sign up for the mail preference service and put their name in as a blocked person...... don't know if it applies to all mail but worth a try.
From their site:
3. I am receiving unsolicited direct marketing mail in somebody else's name. Can MPS reduce this?
Yes, you can register a previous occupant's name at your current address on the MPS and this will reduce unsolicited direct marketing mailings to your address under their name. Please allow 4 months for the registration to take affect.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Is that a rude word you've blocked out, or just to protect someone's indentity? If the former,:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
How's that ever get through?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Should you really be opening other people's mail? I thought that was a criminal offence?
Also if you write "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS" on the letter and post it back they will freeze the account until Mr Cow gets in touch. I know because I had a bank statement that was redirected for some reason and sent back and my account was frozen.0 -
Paul, give us a call and ask us to place a returned mail indicator on the account.
Chances are its an old bradford and bingley account that hasn't been updated or has since been forgotten about.I am a Mortgage Adviser
You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.0 -

No, it's not a criminial offence unless you use the information in a fraudulant way. If you just open it to get the number to contact the sender, then that's ok.
Paul Varjak, I don't see what the problem is here. All you need to do is write "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS, RETURN TO SENDER" on the envelope. On the back there is usually an address that it gets returned to. If you feel energetic, re-write this address on the front.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I was in Abbey the other day, and I heard a woman complaining to one of the staff about this. Her response was basically that some dolt in marketing had sent out marketing letters and managed to include the dormant account list. Hence people were getting letters for people who no longer lived there.
She stated that they couldn't alter the address, because the account didn't belong to the woman. She told the woman that there was no chance of fraud happening, but that only the person who owned the account could alter any details on it. From what I gather, they'd been having a lot of enquiries along these lines.0 -

As the DPA concerns information already held.................
DPA - the last refuge for those who are too lazy or stupid to try and resolve a problem !!!0 -

When they got to calling me every day my account was soon empty and I took my current account elsewhere. But the calls kept coming. The problem was only finally solved when I wrote for the umpteenth time, sending them a draft affidavit stating I would issue a court summons if the calls did not cease immediately.
LOL! :rotfl:
Sorry OP but you have far too much time on your hands. Don't worry about the mail, just write "return to sender" on it. Why create all this unnecessary stress in your life?0 -
Simples, as others have said, Write "RTN to Sender, please remove from database" on the letter , sellotape it to a house brick and post it back0

Please don't stop now, just as your story is starting to get really interesting.............0
