There are some people like yourself who act responsibly to make Halloween a fun time for their children, however I have seen small children (under 7's ) out in the dark on their own knocking on doors and that is not to be encouraged I am sure you as a sensible parent would agree?0 -

Absolutely. That's shocking.0 -
Im dreading Halloween this year my youngest whos 4 keeps asking for Halloween and wants to go out with his big brother, but, hes allergic to peanuts, and Im absolutely terrified incase he takes a reaction. All our neighbours know that he is allergic to peanuts, and he will only be going to their houses with me, but, you can never be too careful.
Anyway, ive bought some of those Maoam sweets, some multipacks, crisps, and apples. Might get some glowsticks from the pound shop.

Why don't you pre-empt the problem, get a multi pack of sweets & take them round to your neighbours & ask them to give him the specific ones not from a shared bowl.
Even if your neighbours know some of the children may have already opened sweets from other houses & dipped their hands into the bowl which then gets contaminated.

Just thought parents are so scared now a day they might worry what was in it.
I'm not back at work till 4th Nov.
I wouldn't worry too much about giving them cakes - round here we have four year olds knocking on doors with no adults in tow. This made me so cross last year I asked one how old he was and he said three when I asked who he was with he said noone they were at home watching TV. I gave him quite a few sweets told him to go home and tell them they shouldn't have let him out on his own as anything could happen don't these people think. That or we have teenagers who are not impressed with sweets and ask/demand money instead. Kate :hello:0 -
Go go to a sweet factory shop (wherever they make sweets, they usually have a little shop or room to sell leftovers/misfits etc) and i buy a big bag. i also buy the cheap bags from asda if i need more. however i have seen deals of tins of roses/quality streets for £5 - which means if noone comes you could save them for xmas! but the tins would give you enough and they are wrapped (less suspicious for parents) we get a mix round here, around 4 we get the small kids and later we get the bigger ones, actually even the bigger ones are happy with a few sweets - i dont think anyone else gives them anything!
i like the idea of cupcakes and biscuits, i will be cooking all day as i always have a party and so need food for my guests! a tip: i put colouring in the cakes to make them red/green/blue etc adds a bit of colour amongst the sandwiches! Now living within my means!0 -
I bake Bat Shaped biscuits, the kids love them as it makes a nice change from sweets. Last year I also gave out mulled apple juice to the grown ups too. We've moved since though so not sure we'll get many here.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I've just made my little trick or treat bags up, each one gets a lollipop, a few mini Wham bars, and a couple of random sweeties, I'll add the glowstick bracelets tomorrow
I'm excited!
