    Hello everyone

Kittikins- re the egg fried rice ...anytime :D. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Frith- I am intrigued as to your response re the spaceship question! LOL.

    My 5 for today :-
    1. A mooch in Brighton on a lovely sunny day, as OH needed to replace his damaged mobile phone. However it was very busy and I felt my teeth "unclench" as we left.

    2. My fridge and cupboards are now well stocked due to online delivery. Meal plans for the next fortnight well and truly sorted.

    3. Eggs coming out of my ears.. like a magician :) . Hens well and truly earning their keep, my family and neighbours will be happy.

4.Made some flap jacks which taste like toffee popcorn. Made sure the oven had lots of other things in it , as I don't like to put it on for just one thing . Particularly as my energy supplier informed me of the rather large increase to my monthy direct debit:eek:.I have now changed my supplier.

    5. Hens putting themselves to bed earlier and earlier! 9.20pm as opposed to 9.40pm a few weeks ago. This means I can go to bed earlier and earlier.

    6. Just about to watch one of my favourite films "Sixth Sense" if I manage to make it to the end , for once.

    Good night

Hope you all have a good weekend x

Argh, next door (not MrN!) is having his stag party - 3 metres from our house. :-S (10 minutes after writing this, I can report they have tidied up the garden, put all their bottles and cans in the recycling bin and gone inside! Bless them.)

Anyway, 5 or so for today.

    1) Last day at school! Took the teachers' and TA's cards and flowers. Also 24 cakes for smaller son's class party.

    2) Had a last look round some charity shops and we're as near as we're going to get to fancy dress costumes for my sister's 30th birthday party tomorrow. Bigger son is going as Bob Dylan. Smaller son will be Matt Smith's Dr Who and I shall be Dr Who in his Tom Baker guise... Got a beige and brown shirt today and a pretty awful 1970's tie.

    3) Had 2 nice emails from Guardian soul mates man and should be meeting him in about 10 days.

    4) The builder phoned and sounded very calm that the top of the front door is collapsing and apparently lintels (rather than lentils) are only £6!

    5) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    6) Tasty tea with some prawns from the fishmonger that I made into curry.

I've stayed at home most of the week as my toddler and I are both getting over horrible colds, and am afflicted with cabin fever! So pleasures for today...

    1) Having a read of the OS board. I tend to be quite intermittent with when I come on the forum and especially when I post, but I love just knowing you're all here and think like I do!
    2) Made ciabatta rolls from a bread mix I found in the back of the cupboard (I'm now far too OS to use a bread mix, but they were a good intro to making my own bread)
    3) Was brave enough to let my toddler do some "pouring" with soapy water in the kitchen. He got drenched but absolutely loved it and it kept him happy while I cooked dinner (very boring Spanish omelette with frozen spinach). And it forced me to mop the floor pretty thoroughly to get all the water up!
    4) I appear to have found a good homemade dishwasher powder after a few attempts - http://diybuy.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/dishwasher-detergent/. I used borax substitute - I used normal borax in some earlier attempts but have got a bit nervous about how safe it is, though people have been using it in the home for years.
    5) Am trying to cut down on car use, with a view to only having one car, so spent some time plotting ways to walk/bus/cycle to various destinations. Also looked into bike seats for my toddler.
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

Thank you for the hugs and kind thoughts. I may sound uncaring re my DD1 but like any mother it was enough just to know she's okay.

    1. Up at 6am, got the kitchen/bathroom floors washed before I left
    2. A fair round trip to collect DM, fortunately missing most of the holiday traffic
    3. DM loves the 'new' guest room, made all the time, money and hard work worthwhile
    4. YS pork loin, hg beans from a neighbours garden and hg potatoes from my garden, for dinner
    5. DM, who's not very frugal, made me smile when she kept turning the hot tap on and off to rinse the dishes. I said we're okay for hot water and she replied that she wasn't going to let it run and waste it, she knows how careful I am :D

    Night night, sleep tight

Hasn't been a brilliant time of it, but here goes with a much better day yesterday:

    1. There was an airshow at the nearby RAF base yesterday so we got a free air show while at work. :) The Vulcan flew over really low, the Red Arrows put on a show, the Spitfire, Hurricane and Mustang did some tight formation flying and loops, and a lone Spitfire after did a flypast. Then, I saw them all flying off later while going home from work. What an amazing day.
    2. Saw a sparrowhawk on the roof of a house near work. My sister has seen the female in her garden, but this was the male. Lovely to see.
    3. I've had 2 cayenne peppers from my plant. Tried a bit but they're not overly spicy. Still, they're drying on my windowsill and when they're crispy I'll grind them to powder, keeping the seeds for next year.
    4. Got another present for Mum for Christmas. It's a sponge already soaked in soap then dried so all you have to do is wet it and use it.
    5. DH brought me a cup of tea in bed this morning. :) To my shame it was a bit cold by the time I woke up enough to drink it, but it was really sweet of him. :)
    6. Picked up a nice haul of meat from the market - lots of jumbo sausages, chicken breasts and lamb chops for £20.

    KB xx

hello! missed yesterday as I was just tooooo tired to type ! Early mornings had caught up with me!
    So Friday's pleasures:

1.another early start but woke up before alarm went off. My increased hours mean I start at 7.15am Mon-Fri.
2.the sun was shining & the sky was blue (looking out the window anyway!) but meant I had a nice drive home from work as it's still dark when I am leaving at the moment.
3.increasing responsibilities at work & being recognised for my ability to do this. Not rocket science nor brain surgery but I am enjoying the extra challenges!
4.Home to my family & knowing it's the weekend and no work & no school for 2 whole days!
5.Home to older 2's excellent school reports! They have coped so well with a HUGE academic change. It is an entirely different curriculum ,quite uncomparable to back home & they have all done well. Very proud mummy!
My son has jumped an academic year & has done very well & now has an idea of what he'd like to study at university.....which is an improvement on 'Don't know!'
    6.nice chat with my mum.

    Today's:
1.Drove to other side of Melbourne to go to a British Butcher's : Was so excited! Got 2 blocks of square sausage , 5 sausage rolls, 2 packets of potato scones, 2 packets of dumpling mix and 2 boxes of Tunnock's Snowballs!
So tea tonight is sausage rolls & beans & we will have square sausage & potato scones for breakfast tomorrow. The rest went in the freezer for another day!

2.Found an op shop opposite butchers & had a rummage! Got a pair of cords for work & a pair of denim shorts for summer, a very gorgeous green cardigan from a very expensive shop for not very much! They are having a Christmas in July sale on Monday 25th, so they had a lot of Christmas stuff at ridiculous prices...would have been rude not to buy them!

3.Came home, dropped of shopping & headed out to favourite cafe for lunch which was lovely & much laughing & chatting. Then got shopping. Managed to get a bunch of little bananas for $4. These will do me for work. I can't eat a breakfast as early as I'm leaving but I do need to eat something, so a wee banana would be ideal!

4.Then had to buy DD1 jogging trousers for school PE. Everything for school has to be specific for that school & is a pain in the bum, so had to pay 28.50pounds for a blooming pair of PE trousers as she has winter PE! She wore her shorts twice this week & her legs were frozen. They wear their PE kit all day if it's a PE day. However, we did find very cheap satsumas at a greengrocers next to the uniform shop, so got a huge bag of them.

5.Phoned my niece this morning & had a good chat with her, baby is due in 9 weeks when we go home. She has another scan next week & hopes to see what they are having. I have been buying pink things as they thought it was a girl on her last scan ! Whatever she has ,it will be loved , but I have bought so much stuff!

    6. Stopped at salvos on way home & had a mooch round there with DD1. I got 2 new tops & got a beautiful sheet set for DD1 which was still new & just rather gorgeous! Bedding or Manchester as they call it out here, is so expensive compared to back home. She also got a dictionary for school.

Just about to have sausage roll (don't particularly like Aussie ones:( ) and beans for tea.

    Have a great weekend!

also: the look of pleasure on DD2's face when her dad gave her a bit of Tunnock's snowball but she didn't know what he was giving her! Then when she tasted it.....pure delight!

    Hi all

Ladyhawk, re courgettes, you can cook them and then freeze them - but then if you get your overseas job you can just give them away or swap them for other goodies with friends and neighbours. If you need ideas about how to cook them let me know and I shall knock together a few ideas.

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - I got up earlyish and cooked breakfast for the family (gave DH a break today!). Onion, parsley and feta omelette, it came out really delicious.

2 - My friend invited me along to go jogging with her. We managed to do 20 minutes almost continuously! I feel I am really getting fitter and feel very good about it.

3 - Cup of tea and chat with friend after jog.

4 - Nice lunch of salad, including French beans from the garden, with DH.

5 - DH and I managed to fix the shower, changed a part that the manufacturers sent in the post, using the instructions in the packet. The shower firm engineer would have charged £80 or our local plumber £30. We both feel very proud!

6 - Found and bought a lovely antique darning mushroom so now I can finish darning all my thick woolen socks in preparation for winter.

7 - Found and bought a cards and other games book for only £1 in a second hand book shop. DD will be delighted!

8 - Found a small silver heart trinket in the street, DD will be delighted for that too!

9 - Cooking curry tonight and looking forward to eating it while watching the DVD of two episodes of the second series of Ashes to Ashes.

Have a good evening all x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
