Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 27th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

welcome2.gif2cats1kid - You are very welcome here hon and this thread covers all shades of the OS spectrum so you are bound to fit in!
Sunnygirl - So good to have you back hon, we missed you
Cranky - hope Pixel is settling in well
Bitsy - Tris is dealing with a huge amount of pain every day and some days the meds don't seem to touch it. I understand him being frustrated. He is a cowboy, has owned and run his own horse breeding and cattle ranch since he was 25, working 18 hr days on horseback sometimes and now he cannot get out there and do all that stuff very often it sometimes gets on top of him. I don't like the snapping, but he never means it and we normally move through it. He knows how lucky he is to be alive, he really does, and most of the time is his normal lovely, funny self, but we all get down times and I guess he feels safe expressing it with me!
Essex - well done on the win!
Teapartymum - nice to see you posting.
nc2703 - What a great windfall! That is super.
celyn - sorry to hear about your bike, what a shame. hugs.gif
jackieglasgow - hugs.giffor you too hon
Woofles - I believe your kippers were last seen making a bid for freedom down the motorway together with Lamewolfs voice which is still MIA.

Please folks - the LAST thing I would ever worry about is wrinkles. I was joking, honestly. My father looks about 10 yrs younger than he is, and me being a fat ar*e means that I have less wrinkles than most of my contemporaries... giggle.gif Probably the only advantage of having extra weight.

Reading the thread yesterday reminded me of learning to cook with my mother. From a very early age we were invited to help stir things and then weighing things until with her help we were helping prep meals with her. On a Sunday she would let my sister and I invite a couple of friends round and we would all have fun baking things with her in the kitchen, and then eating the end results for Sunday tea. She never minded how much mess we made as she made sure we helped clean up too.

Ok, so my OS-iness today will be mostly non-existant (and yet still my post is half a page long smile_tongue.gif). I will be doing more tidying of course and laying the table up with all the bells and whistles. (When he comes back later in the week I won't make such a fuss but just the first time..). I also need to hoover the sofa as the cat has taken to sitting on there as WELL as her blanket on the chair, and I would hate for my father or his wife to get a furry bum!

I have to go see the diabetes nurse at the hospital this afternoon too, so a busy day. Lunch will be HM bread with the end of the coronation turkey and salad. We froze 3bs of turkey meat from the carcuss. For breakfast I am eating dry weetabix with a banana. I am avoiding dairy as much as possible due to the chesty cough I have.
With love, light andgrouphug.gif for everyone who would like one.

    Well it's early is'nt it?
Anyway the funeral was fine. I got a round of applause for my Eulogy, so I guess it must have been OK......A lot of hand shakes after. It was misty and drizzle but it seemed OK. A Christians you don't mourn as those that have no hope so it was a celebration more than anything. Pasty and saffron bun overlooking the sea at Praa Sands, was a nice way to end.
Work today and then 3 days off. I decided not to over do it half term week, so I m only working one day. I have banked enough time off over the year.

    have a nice day...

Good morning MSD and N9eav - hope nobody minds me posting...(normally I am a lurker on the daily thread!) but I am awake and surfing so thought I would say hello! :o

I am due to go to stay with my parents this evening - my mum is going into hospital to have a hip replacement tomorrow, and I am going to stay with my dad while she is in hospital (he is diabetic and had a severe heart attack a couple of years ago, so is on lots of meds, and doesn't feed himself if left alone - side effect of the meds is that he doesn't get hungry, so just doesn't bother!) and be there for mum when she comes home. I am pushing washing through the machine and trying to prep the house to leave Mr P with as little to do as possible while I am away - he is far from incapable, but I feel better leaving things in order!

Also, this morning at 8am, we have an electrician coming to assess our house, and this is the other reason I cannot sleep. We are currently in the process of selling our house (accepted offer 6 weeks ago!) but the buyer is now questioning the electrics - they are old (as are the whole block that we live in) although they pass regulations and are safe - we had them checked several years ago, when we discovered they were not the newest... Best case scenario is that I am hoping that our buyer knocks a few thousand off his offer (which we will accept - I am desperate to move!), worst case scenario is that he drops out and we have to go back on the market...back to square one!

Please keep your fingers crossed that the electrician gives a favourable report, and that our buyer does not drop out. Apart from anything else, I am struggling to sleep before 4am every night, and could do with a good night's sleep - this would be much improved by the promise of an exchange/completion date!! ;)

OS-wise, all meals at the moment are coming out of the freezer (in the hopes that we are on the move soon, therefore it needs emptying!). Apart from that, I am afraid that OS is a bit few and far between chez Piglet.

Hope you all have a good day! :D

P.S. N9eav - I'm glad the funeral sounds like it went well (as well as a funeral can go...). I'm sure that your words brought comfort to those listening, which is what is important...
  • N9eav - glad that the funeral went well and that your eulogy was well received. I know praa sands very well, we used to stay there every year, it's lovely.

Piglet - Of course you can post any time you like! It's great to hear from you. I hope your parents both manage the change of routine etc Ok, and that you don't get too tired looking after them both. I will certainly keep my fingers crossed that the electricians report is favourable for you hon.

Cat is fussing around now so better give her some breakfast.

    Good morning all

Been MIA the last few days, lots of little things getting in the way so not much OS-iness to report. Another poor night's sleep and now have 14 hours of work ahead.
OK, wave of negativity over, BM is on and will be done in twenty minutes, I have pulled a chilli out of the freezer for OH's dinner and I'll take some with me as well, and I have cracked the recipe for syrup sponge. DD2 wants this for her birthday and I have spent 3 days trying to get it right in the slow cooker. I usually do it by adding hot water to steam it in the SC but as we will be out for the day I've had to add a timer and adjust the timings so it will heat up from cold. The first was overcooked and the second undercooked, but yesterday's was just right :j(sounds like Goldilocks :rotfl:)

Haven't had time to read the threads thoroughly so Hi :hello:to all newcomers and welcome back to those who have been MIA,((( hugs))) to all, especially those in need, and well done Bargainbird for giving up smoking!

    Have a good day everyone

Morning all. The heating has actually kicked in here, so that means it must be cold outside - brr! Off to Mum's tonight and then food shop, so we can finally sit down at about ten pm. The tiredness is catching up with me already ;)

Not a lot else to report here. Another day at work. The novelty of the dark nights thing won't last long, I think! Ah, well. Here's to a good day for everyone.

(((hugs))) to those that need them.

    Morning everyone.

Been awake on and off since 4.30am. DD was restless again from this time (I really don't know why) and then DS woke himself coughing at 5.30 and he wouldn't go back off to sleep. Can see me being in for a whingy day with him - he's not good with less sleep and he whines more so it's going to be a loooooooong day ahead
Went to CM toddler group yesterday. No more work about :( So keep plodding on then. They are all so unfriendly there - they can clearly see I am new but don't try and engage in conversation and I find it hard to break into a group of 3 or 4 of them already chatting :o

    Anyway enough of my moaning.
Chicken in red wine in SC for tea.
I have been trying since the weekend to get a loaf on and just not got round to it :o Will try and make sure I put it on this afternoon (I like to do it when I am in so that I can take it out when it bleeps - it over cooks the loaf if I leave it in the machine too long).
Got to take my vac to be mended with a new hose and get DS feet measured as it's been a while.
I kicked a work top yesterday and caught my little toe (yes it did hurt and yes I did swear). It's now coming up with a lovely large bruise and I still can't bend it. Hope I haven't broken it  Sadly not the first time I've done this which is one of the reasons I am rarely without slippers......

Diva - You are such a good friend to Tris. If I can be nosey how did you manage to become friends with a cowboy?
Edited to add: I want to apologise if my post yesterday upset you - I didn't realise how much pain he's in - am pretty sure I'd snap if I was in his position. Sorry been mulling this over whilst preparing the tea for tonight :o

Piglet - welcome :j Crossing my fingers for a good report from your sparky......this house moving business is way too stressful x

N9eav - glad your eulogy went down well - bet you did your MIL proud.

kjsam - well done on the sponge, sounds better than science class!

Hugs to those that need them. Off to check on yesterdays thread.
Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning All

N9eav - glad it went well
Piglet - Good Luck with the inspection.

Not much to report here, dentist went well, no work required & I only had to pay the minimum charge of £16. I do like my dentist just dont like what he does to me sometimes.

Today have loads of office work to get through this morning then take DD to the orthodontist this afternoon - hate going there cant wait for the day she has her brace off.

So no too much os today, OH will probably do some housework & I will cook Lasagne for dinner.

Have a great day, (((hugs))) wherever needed.

    Morning All

I have had a lovely long weekend off work and have spent it with my family here (usually if i have a long weekend off like this one its because me and DD go to visit my Parents in England) but its back to work for me today - and its so grey and wet here in Belfast this morning!

BUT I will not complain! i'm lucky to have a decent job that i really enjoy and all the kids are on half-term so quite frankly the peace will be lovely !

Best wishes to all for a happy day :-D
