But you can't transfer your programs anyway. If you had bought a new PC you woud need to resintall them. So no difference in reinstalling them after a reinstall of your OS.

Ah right, need to find the XP disc then, haven't seen it since I moved last year :o Is re-installing XP ok when you've already used the disc?

Yes, you just need your licence key.

Overclocking would be pointless on such a slow processor in my personal opinion (Not to mention the dangers involved)

I still think the OP would be best off with a refurb or 2nd hand base unit that will run SIMS 3 and is within his budget. Or pay a PC shop to do the necessary upgrade (but that could end up costing more).

If someone could help me find the right components I need and let me know how to put them in I can try and do that :) I'm guessing a new motherboard and cpu, plus the graphics card at the moment, is there anything else I would need?

Overclocking is simply feeding a unit more power which results in it running hotter
Most cpus are already running very hot so if theres insufficient cooling involved the components get that hot they actually start to melt inside resulting in dead computer (graphics cards and RAM can also be overclocked)
Ive had a dabble here and there and can say that unless the component is designed for overclocking then its really not worth the very small increase in performance (I honestly dont think it would make a jot of difference to your computers speed)

Ah right, understand now :) Thank you :)

Now just have to figure out what I need and how to go about doing it :) But will be making a back up tonight onto the external (1TB so plenty of space!!) Then do the malwarebytes scan, post that up and see what happens next :)

Massive thank you to everyone who is helping me with this :)
