OS Daily Thread - Monday 26th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 26th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Going to repost my link to this beautiful song - HERE. The singer is Sarah McLachlan, best known for 'Arms of an Angel'.
Mrsd - good to have you with us.
Cranky - hope yesterday went well and that the kitten is home and loving it
Bitsy - We decided to have a roast turkey dinner yesterday with all the trimmings, so it smelt like Christmas all day. I just adore turkey so always have one now as soon as they are in the shops so I don't have to wait til December. Then we freeze the meat into 8oz parcels and just defrost when needed.
Kitchenbunny - Hope you feel a little more cheerful soon hon
Donnygal - I wasn't actually worried about having aged in 5 yrs when I posted yesterday but now I am!!!
I was just nervous about seeing him in general and of course the house being clean and tidy enough. Now I will spend the next two days worrying about wrinkles!
Redruby - no hon, my mum and dad divorced when I was 7. I traced him again about 12 yrs ago, and though we all had dinner together back then (which was an odd experience for me, though nice to see them getting along), he doesn't have any contact with my mum.
So today will be more tidying up and sorting. I spent about 2 hrs sorting craft stuff and as usual it all looked worse before it looked better, but now I have just two piles of stuff to go through and one big box. My homehelp comes today so will ask her to iron the best tablecloth and napkins for tomorrow.
BM and WM are on - the BM seems to be clunking well. Lunch will be sandwiches as ever and dinner Coronation turkey with baked potatoes and a salad (still finding the odd ripe tomato in the greenhouse and loads of peppers).
Tris is in a bad way and snapping at me. I wonder why I log on sometimes. Actually I wonder why HE logs on when he doesn't appear to want to talk.. :rotfl:. I will keep trying for a while longer though.
With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Good morning MSD.
You sound busy already.
I do hope you manage to talk to Tris, without hearing too much snapping.
I am going to be saying good night now, as I haven't slept well for a few days, and should at least try and get some shut eye before DDs wake up.

Morning from Cornwall. Day off today as it's the Mo in laws funeral, so we have that to go to and tea and pasties afterwards. I have to take part so I hope I have captured the sentiment of her life.
Nice roast dinner yesterday, had my uncle over to join us. Managed to cut back on the grocery shopping this month, but spent it on fuel I think....
Well, not much else to report from here, wish the clocks did not go back as it's real early getting up these days.

Morning Pipkin! - Try and manage some decent sleep hon!
Hi N9eav - I hope the funeral goes well today and I am sure your eulogy will be very apt. (and much appreciated)

Morning MSD and everyone that follows.
Feeling a little more cheerful here, but it's Monday and still earlyIn about half hour I go to get the bus for the first time in 2 weeks. I've got a good book to get my nose into, which should help, and I've started doing competitions in magazines so I can do those too
In the mag I got to take on holiday with me was a coupon for a free pack of choccies - will be redeeming that one today
I ran out of inspiration (and bread) for my packed lunch today, and so have packed a packet of instant mash in my work bag. Any port in a storm as long as it fills the stomach. I can add a bit to a cuppasoup to make it nice and thick or just have mash with seasoning - either way I'm trying to use up cupboard stuff any way I can.
Then tonight for tea I'll be stripping the carcass from last night's chicken and mixing it with a couple of chorizo sausages, a tin of tomatoes, some veggies, stock, chilli flakes and rice and having jambalaya. Hopefully, there'll be leftovers for my lunch on Tuesday!! Mmmm
Right, must get on. I'll do a bit more mealplanning if I can while on the bus too. Here's hoping for a nice day for everyone. (((hugs)))

Morning Everyone its been a while since I posted but things have been a bit hectic here.I've had two of my four down with bouts of piggy pox and its been all housebound activities.
Today is hubbys birthday the old goat is 45 and looking pretty good for it as well:DHe's at work today which is a bit of a downer but I'll get the kids up in a moment to give him his cards and prezzies and then it'll be cake etc tonight.
On an OS front I'll be doing some baking later and theres the usual mountain of ironing and washing to tackle
Diva hope the meeting with your Dad goes well and dont worry he'll just be pleased to see you so dont worry about the wrinkles
N9eav- I'm sure you'll do your mother in law proud

Morning everyone.
Had restless night with DD, was as up and down like a yo-yo to her. Shes sleeping in at the mo and I have DS on my lap who sounds like the cold I gave him has gone straight to his chest
On the plus side we are all meeting H for lunch today. As it's half term I can swing it as DS doesn't have to be at nursery for 1pm. Only downside is having to drive into Birmingham. Now that is a daily commute I don't miss......
Not much in the way of OS going on then today as I might head off to the local Childminders toddler group and see if there's any work about. They are all a bit of a clique there and I only really know one other CM and not very well at that so it can be a bit daunting but it has to be done.
So busy morning planned, will take packed lunch for the kids and me. Be nice if it was dry enough to eat outside in Brum but well have to see.
Hopefully get some OS squeezed in this afternoon.
Not sure what's for tea as haven't checked the planner.
Diva - your dinner is making my mouth water <drools> Sorry Tris is in a bad way. Have you spoken to him about his attitude? I appreciate with his situation life's dealt him a naff hand but would he really rather be dead? From the sounds of it he's lucky to be here - it's just a shame he doesn't see that.
N9eav - hope funeral goes as well as can be expected x
Pipkin - hope you get some sleep x
ravylesley - hope your kids are on the mend now after piggy flu. Happy Birthday to Mr Lesley
Hugs to those that need them.

Hope everyone's plans go well. I usually work Mon-Thurs but the Boss is away later in the week so i'm working Tue-Fri so i'm having a lovely long weekend!
I have almost finished my meal plan for the next couple of weeks and I also did a rough budget as I want to be me aware of exactly where we are leaking money from! I hope to join in the grocery challenge for the first time in november so i'm trying to get a little financial organisation into action!
I've a list made of things to do today and might get crackng while the OH and No 1 & 2 DS are in bed and the 3 younger ones are engrossed in cbeebies!
More coffee first I think!

Morning all
Lazy start to the day here, hubby's working 2 til 10. I need to go to the sorting office to collect some wool I ordered & to the bank to pay a cheque in. Mr T should be delivering between 11 & 1. Hopefully hubby will hear about his job today, they took less time to choose a new Head, we are trying to keep positive, but feel it's not looking good. I'm also popping into the local butchers, I'm going to order & pay for a turkey, that way we'll have one for Christmas even if we are skint.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning All
N9eav - hope today goes as well as it can.
Its monday & a horrible day today we the kids and I are off to the dentist for our check ups  fingers crossed we are all ok. OH is at work so have postponed his appointment. Afterwards have promised to treat kids for a McD's.
Then its off home for office work to be done & persuade kids to get their homework done as we are busy later in the week.
Whilst on here am also playing free bingo - its very tedious :rotfl:
Had quite a lazy weekend so hopefully will have some energy this week - feel quite sapped of it at the moment.
Nothing else to say so I will get off.
Hope today is a good one.x
Wow I just won £5!! - wont moan anymore.0 -
Morning all
N9eav - hope the funeral goes as well as expected, hugs to you all,
Had a quiet and productive weekend, OH left for work early this morning, I'm on leave so looking after the kids. Really need to blitz the lounge, dining room, kids bedrooms, we seem to have so much stuff! Will be sorting for bin, tip and ebay so being as OS as poss! Lunch today for kids will be HM bread made into sandwiches etc and for me it will be HM butternut squash and sweet potato soup, made this for the first time on Saturday and it's so delish even if I say so myself! Diet it still going well, my strength of mind is amazing me, my head is so completely in the zone. I knew my weight was causing me mental issues for 18 months but couldn't get myself into gear to do anything about it, then I saw photo from my friends wedding in May, to say I was horrified is an understatement! That brought me my LBM and I've now lost exactly 2 stone, and know where I want to be by Xmas and then my big bday in Jan 2010! I've done all the big weight loss programmes in the past, and finished up putting the weight back on and more, so am doing my own thing, have changed my lifestyle which isn't something I've done before. Anyway enought about diets etc, dinner tonight will be leftover chicken from yesterday's roast with rice and veg, have also made a pan of stock from carcass so will use that to make soup later in the week. Have got a meal plan so hopefully will be able to stick to that so won't break the budget whilst kids on half term!
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.
