    2) Gave the kitchen floor a much-needed wash. (Isn't it amazing the things that seem more fun than writing an essay? :o)

CCP - :rotfl:mine was cleaning out the kitchen cupboards

Savingforoz- your foster cat does sound a cutie - scalp eating and all :D

    vjsmum:bdaycake:happy birthday !
sparrer - thanks for the sellotape advice :) Not sure why I didn't think of it :o

Frith - was Father Frith on Countryfile tonight ??

    5 for today

    1. OH let the hens out so I had a nice lie in .

    2. The washing dried on the line - a miracle at this time of the year :)

    3. Cheeky siesta at lunchtime;) Ladyhawk .

    4. Made a chicken and mushroom pie . Filling cooked in the slow cooker , left over pastry turned in to cheese straws -all bendy veg used up . Tasted great.

    5. Now eating copious amounts of roasted Macadamias . Yum. I could do with putting a few pounds on :)

Have a great evening all x

MSE won't let me thank anyone! Don't know why, hoping I can post at all...

Chickenopolis re: Countryfile - I don't know! I'll ask mum tomorrow because they never miss it. Both he and brother worked at the holly market. Dad is 6 foot 4, wears a flat cap and would have been wearing a bright green fleece with "Brightwells" on it. Brother would stand out because he is only 28, 6 foot 4, wears glasses and would have been wearing a black Worcester Warriors woolly hat!

Haven't updated for a few days so random pleasures in some sort of chronological order...

    1) (Friday) Got house nice and tidy.

    2) MrB came over after lunch :-)

    3) Went to smaller son's clarinet show at school. The whole class has been learning it together and he is getting on well. In contrast to when he was in the Christmas play, he joined it, looked relaxed and smiley and even had a joke with the girl sitting next to him between songs!

    4) MrB came with me to the clarinet show and we collected the boys from school. In 7 years of school runs, it is the only time I have had a partner with me (I left my ex husband when my sons were 1 and 4 so have always done it all myself). Quite strange to be standing with another adult on the school playground!

    5) Roast beef for dinner on Friday.

    6) Saturday - bit of a lie in.

    7) Boys went to their father's so had an easy day.

    8) MrB went home and I went round there after I had got organised here.

    9) Watched the final of Strictly.

    10) Sunday - bit of a lie in.

    11) MrB was busy so walked in his city centre and looked round the cathedral - haven't been in there for many years.

    12) Watched MrB's bigger son decorate the tree.

    13) Drove home without incident, very cold.

    14) Sons back from their father's.

    Evening

VJs mum - Happy Birthday :bdaycake:

    Pleasures for the last couple of days;
    1. Been given a few prizes for the raffle at work so now up to £100 raised for charity. Hoping to get it to £150
    2. Cheese and Biscuits and a glass of wine for lunch on Friday in the office. Was the left overs from someones leaving do, very pleasant way to spend a Friday lunch time
    3. Night out yesterday to the pantomine in Richmond. Tickets were bought on a special offer for a tenner each. The only problem was we were in the front row of the gods. I am not good with heights especially balconies . Was ok once the show started and had something to focus on but hate the bit before it starts and the interval.
    4. Low spend day yesterday, only bought train tickets to get to Richmond and for these we used the family railcard. Am so going to miss using this next year as DD will be too old. Took our own drinks and sweets to the theatre.
    5. Nice chat with SIL on phone today, made some arrangements for christmas.
    6. Getting DD some smoked salmon (bleugh) RTC in tesco. She had it with some pasta for dinner tonight which is one of her favourites and there is enough for another generous portion in the freezer for another day.
    7. Watching Willie Wonka on TV today with DD curled up under a duvet
    8. My guilty pleasure now of watching Micheal Buble on TV with a glass of wine.

Hugs to all who need them
  • Happy birthday VJsmum! :bdaycake: Sounds like you've been having a great day!

    Mine for today:

    1. Woke up to proper snow! :j I didn't see it fall but it stayed on the ground all day - we had about an inch. The first snow of the winter!

    2. Had the day pretty much to myself as my OH had to drive down to Glasgow to collect his dad who lives abroad and had decided at the last minute to come over for Christmas and New Year

    3. Dyed my hair, waxed my legs and had a lovely long bath

    4. Made 'Skye Shortbread' from another thread on OS. I love baking while listening to good tunes on the radio.

    5. My neighbour invited me out to a carol service at her church. It was lovely, really enjoyable.

Warm thoughts to all and belated happy birthday, VJsmum!

My five for another day and a half or so...

    1. Really good haircut on Saturday. Am very pleased with it indeed. As usual it's plain and easy and short so that I won't have to go back for several months.

    2. The wreath got finished, looks good, and is now attached to the front door (and hasn't fallen off yet!):D

    3. Made generous double helpings of our favourite cheesy, eggy, potato and onion bake for supper tonight. Full tummies and clean plates all round and that's tomorrow night's meal dealt with as well.

    4. I'm really pleased that we are still on track for emptying the fridge by Wednesday with next to no waste.

    5. Went for a walk with DS1 in town and visited a craft market but didn't buy anything. It was just nice to spend time together talking.

    Sweet dreams

ninnoodle- I saw this too! What is it like please? I should imagine it is (don't laugh) very white and crunchy due to the cornflour and icing sugar .

Yes, white and crunchy! I usually use golden sugar in my shortbread so it is sort of caramel -like. This was nice though, and I think would be lovely with halfs dipped in melted chocolate as suggested.
  • Good evening all!

ninnoodle - thank you re the white crunchy shortbread ! I may give it a go later this week .

Frith- its good to hear that things are going well for you and Mr.B :) .

    5 for today
    1. Site visit started at 8am , wish they would all start this early !

    2. My boss said that I was entitled to a concessionary day off over Christmas . I said that as I now work part time I did not think that I would be eligible to do so anymore . He said I could take it anyway :) I have soooo much annual leave left, what is a girl to do? :)

3.Forrest ( as in Gump) the hen came out in the dark and the rain to meet me when I got home this evening , she was all soggy and expected a marvellous treat for venturing out in the rain :)

4.Quorn lasagne and a few chips for tea.

    5. James Herriott is on again tonight . Not so keen on him despatching the horse who had "Set Fast" storyline last night -I know its not real, the orange horse is an actor etc- but thats just me ;). I loved the books and the 70's tv series so I will give it another go !

Have a good evening all !

    5 for today (so far)

    1) Penultimate day at school for sons.

    2) Laptop regarded as beyond repair by PCWorld so got a voucher to the same value. Went in and chose a new one (£200 off) and will be collecting it tomorrow. :-)

    3) Hopefully the last blast round Sainsburys. Got sons the traditional new pyjamas they always have on Christmas Eve.

    4) Brother popped round briefly.

    5) Went to the doctors to get my blood test results and for a "ladies appt". Not really a pleasure but that's that for another 3 years.

    6) Letter from smaller son's paediatrician confirming that he is getting everything sorted out re: school helping smaller son a bit more.

    7) Funny evening because someone who went to primary school with me is a contestant on Come Dine With Me this week!
  • Funny evening because someone who went to primary school with me is a contestant on Come Dine With Me this week!

Oooh, will check that out, love CDWM! Friend was on a it a few years back and they edited it to make her look like an evil cow, so not sure I would be brave enough :D

Funny day here- don't seem to have acheived much! Got sent to claim my overdue phone upgrade, so that OH can have my old one. Phones just don't do it for me, so I was beyond bored!!

Let's see if I can get to 5!! (won't be terribly OS though, as involved spending money!)

    1. Mini lie in til 8am, woke up naturally, no nasty alarm!!
    2. Free day, so decided to pop to Solihull (localish town) with Mum for a mooch (and to upgrade pesky phone)
    3. Was treated to lunch in John Lewis - we shared a crepe and side salad, was v nice!!
    4. Needed new leggings, as current ones have a hole in an inappropriate place *cough*, found them in Zara children's dept - cheapy!!
    5. Also needed new ski gloves, found some v v v reduced in TK maxx, so with my new bargain silk liners, my fingers will be toasty warm :D
oh and 6. Treated myself to a gorgeous bangle, inscribed with "live like it's heaven on earth". Again, not very OS, but something I need to be reminded of on a daily basis, therefore it will make me happier :D

Off to [STRIKE]throw new phone out of window[/STRIKE] ask OH nicely if he will figure how to transfer my contacts over. Because I would rather poke my own eyes out than read the (boring) manual....
