Hmmm, nope sorry that doesn't work.:D I'll take hot over cold anyday. 2 years ago I took group of students to Dubai in March after the long cold winter and, as i stepped out of the airport into warmth and sunshine, it was all i could do not to burst into tears ( literally, i was swallowing hard). I chuffin hate winter so much.
    .

I am the same - I loathe winter. Where I grew up it would occasionally get up to 42 degrees C in. Summer! I am happy with the upper twenties, to mid thirties :) but not in London though - public transport is grim at that temperature.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hiya,

Had a stunningly busy day yesterday which made me feel very virtuous but I forgot to post!

Five for the last couple of days then:

    1. Am sitting here with a such a big bowl of porridge and golden syrup for brunch that I think it might meet the calorific needs of an adult female for a whole day. I wasn't paying attention about quantities when I put it on to cook.:D

    2. Picked an armful of rosemary to add to the front door wreath and everywhere is now rosemary scented.

    3. Made a good lentil soup for yesterday's lunch using up the water (stock) from the steamer and the end of the carrot and spud mash from the previous night's supper as well as the usual ingredients. The smell of lentil soup reminds me so much of living in Scotland thirty years ago when we lived on it for months through the winter. It's one of those smells that teleports me to another place!

    4. Wrapped all the family's presents that have been bought/delivered. Am waiting for a few more then that's it. It's not a big pile of pressies but it looks very pretty.

    5. Have sorted out meals that will empty the fridge completely before the vegbox delivery on Wednesday. I also think that we will have cleared the freezer too so am planning on defrosting that over Christmas time. We won't need it this year.

Off to have a haircut. I manage on an average of three to four trips to the hairdresser a year but I've been putting it off and this one is months overdue.

    Keep warm

well, we will have to agree to disagree on heat! I just think I am a Scottish girl through & through & my body is just not meant to cope with heat!

1.A walk prior to Saturday scone! We keep saying we'll go for a walk round park near where we go (as in nearly a year!) but today I took proper shoes with me to walk in.....was already 25o at 9am.

2.Not too many bargains with today's shopping, however did get a ham for Christmas dinner that was 1/2 price (even though BB date was Feb'2012) so bought 2, one for next week & one for freezer.

3.Home and made frozen yoghurt & tried to freeze custard I bought the other day on a stupid whim. There was a recipe for a vanilla custard ice cream so thought I'd cut out the middle man & plonked the tub in the ice cream maker......not sure how it will taste!

4.Was 32o so had a wee snoozey siesta.....I am really such a wimp in the heat.

5.Just in at 11.30pm from an evening at the beach. Boys went cycling, girls & I had our books & towels ,then people watched when it got dark. Still 28o.....will be a hot night .

6.Had popped into Salvo's & got a clutch bag for DD2's prom & a brand new pair of sandals for me .....kind of birkenstock-y lookie likeys!

7.Chat with best friend, mum & in laws who were happy to tell me it's snowing!

    Have a good one!
  • :wavey: everyone, hope you are all ok :D

Not very OS day, as we went to buy new skis for OH  as his old ones are..old- but they were an xmas pressie from his Mum :)

    Mine for today

    1. V heavy frost here this morning and everywhere looked stunning at first light. Oldie isn't allowed out in the frost, so she had to make do with room service, which Wasn't Good Enough, so she stood with her head over the door, complaining loudly to anyone in the vicinity!!
    2. The other two had a cavort around the field :D
    3. Went out with OH to get said skis, managed to get some silk liner gloves for a bargain price! ~Tried on some new boots, but decided I couldn't face breaking them in, so shall stick with my bargain 30euro, 11 year old (childrens) boots. They must have cost me about 2 euro/year- far cheaper than hiring them!! :D
    4. Dragged OH into Ikea with the promise of meatballs (yak) and he did his own version of Man vs. Food with 20 meatballs (double yak). Got a few bargains in Ikea (things I *needed* like tealights and a gingerbread house for friend's children for £2.25)
    5. Caught some of About a Boy on TV- love that film, but it always makes me cry!

Planning to watch a film tonight- have instructed OH to find something that I have never seen and that he knows I will enjoy, with my goldfish-like attention span. We shall see!!

Hugs to anyone in need xx

    Evening all.

mhagster - I have to confess that I'm another fan of hot weather - I never really feel warm until the temperature passes 30.

savingforoz - my mog also has the tendency to nip - unfortunately he doesn't always appreciate the difference between an affectionate nip and biting hard enough to draw blood.

    1) A very long lie-in this morning. This was the last morning until after Christmas that I could sleep as long as I liked without having to get up and be somewhere, so I was determined to make the most of it.

    2) A nice chat on the phone with my DSis, although I'm slightly regretting letting her talk me into phoning my great-aunt at some point this week - I know it's the humanitarian thing to do for a lonely old lady, but I can't escape the fact that we've never really liked each other. :undecided

    3) My essay is about three-quarters done - all it needs are an introduction and a conclusion, and some tidying up of the wording in some places: if I'm not sure what I mean, my poor tutor's got no hope! :rotfl:

    4) Mooched up to the shops this morning to get a couple of bits, then mooched back this afternoon when I realised that the discount for a multi-buy offer hadn't come off my receipt. It was only 60p (although they rounded it up to £1 'for my trouble' :T), but it was the principle of the thing. (And an excuse to get away from my essay for 20 minutes. ;):o)

    5) I've made a HM quiche, completely from scratch - even the pastry, which I usually buy. :A I just hope it doesn't end up with the same slightly crunchy, eggshell-y texture that my last one did - breaking eggs isn't my strong skill in the kitchen. :o

    6) Spotting Who Framed Roger Rabbit on iplayer - one of my favourite films, so I know what I'm watching tonight. :D

Have a very pleasant Saturday evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
  • Good evening all !

ooooh its lovely to read all of your Christmas "nesting" posts.

mhagster- sorry to hear that you are melting .

millie - poor oldie - I am sure that she will find a way of "punishing you" as she had the hump at being left in .She is probably plotting right this minute....

    8 for today

    1. Lie in as OH let the hens out. My old hen was picking on Maggie , so Maggie is back in solitary for her own good and I can monitor how much she is eating . Old hen and her maran friend just stood outside Maggie's coop all day looking at her .Chickens are odd.

    2. Had my hair cut -I now have an angular choppy bob and I can now SEE !:)

    3. I made some parsnip and lemon soup . The recipe was found on the Superscrimpers thread on this site . OH loved it , I thought it was like eating hot lemon curd -bleugh . Still it all went.

    4. Sent OH out shopping as I find it too tiring trying to walk and weave in and out of crowds . Not great for the sensory impaired . Purchased the Soap and Glo** offer on this site for a present for one of my sisters and had a voucher for £3 worth of points if I spent £30 . I needed some make up so this brought up the total to £30:)

    5. Presents all wrapped up ! I NEVER want to find the end of the sellotape again -I have no thumbnails left and life is just too short:rotfl:

    6. A Christmas Carol has just finished - I love any Dickens film or book at anytime of the year.

7.Saw my lovely brother this afternoon - we all have really long arms and he was trying on a coat that my OH wanted to give him and I though that he looked like a primate in it :rotfl:He was torn..

8 . OH is in the process of making chocolate truffles . Not my cup of tea , hope he leaves the kitchen clean and not Wonka like ...

Have a good evening all !
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

I'm Scottish too and love the winter....but I feel the cold really quickly! I'm sitting with a slanket, blanket, log fire and oil heater on and am still a bit chilly! :D Saying that, I've never got the big deal about being somewhere just for the heat. Sure, it's pleasant but I looove the winter with all the scarves, snow, hot toddies.

    1. Went round to a friend's for a lovely lunch
    2. We went round the charities where I got some books and a couple of nice tops
    3. We stopped off and had a Christmas pudding latte with a mince-and-whisky pie - heated up and served with cream - heaven!
    4. We also ducked into the pub for a 'warming' glass of wine
    5. Came out and it was snowing - magical! It didn't last!

  • savingforoz- I love the sound of your three legged foster cat - I am a sucker for pets and people who are a little "unusual" . It would make me want to own it and love it even more :D !!

Remember, Chickenopolis, cats own humans and not the other way around :D. Tinker is obviously convinced that the only reason for my existence is to be her personal maidservant.

I love the fact that you have a hen called Maggie - my real name!

Ninnoodle - Tinker is one naughty girl! If I don't get up promptly enough to get her breakfast, she starts nibbling the tops of my ears. I tried to ignore her this morning and pulled my head under the duvet, so she started chewing on my scalp instead. That was definitely painful enough to propel me out from under my nice warm duvet. It's a good job she's cute...

    My pleasures for today:

    1. Making a batch of thick, delicious and warming lentil soup for lunch, eaten with slices of homemade bread.

    2. Sorting my clothes out and finding something for the charity shop, as well as stuff to mend.

    3. Catching some extra sleep in the afternoon with Tinker Puss keeping my legs warm. She has some uses, I suppose!

    4. A friend sending me four free passes for the gym I used to go to before I went off travelling. I'll use the first one this Wednesday.

    5. Getting lots done today, including stuff I'd scheduled for tomorrow. So more free time to enjoy Sunday lunch at the pub!

    6. Feeling great all day long!

    7. Giving in to the cold weather and spending a day at home, hence managing to get lots done.

    8. Carrying on editing my novel - should finish this round of revision by the end of December.

    9. Getting a favourable email about a short story I wrote ages ago.

    10. Slobbing all day in my pyjamas. A guilty pleasure, I know!

Hugs to those who need them.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Welcome skintmum, and good for you for finding the forum, which I think is the most comprehensive MS forum ever :)
Kittikins the house purchase is getting quite exciting, I look forward to reading your report of each day's progress :D
Millie seems you feel the same as me about those meatballs, had them a couple of months ago but they just didn't do anything for me. Love all their candles though, I was like a kid in a sweet shop in that dept!
Chicken re sellotape - I do my wrapping at the kitchen table, start by sticking the end of the tape to the edge of the table and cutting strips about 2 inches long, all along the table edge. That way I don't let go of the tape on the reel, and when I have a couple of dozen pieces turn the corner of the tape in onto itself. If that all makes sense! Sorry, bit late to tell you now :o

    1. woken by dog hacking away, phoned DD who heard him and said 'kennel cough, Benylin'. Off to the pharmacy who were very reluctant to sell me any, knowing I don't have ethol, and it would clash with my other meds. Had a quiet word with the pharmacist and explained, he laughed and allowed me to buy a bottle.

    2. First dose went all over the floor, second on me, third on his coat, fourth all over the loo cystern - don't ask! Eventually got about 1/2 a teasp down his throat. Phew! In the morning I'm going back to the pharmacy for a syringe, that should sort him out :p. DD used to give it to her horses, they lapped it up so why can't he?!

    3. Wrote cards and did some wrapping for 4 birthdays just days either side of Christmas. Having got that out of the way I can start on the rest, but why do I seem to buy the most awkward shaped items to wrap?!

    4. Quite mild today, no heating til this evening then just for a couple of hours. The £3.50 fleece recommended on another thread is so warm that
I had to throw it off after a short while

    5. Watched Strictly, thoroughly enjoyed it and pleased I didn't have to judge it, they were all so good

    Sweet dreams :)
