I thought AMD went on the 2500, 3500 etc marketing line as they were equivalent to Intel processors running at 2.5ghz, 3.5ghz etc, though maybe I'm wrong.
    You're not wrong.

The CPU should be fine, the BIOS CPU setting has probably defaulted to the lowest level. From (a rapidly fading) memory, the XP 2500+ ran at 166MHz FSB and 11 x multiplier with PC2700 DDR RAM. The 1100 report suggests that the BIOS setting has defaulted to 11 x 100MHz.

Has the BIOS battery failed or reported errors? This was often a cause of default BIOS settings being applied on Socket A motherboards.

Usual symptom is that the system clock keeps losing time after you reboot, no matter how often you reset it.

I haven't noticed it doing that macman :)

    Whats overclocking?

    And if I re-install XP won't I lose everything?

Is the BIOS setting when it comes up after being switched off at the mains? Asking me to set something at a speed?

It's a way of speeding up your processor over the default speed

Not if you have a back up. Which of course you have, haven't you?
