    1. Hair cut :D that's better
    2. Lunch out with OH, DD DS and MIL. Nice
    3. Put up the tree. No style but lots of memories as I buy a decoration (or two, or three) whenever I go on holiday or away for work. Or just see one I like.
    4. Went to OH;s choral concert in Lichfield cathedral. it was soooooooooooo, soooooooo boring. The pleasure was that it finished! :D Choral music is so not my thing, unfortunately it is so much OH's thing that he joined a choir. DS was virtually rolling round the aisle he was so bored (I did tell him off as he is 13 not 3 and should be able to sit through without disturbing others - I relented in the end and let him play on my phone under the blanket we'd brought with us to keep the chill off in the cathedral). My two were the youngest in the cathedral by some distance - I think i might have been the next youngest! :rotfl:
    5. Unfortunately MIL fell over the kerb on the way out and went sprawling. Cut to the head and broken specs. That is clearly not a pleasure but the pleasure (if that is the right word) was seeing DD spring into action with her First Aid stuff she's qualified to do - she was brilliant, even coping well with MIL's understandable self pity and shock. The other pleasure is that MIL could easily have broken a bone, but she hasn't
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • mcculloch love your posts not in the least bit boring so dont you dare apologise !! ;)

Broomstick thanks for the get well wishes. I have similar feelings of angst about my DS driving and hes only had 1 lesson :rotfl: Your DS has done really well to save the money for his first car you must be really proud and rightly so. Great news about his job too

:rotfl:couldnt help but snigger at that one ! Sorry to hear about the MIL's fall, but good that she didnt break anything.

Sparrer - good to see you back and seeming a little chirpier x

Frith - bingo, crisps, sounds like a great night :)

Me again ! Sunday bedtime and then work in the morning. I am not looking forward to it and have not felt like this for a while......anyway, a pleasant enough Sunday!

    1. DD1 joined us at the end of our bed this morning, tucked herself in and we had a good blether, she was telling us all about her difficult customers she deals with at work! She makes us laugh!

    2. Went for a Sunday lemon meringue pie and read the papers and supplements.

    3. DD2 went to the cinema using one of my cheap vouchers . She took her own juice with her rather than buying there.

    4. There were 4 parrots in our tree....they were beautiful, have never seen them there before but they were very noisy!

    5. Tidied up.....again! Then went to the air conned library and watched 2 episodes of Casualty which was just nice!

    6. Home and got all the Christmas gifts that we are bringing home out of the cupboard, sat them on the sofas, started to read a book and had a wee doze! Woke up and then made a yummy lasagne for dinner.

    7. Have sorted gifts into piles. Most have been bought in sales.

    8. Nice dinner with as usual, much laughter with the family around the table!

9 early bed.....can't handle late nights anymore!

    Enjoy your Sunday :)

Broomstick - both mt DS are insured on same car with black box and it makes them keep to speed limit - which is needed in DS2 case more and they think twice about driving after 11 at night which I am happy wit.

    1. Found some mistletoe in the fields and picked it.

    2. Tea of sausage and mash.

    3. House looking festive.

    4. I got out of seeing MIL - she complains all the time so we see her less and so she complains more. When I do internet shop for her I always get it wrong though I stick to her list.

    5. Cleand the carpet - looks far better now.

    Thanks.Ooops, BoP has a groupie :dance::dance::dance:

Sparra you missed a great game.

5 Iced the cake at last, after last week's debacle. Came out at 11lb 4 oz. Lady Black will be pleased, oh and a sticky floor to mop as well.

    s1hnwx.gif

4 Sunday service and guess what. Next week I will be chucking out single women, especially those who are pregnant. Rite sexist. Suppose the part was written for!

3 Still a bit dumped about great gamne yesterday. Best game I have seen for years and all the players deserve credit.

2 Suppose the only pleasure left for today is the pudding, spotted !!!!!!, from last week, so now for the lumpy custard.

1 Think in reversre about the Wise Monkeys. See not Bull, hear no bull, don't act like a fool!
