They have the data protection act to hide behind that they cannot do anything to change the details without speaking to their client. From what I understand if a DCA comes knocking on the door for a previous tennant you provide them whatever proof they require that you are dis-associated with them and they will a "track and trace" which will locate the person... Not sure how they do it if its thru employment history or thru the electoral roll... They will catch up with them eventually... But prob wont within the 6 years they have before it comes statue barred!I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.0 -
Better idea and less work to return to sender.0

I haven't read all the thread, but a similar thing happened with the Halifax. I was getting debt collection phone calls at all hours for a woman who never lived at my house and despite telling the fools on the other end of the phone about this they continued to call regardless. Eventually I wrote a letter of complaint to the complaints department and to their credit they gave me a reference, sorted it immediately, rang me to let me know and sent a letter of apology. And best of all the calls have ended. So it sounds like some banks are better at dealing with this than others.0

Marvellous isn't it?
(said sarcastically)
hope all the posters who commented that you're taking this too seriously, Paul, are now ready to eat their words.
Police enquiring about bank account opening...firearms...how much more serious can it get?
Hope you get disassociation from Mr Cowxxx ASAP
AND get a HUGE and SINCERE apology from Abbey/SantanderDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

This is only happening in his head (IMO).
I haven't seen any proof that this extremely strange and far fetched story is taking place in real life, have you?0 -
I've only just caught up with this thread so I apologise if I've missed something.
You have told Abbey that you're not Mr. Cowxxx , and that he doesn't live at your address. That should place the matter in dispute, which would make it illegal for them to have sold it to Capquest. It would also prevent Capquest from taking any action to collect it from you.
Have you posted about this on the Debt-free Wannabe board? There are people on there who will be able to offer all sorts of advice on the best way to make this problem go away as quickly as possible.0 -
You've posted his name again!0

Have you considered writing into the' financial problem solvers' of one of the papers (Mail on Sunday does one - not sure about the express) where they take up 'problems with financial institutes' on behalf of readers, to see if anyone can help.0
