It's something you add in addition to washing powder. I put a fairy liquidtabs in the drum along with two dessert spoons of napisan and they came out really white
I got it from the baby aisle in the supermarket.

I did try to search but it didn't come up with anything despite me knowing there MUST be a thread on this somewhere!
I stupidly decided to get my girls 'pretty' and more expensive girly polo tops for school. They started back on we'd here and so far I have 3 tops 'ruined'. 2 were washed straight after wear and came out greyish and the other one today has blue paint all over it grr! I soaked today's one in ariel whitening powder before chucking in the wash.
The greyed ones have been washed twice with ariel whitening powder and soda crystals along with the usual detergent and also soaked in a mix of soda/ariel before being washed again they still came out greyed
I am a bit scared of bleaching but if it's guaranteed to get them back to white I would use it I've only ever bleached bedding beforeNo more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
My best idea is to hang them out and leave them in the sunshine for a few days. Guaranteed whiteness back. You could also wet them in some water with lemon juice in which is a natural bleach.
For future clothes, never wash whites on hot, unless they are pure cotton it makes them grey. HTH0 -
I do everything (bar bed linen) on a 40. Is that too hot?No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80

I say the schools would set grey shirts instead of white shirts if they wanted them to look immaculate all year round ;-) . I find what works best for us is soaking in soda crystals overnight, then washing as hot as i can for that material. I also soak in bleach at the end of each half term. (& resist buying more ;-) !)After reading this thread I added napisan to my shopping delivery and.....

I saw some in ' big' Mr S the other day, but haven't in my medium size shop. Have you tried boots, or ask your local chemist to get some in for you.0
