    Hi Paul,

I've not been getting my correspondence from Abbey recently.

You haven't seen it have you?

I would go in and ask them, but you know how useless they can be. ;)

    Love
    Mrcow xxx

When I opened the thread I genuinely thought it was going to be about you disappearing from the forum or something. :rotfl:

  • Hi Paul
Great idea, thanks, I already have an account with experian - there's nothing on their files, I'll look into it.

Sorry, but you could have saved yourself all this aggro by returning all mail unopened from day one - it does eventually stop without raising your blood pressure or wasting time on phone calls to call centres.

... but it doesn't stop though! Like Paul and like a couple of others on this thread I too receive regular letters for 2 previous occupiers. I have probably returned nigh on 100 letters to approximately three different organisations, stating 'not at this address' etc (and every variation of). I too have had bailiffs call for this person, and just over two years down the line it's not ceasing. One particular organisation uses a rather brightly coloured envelope and has started sending demands to the girlfriend of the debtee at my address; they too will be sent back along with his letters.

I don't open the mail but this just proves that a 'addressee unknown / return to sender' is ignored every single time. There needs to be more protection for people who are in this situation. The only saving grace is that I understand that it is no longer your address that's blacklisted, but individuals at the address; so hopefully we will have no problems should we ever need to obtain credit, as thankfully neither of us in the indiegirl household have a name like the two who previously rented the place.

That'll teach me to buy a house which was previously rented out!
  • I am 99% certain that it is illigal to open somebody else's mail even if you do not use the information for fraudulent purposes. The most you can do it Return to sender. When they eventually get round to sending a debt collector round be ready with your mortgage agreement/tennency agreement and passport of everybody in your household. As soon as you show them this they will leave you alone and if they don't report them.
  • I completely understand The Abbey not wanting to update Mr Cowxxx address on your say so... There is a small thing called the Data Protection Act so they are just following it up unfortunately in your case its protecting him and rightly so...

How would you like it if some one was trying to change or stop your post from being delivered somewhere without your knowledge...

Why are you giving yourself so much hassle, its just a part of life now that people take debts and leave eventually it stops the more you open HIS mail you are still breaking the law just return it all to sender.
I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.
  • Will you please GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE and shut up...

Data protection act is there to protect the customers and its down to their customer to tell them. They WILL NOT change someones information on someone elses say so. You may be TELLING THEM its not right but they may or may not have a procedure to follow... usually in my job an item of mail is returned as "NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS" we will attempt phone contact with the customer to confirm their address and the Abbey and what ever DCA is dealingwith it are waiting for that to happen.

DCA will always continue writing until they get an order to knock on your door for Mr Cowxxx then when you have proven to them its not you (passport etc) then they will shut up and leave your ADDRESS alone.

Tell me this why are you making a mountain out of a mole hill over it?? Are you secretly Mr Cowxxx trying to avoid your debts?

  • Paul is not making a mountain out of a molehill: he is trying to get a company to obey the law so that they go after the correct person at the correct address, but many British companies are completely useless at this: perhaps if they spent less time reading newspapers and drinking caffeinated beverages and spent more time doing their jobs, these situations would not happen.
  • спасибо очень

He said thank you very much, it is quite rude to speak in a foreign language in a prodominantly english forum for all the others know you could be calling them.
  • ok.
