As a matter of interest why do you get two receipts?

Presumably one for me and one to pass on to the customer.

Howdens haven't done anything wrong (at least in my eyes and legally!) it's the fitter who has lied and forged documents, hence the case against them.

I may have missed it but I've reread the thread and I can't find anyone else mentioning forged documents. Who forged what documents?

So if a customer challenged you on not giving them trade price how would you respond?

Garages will generally pay half what they charge for parts so is this now criminal ? With my trade card in Halfords I pay 40p for bulbs (and they still make a margin) whereas joe public pays £2.99. I get 2 receipts, one is just a list of items and retail prices, is this now also criminal ? Please give us some facts of the court case, the other posters are genuinely interested

Hi Molerat, same question to you as Gloomendoom - if a customer challenged you on not giving them trade price how would you respond?

I don't have customers in the sense that I think you mean but, if I did, on what grounds could they challenge me. It is up to me to set the price that I want to re-sell parts. If the the customer isn't happy with the price, they can go elsewhere.

After all, I don't go into Halfords or Tescos and demand that they sell me goods at the price that they pay for them. That would be silly.

I may be missing the point here but I thought the reason companies like halfords etc offered trade cards was so people in the 'trade' could by parts at a discount, make a little profit on the mark up with the end result being Halfords gains a trade customer, trader makes a small amount of mark up profit, and customer gets car parts at a slightly lower cost than they would of if they contacted halfords direct.

A customer has no 'right' to a 'trade' price because they are not trade.

Put it this way jillytb, if you had been able to buy from Howdens, you would have paid 6k for your kitchen, the fitter paid less because he spends a lot with Howdens. The fact he paid 2k less is irrelevant he probably factored it in when he quoted to you. I cannot see what the fitter did wrong.

I would say that if you took civil proceedings against the fitter, you will lose. I have no doubt that if you have obtained paperwork, saying what the fitter paid Howdens, then you and the person who supplied the information have commited a CRIMINAL offence under the Data Protection Act. I note you still haven't answered as to how you got this information.

Have a good think before you issue proceedings against the fitter, you could find yourself in a whole heap of trouble.

Next thing you'll know customers will want all materials at cost price
