5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

I overheard 2 ladies at work this morning, discussing not knowing what to wear today, would it be a cold 19o or a warm 19o? Well.....it was a cold 19o! We have had a bizarre day of weather, the trees outside my work window were blowing so much & throwing off so much pollen it looked like it was a snow blizzard. My hands were cold just walking from carpark, I had a cardi on but could have done with a jacket! Lots of trees are down and house across the road had the SES (State Emergency Service) out as a tree had fallen down in their back garden, so that was a bit exciting!
1.Phoned my friend from home, she had taken my advice ,acted on it & was feeling a lot happier.
2.Not getting caught in the crazy rain showers.
3.Having a meeting with my boss to discuss my new job role. Lots of challenges ahead but a shiny new job title & salary (as oposed to hourly rate & no work=no pay)
4.Bought chips on way home as meeting went on for 2 hours so I had a chip butty for tea! Very yummy.
5.Spag bol from freezer for OH, he had been to collect another 2 school books of ebay/gumtree that were on opposite sides of the city. Nearly there with the school book hunt!
Have a lovely day.0 -
1. First post of my sixty-fourth year after anniversaire hier, which I'll call a pleasure, having driven to dinner last night with that spectacular full moon ahead of me all the way. Yes Ladyhawk - it was stunning.
2. V. early i.e. 0500h, call<France. Let it go to a'phone before deciding whether or not to answer.........spoke for a couple of hours. Felt heartened to feel alright with this. On verra.
3. At Charity yesterday, many Greetings which took me unawares, which I tried to shush and stop. When L said to a counter full of customers 'She's 21 today, all day long', I said '3 times over....'
4. 2 dozen beautiful old-perfumed roses and planty things[which people know I love]and lovely cards, totally unexpected. I have not been in this country at this time for 12 years[ref.2]
4. Long call with M. in France - her crimbo parcel has arrived at last, but she's still awaiting donkey Nina's blanket for which she paid Express postage of £55 on 14 December:eek: Heard the lovely provençal burr of Bernard also, wishing me 'Bonne fête' and asking why I wasn't there....I can survive on these bits of other Real, while not actually being there, just about.... M will send my Agenda du facteur today. I cannot do without this touchstone, but had to last year...never again.
5. Thence to dinner and champagne and mah-jongg, using my old ivory set, which was also a pleasure for P., teaching us, to handle. En couple M and P continue strongly and this gives me deep joy. Marvellous canap-'e'acute'e'-s[ref. earlier posts, MSE simply won't allow this French accent - dkw. I have asked. They don't know how to overcome it either. It's nothing to do with obscenity, naughtiness], prosciutto around asperges blanches, mushrooms with brie, poulet de Bresse, wondrous veg, an exquisite dessert using pears laid down in port by P 7 years ago. So special, such treats. Then, first of my requested indulgences, Indoor Fireworks[took them with me and the snakes caused their usual hilarity, highly gratifying]- and then THE GAME. Further, P & M can mend the carrier for the racks and all will be even weller! Was also pleased that M went mah-jongg on 1st hand, P won next 3, finishing with a fluke-y fast Triple Knitting...and I have yet to do so. A pleasure to come:D
5 again. Safe drive back and still Lady Moon, still stunning.
5 over and again...this will sound silly. Where sparrer and I bought calendars, I later saw and eventually bought myself a present of tat and I LOVE IT. While I've been tapping away here, plastic clock[tonky pretend wood surround]chirrups out birdcalls each hour, all 12 represented by a different one pictured on the dial. How I dithered over this, the old 'Shouldn't/Mustn't self-indulge/spend needlessly' kicking in until, just before crimbo, I had a Sod It! moment. How I love it[just to repeat things]and to hear those calls during some dark hours is just bliss; they lift and comfort me beyond all reason.
purplekitten - did you know that Libraries no longer charge for reserving books? Cambridge systems are marvellous now. Online anywhere, I can renew or go on a waiting list for titles. See if you can, too.
Wishing everyone a Pollyanna day today, "tomorrow is a new day, without any mistakes in it yet".

I take so long with my posts and see many more added on...it now looks as if Thanks button isn't working. Take them as read, please.
That looks a lovely winter comfort recipe broomstick, thankyou - copied.
Hmm, my car moment from Monday night[with new purple streak in hair, shall I blame that?]. Returned to P&R, key ready, marched straight to car Reg. beginning AGxxxx. I know my car begins with 'W'. Nothing daunted, carried on, tried to insert key...of course, it didn't open, then kickstarted brain and looked around, unable to see my car anywhere, except - umm - way over there? Is that really where I'd left it?

Morning
Ampersand - Happy Birthday, sounds like you had a fabulous time which is well deserved. Love the sound of the Majong set.
Kittikins - Great news to hear your Dad is ok.
Mhagster - Well done on your new job
Pleaures for yesterday,
1. DD sounding more positive at school than she has in a long time and the move of some classes has proved much better for her.
2. Free lovely lunch and champagne at work as a couple of high ranking directors are moving roles. Can't say I will miss one but the farewell lunch was good. Also got to try some Canadian sparkiling wine, as one is moving to Canada, it was very yummy. As there was quite a bit of food left from another meeting as well put some by for lunch today.
3. Voucher arriving in the post from hairdressers for 50% off colour and a free treatment. Perfect timing as I am going on Saturday, the price will still be scarily expensive though .
4. Finishing the dreaded monthly report much quicker than normal. Now just have to sort out the even worse SOX audit which is truly scary stuff.
5. Bus Driver letting me have my fare a £1 cheaper when I went to pick DD up from school as I didn't have any more change. Times when DD stays at school until 6 that you wish you had taken the easy option of the one 5 minutes away not the school miles away.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
ampersand many happy returns of yesterday
. A coincidence you should mention the calendar shop, I kept one and just opened it for myself yesterday
Mhags well done on the new salaried position, should make a lot of difference to you. What a great start to the year, new home as well
PK pulm is pulmonary rehabilitation. It's a weekly exercise class for copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) a term which covers most permanent lung conditions. Aimed at stretching the lungs to the individuals max capacity, and very similar to aerobics in sort of slow motion. On the positive side we actually laugh more than we work, generally winding up the lovely physio who runs the class. Illness (my own) annoys me so I don't live with it, it has to live with me
Broomstick I want to make your recipe  but will have to wait til I have visitors otherwise the temptation to 'not let it go off' will be too much for me! On the other hand I wonder if I could portion freeze it, I might try that
ninnoodle facebook does have some (well a few) good points, it's lovely to find old friends and catch up with each others lives
Frith hope things are better with small son after your stern voice. Lovely OH to come and lend a hand when you need it
Back later with my 5, hope it's as sunny where you are as it is here

Happy Birthday for yesterday Ampersand, you kept that quiet
Roses, scrummy food, ooooh and a game of MahJong too, you lucky thing, I love MJ, really need more than 2 of us in the house though to be able to start teaching DD (oh and I need to learn the scoring system, minor issue
)
I'm back home, safe and sound and need to go and pick up DD from school in a minute, hooooooooooooooooooooorahCan't wait to give my little cherub a big hug and lots of kisses. I think we'll be having whatever she fancies for dinner (or whatever's in the house, same difference
) and lots of cuddles

Kittikins:- Glad you are back home again and things are looking up.
I used the quiet time as everyone’s at work/school so roads quiet to my advantage and:
Popped to the tip to drop off a trailer load of greenhouse junk.
Paid in a couple of cheques received over Christmas to the post office
Posted off a couple of letters.
Received a couple of very promising job phone calls applied for 3 roles and I have one interview arranged but not until Feb as the chap is now on leave.
Popping to Asda later just have my fingers crossed for some rtc bargins if not it’s just milk and bread.
We had a letter through saying our claim for JSA is approved but they have skipped a month, I applied 24th Oct, they have started it from 26th November, I don’t understand it but it’s taken them so blumin long to sort out I’m worried that what I say will confuse them but they are missing a month. I will speak with them Friday and I am sure there will be a lot of excuses. Hey ho, honestly I have never known such a palava, I consider myself hopefully fairly intelligent but some of the waffle they come out with is just odd, honestly I could have written a sitcom about it.0 -
Good evening all!
ampersand - belated birthday wishes xx
ninnoodle - I hope that your cold goes now!
millie- naughty ponios -re the fence, I guess "Chase me Charlie" without rider was on her mind . Mine jumped out of his stable once and I only knew this because he had knocked out a plank of wood above the door frame and then jumped our mini paddock gate /fence to join the others . I thought that my friends had let him out as there was not a scratch on him:)
kittikins - glad to hear that you are back safe and sound and that you can get endless cuddles with DD.
5 for today
1.Professionals meeting today at 8.30 with a team that I will be joint working with . I went to have a brief discussion about our joint piece of work next month , but stayed for several hours. Our work "overlaps" in some areas and it is good to know this in order to avoid duplication etc.
2. Raging two day headache slowly shifting. It has got to be hormone hell
3. OH got some free tickets to Asco* via this site. I have never been to this racecourse and it is flat racing which is what I used to "do" as an apprentice jockey , so we are bound to lose
4. Sent OH out to get some grocery shopping which came to just £4.52
5. Made chicken and mushroom pancakes using a tin of mushroom soup and a left over chicken breast . We have this about once a year , if that, and it was really tasty especially when finished off with grated cheese under the grill.
Have a good evening all
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
