    Good afternoon all,

A fairly awful day here as it was the funeral of one of my colleagues who passed away just after Christmas. She was a wonderful caring woman and although it was a beautiful service, it was blummin hard to get through, lots of tears but her family held it together and were a true credit to her. She also died on the anniversary of my father's death, and same date for the funeral so it brought back lots of painful memories.
I stayed at home this afternoon and was determined not to get too down, so I am going to list the pleasures I did have today:

    1. Lots of cuddles and licks from worried doggies when I got home and had a cry - they made me feel much better.
    2. Got out in the garden, raked and swept all the leaves away and it made me feel much better to get some fresh air.
    3. Plucked the pheasants from Saturday's shoot - 1 hen to roast and took the breasts of the 4 male birds to go in the freezer.
    4. Made some beetroot brownies (river cottage recipe that I always make when I visit my sis in France, but had l/o beetroot) - they are just cooling now.
    Determined to find a fifth.......hmmmmmm....

    5. 3 birthday cards arrived in the post!

There we go - knew there were 5 to be had. The funeral today made me think even more about finding happiness in the small things in life...if we are always looking for big things then we may never find happiness...happiness is the journey and all the things we see and do along the way.

I hope you have all had a good day, have found pleasures in the people and things around you, and ((hugs)) to anyone who may need them xx

Mille pleased you're back safe and sound - and in one piece despite your back/knee mishap. Hope your OH got some good skiing in too after his back 'pinged'
Broomstick hope your son's trip is successful. I love the idea of a little sticker for nsd's, I've no little ones in the house so it would intrigue visitors ;)
Kittikins so very sorry to hear your OH is poorly, I have a rel with MS and my DD has Lupus, so I do empathise. Hoping this flare goes quickly and he has some good days ahead of him
Mhags good luck with the house-hunting, after the probs you've had so far a 'new' home is well deserved
Purple kitten thanks, definitely on the mend. I've been using the steam cleaner but without much success, in fact the rug looks grubbier than before! There's no instruction leaflet so all trial and error at the mo, but I wont give up, a small thing like no info isn't going to beat me :p. If nothing else I'm sure the steam is good for me chest! Re the job interview, I think you've made the right decision putting family first :)
Ladyhawk you're sbsolutely right to hesitate to make a further offer. It's clear from your posts you love your garden so to buy something without, would you be really happy? I would have thought you can have a social life and a wee garden, it's a big expense so I wouldn't do it if you have any doubts at all
ampersand so pleased to see you back, your #3 is the very best news, it certainly makes for an anything goes 2012. And if the city continues to be so productive it won't be long before someone's shadowing you just for the Reverbes!
Chicken I hope you're not overdoing it! And hope you're getting used to the new mattress. Reading in bed is like a sleeping pill to me, I seldom manage more than a couple of pages of even the most interesting books :)
VJsmum I do like your quote, just now and then you come across one which makes perfect sense. This is one of those :)
skintmum - bread pudding . Mustn't, it's not in my new eating plan...but oh, I do love it!
niksyg - yummy pheasant . Lucky you, enjoy them
D2BDF There's a post somewhere about making your own butter, it looks very easy if a bit tedious, so must look for reduced cream on the RTC shelves. So sorry to hear about your DM's battle, VJsmum's quote seems very appropriate for you right now :)

    1. Celebrated DGS (now 18) and DGD2 (now 15) birthday's this weekend

    2. DGS put a bet on a football match, just because he's allowed now, and won £40 :D

    3. nsd/npd

    4. Not having to turn the light on until 4.30 today, it's gradually getting lighter :)

    5. Spent part of today in the garden, burrowing in tubs for winter potatoes. A sad looking crop compared to last summer but enough for a few meals.

    6. No heating on since yesterday morning

    7. The snowdrops are up, they always make me smile

    8. Playing with the new steam cleaner which will save me money when I get the hang of it!

Have a good evening and sleep well, (((hugs)))

    Good evening,

sparrer - lovely post! Now you are back in your garden, I know that all is right with the world , and that you must be feeling a tad better?:)

d2bdf - ditto and hugs to your Mum

pk -wise choice ! your head may have been in Scotland but your heart would have been elsewhere .Good luck this week x

millie/Chemmy Alcott - hope your first day back at work wasn't too bad x

savingforoz - thanks for your kind wishes re the old hen :)

    5 for today

    1. Old hen still with us and shook most of her medicine over me this morning .

    2. Someone at work had told another person that they thought that I should come in on my day off to attend a non important meeting. They had made such a big thing about it that I made it clear to them in no uncertain terms that my time off was just that, they went very red . Meetings can be scheduled for 4 other days in the working week and my contract is from Mon-Thurs. I was steaming !!! But it has now been dealt with cleanly and swiftly.

    3. Got a lot done at work once I had "settled down" after the above .

    4. Got home and it was still light today ! The old hen seemed quite perky and squared up to a few of the youngsters , so I am assuming that she must be feeling better:)

    5. Prawn stir fry for tea- was going to be a satay but the sauce (even for my standards) was a bit "iffy" it was a dry mix and was b.before end of 2008:rotfl:

Have a good evening all !
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

    1. Got up ok at half six even though I really didn't fancy it
    2. Was pretty productive at work even though half asleep
    3. Got the second book in the Game of Thrones series from the mobile library round the corner from work
    4. Haven't spent a single penny all day
    5. Nothing booked in all evening so I can try to get an early night.

Doesn't sound like much of a day but actually it was pretty nice, given how tired I am at the moment (I'm always like this in January). My team at work are great and I laughed a lot today. I'm not feeling too isolated even though I'm not really seeing much of friends and I'm tired all the time. I'll push on through and I'll get livelier soon, and in the meantime it's really nice to have this board and this thread to remind me how lucky I am :)

    Hello! :hello:

Grr... An annoying day in the office! Grr I really loathe teflon coated, slopey shouldered jobsworths. Argh!!!!! It drives me mad!

PK - what kind of industry/ role are you looking for? Maybe we can help in some way?

Sparrer _ you are quite right... I do love my garden but I really don't think I will be able to afford something with a garden in the area I want. Well at least not one that needs loads of work.

    1) The decision on the flat was taken out of my hands... Someone offered full asking price. In cash. Who has that kind of money knocking about?? And if you know them please let me know if they are single!

    2) NSD

    3) Took a yummy salad in to work

    4) Yummy samples at work... I was a piggy!

    5) I didn't get a parking ticket despite only remember to pay for it 4 hours late! Phew!

    6) One of the lovely buyers picked up an almond croissant for me.... Nom nom nom... My favourite!

    7) Arranging two new viewings for tomorrow evening

    8) My DB2 choosing one of my photos to send round to all his friends to announce the birth of his son.
    Night night.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening everyone!!
Got myself a little Treat the takeaway book as me and hubby really want a take away when he gets paid but I dont want to spend the money so I would rather make it and it be cheaper.

I've got this, but am yet to cook anything out of it, might have a go at the weekend. We very rarely have takeaways, but I do love the odd Indian, or Chinese, or Pizza, or.... :)
Mine from today - thinking hard because I've had to wait in all day for an 8am - 8pm collection of a poorly laptop ... and guess what, nobody came

Agh- drives me nuts when that happens! Hope things are a bit better for you now x

    Frith- you sound happy :):)
niksyg and PK and anyone else in need :cuddles:
Sparrer and Chicken, thanks both xx

Lesson for the day #1: apparently you can buy too much xmas tat- even when it is a tempting 80% off in Paperchase. Who knew. Lesson of the day #2: it is always better to remember where one parked one's car before getting in a flap about said car having been stolen. Quite who would want to steal my mobile kennel/tack room, I have no idea. Anyhow, car was where I had left it, large as life. At least this time, I found it before I alerted the parking man to the "theft". Having him drive me around the carpark and point out my car where I had parked it wasn't one of my finest moments

    Mine for today

    1. Woke up early and made some choc brownies. This was after a middle-of-the-night *agggghh* moment, when I realised that I hadn't bought anything back from hols for works peeps. There is an unwritten rule that you are supposed to do this and it is Frowned Upon if you forget. Presented choc brownies and muttered something about "nothing to buy in ski resorts, etc". They were demolished anyhow :)
    2. Was good to catch up with everyone, good news from Nice Lady that she had a +ve oncology appointment last week :)
    3. Helped out a student who was very distressed- she seemed less distressed when she left me, I am convinced it was the left-over-from-xmas Quality Street that helped with the distress, that and my (now rusty) counselling skills and dippy attitude to univ Policies and Procedures.
    4. Another  moment, when I realised that it is Mrs Ponycarer's birthday on Wed. Did an exit-stage-left to the City Centre and flapped around, trying to find something suitable. Ventured into a posh shop (so posh, I forget the name) and found her a bargain scarf for £8!! The lovely shop assistant even wrapped it in a very posh wrapper and bag, so I don't have to wrap it. Then I bought her some White Company smellies from the ponies and (not a bargain, but she is worth it).
    5. Then got sucked into Paperchase and happened upon their RTC Xmas tat section- this was the point that all hell broke loose. Gorgeous tags for 25p!! Reduced from £2+, cards, wrapping, ribbon, gift boxes, all similarly reduced. Would have been rude not to stock up. All now stashed [STRIKE]before OH sees it and goes mental [/STRIKE] for next Xmas. This counts as OS, as, errr has saved lots of money
    6. Located car (doofus) and drove home singing to Radiohead. Animals all done for me when I got in, so I donned PJs and made some fasta pasta (pasta with passata) and I am currently amazing myself with all of the questions I can't answer on Univ Challenge.

    Evening all.

bupster - I know exactly how you feel at this time of year - I also spend every January fighting through constant weariness. :(

We also had very sad news at work today that a colleague's brother died unexpectedly on NYD - none of us had met him, but it's still nasty when someone so young dies (he can only have been in his 40s :().

    Anyway, five for today:

    1) Picked up a carton of RTC soup to go with my sandwich for lunch, plus a few other bits I needed to get anyway and managed to save a few pennies on. :money:

    2) Rejoined the OS weightloss thread - I'm rather annoyed at myself for having put on enough weight to need it, but they're such a friendly bunch it's not too painful.

    3) A very tasty veggie cobbler for dinner.

    4) An early night tonight, and I get a short lie-in tomorrow as I've got a doctor's appointment (I'm having a contraceptive implant put in, as I can't take the pill anymore - I can't say I'm looking forward to having a hole poked in my arm ).

    5) Cuddles with mog, which is why it's taken me 20 minutes to type this brief post. ;)

    Have a pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all

niksyg, love the pheasants. We eat them sometimes, prefer to chicken really as cos we keep hens for eggs seems a bit wrong to eat their sisters! Plus at £7.50 for 3 from our local butchers they made a fab and very cheap xmas dinner!

Not sure I can run to 5 today but here goes:

    1. Made HM bread
    2. Lunch and tea from freezer and stores
    3. Used a compare site for application for term assurance to cover mortgage. Off to underwriters now but went for cheapest so fingers crossed. Also tried Quidco but was more expensive even taking into account the rebate so just went with money supermarket suggestion.
    4. Wrote OH a list of stuff to do which includes some MSE stuff for the weekend ( does that count, delegating I mean??!:rotfl:)
    5. Freebies received from bakers which are now stashed in freezer. Thanks guys

    Have a good eve all

Somewhat stressed today but trying to maintain the positive focus so here goes:

1/ Asking a favour of a lovely neighbour who gave me a lift to physio at a moment's notice when I misread the bus timetable. She was so genuinely pleased to be able to help me out - I was really touched and felt I got to know her better in a 15 minute journey than in all these years living in the same road. Special!
2/Meeting many lovely fellow MS-ers (that's folk with Multiple Sclerosis in my vocabulary these days, nothing to do with moneysaving!) at a physiotherapy group. I'm already looking forward to next week, even though it was harder work than I'd anticipated.
3/home-cooked pork with cider sauce (we had a particularly sober Christmas) with leftover herby mash meeting with DH's approval - I almost felt like a domestic goddess!

Struggling to find others today on account of much of the day being taken up with stress, physio and working online from home. But I'll try to enjoy the simple things on my way to the office tomorrow. Sleep tight all and have a modestly pleasure-filled day tomorrow.

    Evening

Niksyg - hugs to you, anniversarys are always difficult as the best of times never mind combined with a funeral

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Free lunch at work as there was some nice sandwiches left from a meeting so will save the soup I had taken with me for another day.
    2. Popped into Waitrose as they were reducing the Lindt Bears down to 15p each and as the best before is 05/12 bought 5. These will do for easter as they don't look christmasy. Very pleased with my little haul and are hidden away so OH and DD can't eat them.
    3. Another announcement at work today of some high level changes. I'm hoping that as my boss has taken on more responsibility is makes my job a bit more secure, fingers crossed.
    4. Tasty chicken and bacon pie for dinner. Was hoping there would be some left but no it was all eaten. Made some cheese and pepperoni straws with left over pastry which taste quite nice but in DD's words look dodgy:o
    5. Big pile of ironing done this morning hopefully will get more done tomorrow.

Hugs to all who need them
    5.
