Morning Eeryone,
Chicken - the Horse trials didn't go quite to plan and I really wish I hadn't bothered! I was there with a famous rugby player (who does some promo wrk for the company I work for) and his fiancee and a competition winner and his wife. Well, I thought this should be bearable and then I can go off to watch the horses. I arrived at the hospitality tent at 12... (drinks reception started at 11.30am and lunch was bein served at 12.30). The rugby player turned up at 12.45 and said oh we're not staying for lunch, "we're just going to use this as a base for the rest of the day"... "I haven't been scheduled to have lunch" and then left me sitting there at the table for 5 by myself. The fact that we had paid for them both to have hospitality tickets should have given him a clue that he was expected to have lunch with us! The staff were so sweet and people kept looking at me. So I called someone from work who I knew was going to be there and she and her 3 friends joined me for lunch and we had a nice time. The competition winner then turned up at 2pm (when lunch was scheduled to end) and expected to be fed... but we had already eaten it! What a complete farce!
Then my train back into London was delayed by 40 minutes, which meant that I missed my connection at Peterborough. I could have got the next connection but it took them a couple of minutes to open the doors and despite about 20 of us legging it to get to the next train which was stll on the platform, they refused to let us on it. So I had to wait another 40 minutes! Which then made me late for my wine tasting at Vinopolis.... Grrr!!! Anyway we had a nice evening and a nice dinner so it turned out ok in the end.
1) Having ample time to read my book (Catch-22 which I really think I am just not quite "getting")
2) Nice drinks and conversation at the wine tasting and dinner
3) My colleague and her friend's rescuing me and turning out to be really lovely and good company
4) Resisting the oh so gorgeous coat that I tried on in Stamford on the way to the horse trials... I am glad they were only accepting cash otherwise I would have bought it!
5) Buying my nephew a little present because it was just too cute (its a litte blue donkey)
Enjoy your Sunday

1.oh! just for a change an early rise! However, had went to bed very early last night so had actually had a good 9 1/2 hour sleep! Lovely phone call with my niece, she's getting to that tired & awkward stage of pregnancy with just a couple of weeks to go.
2.We had rolls & sliced sausage for breakfast. A wee taste of home!
3.Funny day weather wise, very windy but mild. Looked like it should be chilly but wasn't. Got all my throws & blankets off sofas washed & dried in no time. Moved photo frame displays around and generally pottered about . But felt nice to potter! Kids did their bedrooms & OH sprayed beastie spray around all the skirting boards in the bedrooms. Getting to spider/beastie time again
4.Made a banana loaf (most yummy!),on Friday I bought a bag of very ripe bananas in a fruit shop at end of day for $3.00. I have managed to get 3 portions of mashed bananas for banana loaves from this. Bananas continue to be so expensive so nice to get a bargain! Also made a lemon drizzle cake with my lemons in my cheap bag of fruit & veg.
5. Corned beef hash made with spuds from cheap bag!0 -
1- the sun is shining
2- taking the bus to and from t3sco (and it was on time both ways) and managing to get everything i needed in record time
3- getting some towels out on the line, thus saving on tumble drying or having them airing over the banister
4- feeling relaxed and optimisitic about the new term at school starting tomorrow, even though it means the end of the summer holidays
5- reading a good thriller outside in the sun with a cup of tea and a toasted teacake (from t3sco - 12 for £1)0 -
Strange times - it feels like the holidays are over yet they aren't quite as kids not back till Tuesday. Kind of wish it was tomorrow, yet need tomorrow to get them sorted. Doesn't really make sense but it all adds up to me being a little out of sorts.
Anyways mine for yesterday
1. Lovely niece saying she'd had the best week of her life, feel honoured that we gave her that.
2. A night in with nothing expected of me
3. Starting to get house tidied
Hmm, seems to be all for now - will get back into the habit soonI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Evening all.
I have to confess to having been shockingly lazy today, but I've been busy for the past few weeks so I guess I deserve it for once.
1) Not needing to go anywhere or do anything - particularly nice given how foul the weather's been for much of the day (the rain's stopped now but it's still very windy).
2) NSD.
3) Picked a handful of HG French beans and another of cherry tomatoes (actually only 4 of each, but I've got small hands).
4) Watching the highlights of Burley this afternoon. (I'm sorry you had such a bad time yesterday, Ladyhawk - it's even more disappointing when you've been looking forward to something, isn't it?)
5) Getting a cold beer out of the fridge just now - bought while on special offer, of course! :money: - a special treat on a work night.
As always, have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
1. Went to have my morning shower and realised I'd taped the bubble wrap to the window frame ! Had to take the whole lot off so I could open the window, will have to replace it on the actual window next time
2. Stopped at the farm shop for dog/cat food on my way to meet friends, managed to come out of there £28 lighter. How do I do it every time, I hate that farm shop! Mind you I did get lots of pansies for the baskets and some beautiful sunflowers for the dining table
3. Lovely friend gave me some Mr M flower buckets so I can try my hand at winter potatoes. Am going on a hunt for some seed potatoes tomorrow, a little late but I'm determined to get some somewhere
4. Amazing rain which gave everything a good soaking (and got the dust off the car), then lovely sunshine for the rest of the day which showed the garden at its best
5. Bought a marrow at the farm shop, have taken some braising steak out of the freezer to mince and will make a tomato-y stuffing for it tonight
Night night, sleep tight

Good evening all,
Ladyhawk- I am sorry to hear that your day did not go as planned, as you sounded as if you were really looking forward to it ! I can't believe the lunch debacle . However, well done for seizing the opportunity to invite your friends - if the catering company is the one that begins with the letter "C" and supply Glyndebourne and many of the race courses I should imagine that it was rather nice!!
Frith- I do enjoy reading about your adventures with your sons- bat wee indeed :rotfl:
5 pleasures for today
1. After letting the hens and dog out at 5.45 am - I went back to bed and slept until 9.30 am.
2.OH and I took the dog out for a walk and got back just before the heavens opened .
3. The pyhsio exercises seem to be getting easier on day two.
4. A possible "lightbulb moment" as the physio told me that my lower back was "spasticated" - not a term that had ever been used / explored by my g.p or Neurosurgeon over the last 12 years . I spent some time looking in to this today as I have had an operation to have a large spinal cord tumour removed and I now have a cyst growing back in the cord at C2 .This would seem to explain why my back pain is not going and various other unpleasant issues. I will check this out with a g.p on Tuesday to find out if this is an accurate diagnosis. Tbh it will be a relief .
5.Made macaroni cheese for tea with rtc cheese, with roasted veg, scampi and fish fingers - Weird combo but I never know what to have with it .
Good night all:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Hiya
Mine for today
1. Ds1 had an excellent birthday and he loves his minion I made him.
2. A bacon and egg butty for lunch. No one else wanted one so usually i wouldnt bother, very nice lunch for me.
3. Got 5 packs of mince from Lidl, now divided into portions and frozen.
4. Chicken roast for tea (as per birthday boys instruction). Lots of leftovers (we actually stopped eating rather than finishing the lot and then feeling ill) so I will have it for lunch tomorrow.
5. Snuggled up on 2 seat sofa with hubbie, 3 kids, 1 dog and 2 crochet minions watching Despicable Me.
All the uniforms are ready for school, all bags packed, which is a good thing BUT I am sad the holidays are over and ds2 starting reception full time. Ah well, lots of cleaning, decorating, decluttering, gardening and wine makingto keep me busy!!!

Evening all,
Chicken - it definitely wasn't the dreaded "C"... I went for an interview with them a while ago and got such a bad vibe as soon as I walked in their office.
1) Met up with an old university friend at lunchtime. So nice to see her and meet her baby
2) Made apple jelly
3) Little snooze when I got back from the pub (I was on water as was driving)
4) Made some "ratatouille"... it was just HM tomato sauce with courgettes which was yummy!
5) Quick skype with my mum.
Night night... good luck to all of you who have kids going back to school tomorrow, and especially those who are going to school for the first time.
