Hi all,
First time on this thread
My good things today have been:-
1. A good night sleep, first in a good while
2. Spending the day baking/cooking
3. Popping over to our elderly neighbors (90+) and giving them some HM Potato and leek soup and some HM flapjacks and being asked in for a cup of tea - it turns out that they knew my OH,s Dad and Grandad, his Dad passed away when OH was 4 so really special to hear some stories about him, OH was very emotional, and is currently hiding in the shed, doing 'work' - will leave him for a while before seeing if he,s ok.
Always thought you can,t over estimate the older generation and today has proved that in spades xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
Some lovely pleasures on here this weekend
Mine.......
1. NSD on Friday, hoorah!
2. Lots of vino on Friday night with OH and a friend who came to stay for the weekend
3. Said friend was happy doing the gardening without me yesterday, as I was a little bit delicate after the wine......oops!
4. Watched Strictly and, for the first and probably last time of the season, X Factor last night.
5. Bought lots of YS cartons of milk and some other cheapy goodies yesterday.
6. Even though I'm "never" drinking again, I bought a bottle of cheapy but nice looking wine just in case anyone wanted a glass last night...oddly enough, we didn't!!
7. DD and I went to a local fun afternoon and bumped into some chums. Also bought some scrumptious and cheap tomatoes and runner beans, nomnomnom.
8. DD and I are going through her toy box and have a nice selection of goodies to pass on to a friend with a little girl. Trying to make space for a piece of furniture to go back into her room rather than taking up space in mine.....here's hoping we'll finish the sorting out before the end of the week......at least in her room
9. Saw OH again this afternoon as he'd forgotten something chez moiand then saw his lovely friend who came over for a cup of tea, and are planning a night out with him and his wife
10. The sunshine - and getting the washing dry!
11. Attempting to do some decluttering -- for about 30 minutes on Friday, the house was tidy and clean. Now it looks like a bomb's hit it again *sigh* but I know it can be done and have a couple of boxes of goodies for the charity shop.
12. Looking forward to having apple and blackberry crumble in a moment0 -

Welcome to the thread - hope you find it cathatic and as special as the rest of us. What a special afternoon for your OH.
I am feeling sorry for myself today after rather a lot of wine last night. In the end 6 people cancelled at the last minute... so it ended up being very... exclusive! Unfortunately one of my friend's had her bag nicked which put a dampener on things
1) I have been exceptionally lazy... and have been sprawled on the sofa, wrapped in my duvet all day. Disgraceful! But I have enjoyed it!
2) NSD
3) The rugby this morning... and chatting to some friends back home on BBM... almost as good as being there with them.
4) Bowl of porridge for brekkie
5) Picking some strawberries that had been ignored by the slugs and digging up some potatoes for my potato and courgette soup
Have a great week

PS... just got an email from my SIL... I have another nephew on the way!! I was convinced she was going to have a little girl. So that is the biggest pleasure of the dayMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
My five happy events of the day.
1. I did laundry and it blow dried on the line in an hour! PLUS it was my sons NEW school uniform out there waving in the wind. We have been battling to move him for 11 months and finally on Tuesday we got a place in the school we wantedSo happy.
2. DH and I picked the hazelnuts off our tree, first time it has had enough to pick since DH planted it. Last year we got three - this year we got 26! ok so it won't change the world, but it was lovely. The tree is home to about 20 little shieldbugs too, unusual little things and quite enchanting.
3. I got to the bread rack in ASDA just as the Reducing-Lady got there, doughnuts, croissants and danish - 10p a pack
4. I picked some blackberries off our bramble and fed them to our chickens. The little girls are so excited by blackberries.
5. I picked some pears off our tree and DH picked some beans and we both pulled up onions. I took some tomatoes out fo the garden and I stood for a lot longer than I needed to really looking at it all in the kitchen: pears, hazelnuts, blackberries, onions, beans and tomatoes. All free and all ours.
I love this time of year!
Peace and love guys xxxx"There is no substitute for time."

Evening all
Mine for today
1. bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast
2. watching the rugby. Would have been nice if wales had won but they played really well so am happy with that. maybe next time...
3. Got insect repellant for holiday next year reduced from £10.99 to £2.74 :money: Going back next week to get some more for sil.
4. Had a gert lush roast for tea with lots of chicken left overs.
5. A lovely sunny morning. was quite windy so got clothes dried and back in before the rain started.0 -
I think I might need to subtract one pleasure as the homemade tripe dog treats we bought at the aformentioned food festival are now stinking the house out- yak. And I have a horrible feeling that they may disagree with the dog and this will only make the stink worse. Gas mask please0

Good evening all
It is nice to read about other peoples foraged / home grown produce. It still amazes me each and every time that I have managed to grow something good enough to eat. It feels very "harvest festivally" at the moment
ampersand -glad to see that you are back !!! Not so glad to hear that your are unwell and have been burgled:( Please get well soon.
Ladyhawk- sorry to hear that your evening did not go as planned. I am glad to hear that you will be an Aunt again soon:) Oh and its nearly Tuesday woo hoo !
millie- I guess all of your windows will be left open tonight;)
5 for today
1. After not getting to sleep until about 2am (full moon has this effect :rotfl::rotfl:) and needing to be up at 6am to let the hens out- I went back to bed and had a long lie in and was woken up with a nice cup of builders tea by OH . Then another cup and another ...
2. My brother and neice came round to see my Mum (next door) and brought freshly baked cookies .
3. I resisted the temptation to give my lovely neice her birthday present early , which is on the 29th. I can't keep a secret and everyone who knows me, knows this to be true. It's torture.
4.Cooked a roast for tea and had beans and courgettes from the garden.I really enjoyed it but OH left most of his and I am not sure why I bother sometimes as cooking everything from scratch is very labour intensive for just me- the hens will be very happy with their breakfast in the morning though.
5.Hens put themselves to bed at 7.45pm - who made it winter already?? Once they are all locked up safely and a head count has been undertaken I can then relax.
Good night all:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening
Ampersand - Get well Now
Pleasures for today;
1. Savoury pancakes for breakfast, DD and OH also had a couple of sweet ones as well. Made a couple of extra for DD to have tomorrow for breakfast. She would eat pancakes everyday if allowed.
2. Popped over to inlaws new house and came away with a bag of cooking apples and a bag of pears off their fruit trees.
3. Also went to inlaws old house which they are trying to clear ready for move. DD came away with a few crafty bits plus some of her old toys which we will ebay
4. Got home much later than expected so didn't have time to do the roast chicken planned but in true MSE style managed to make a pan of HM sausage and pasta soup which everyone enjoyed.
5. Loaf of bread just out of bread maker for tomorrows lunches plus some of the apple cooked down ready to be used in crumbles / eves puddings.
Hugs to all who need them0 -

C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Welcome lovely newbies, and welcome back ampersand - get well now
. Sorry to hear of your 'adventure', sounds miserable. I hope it won't have any lasting effect
1. Good drive down to DM, left at 7am so very little traffic. Tred to fill up before I went but the two petrol stations I passed weren't even open - slackers. However when I reached my destination it was 4p a litre cheaper than home so a bit of a bonus
2. Met my DB, DSiL and several other members of the family at a restaurant on the Thames at Maidenhead for lunch. It was DB & DSiL's 40th wedding anniversary, there are few of those these days! The meal had a 'designer' touch so was very interesting.
3. DSiL's 60th birthday later this week so as well as the restaurant decorating the tables and giving excellent service they also made her a beautiful two tier cake with candles and sparklers
4. The huge '4' and '0' balloons I bought lasted until we arrived - then the 0 burst. However one of the guests was going to take it to repair and refill. Clever guest
5. Good run home, exhausted but it was well worth the early rising and long day.
Night night, sweet dreams
