Buggy damaged on flight

Thank you for all your replies. I was not alone, I was with my parents (who incidentally paid for my holiday). I am unable to buy a new buggy as I do not have the money. I do not have a car and rely heavily on taking my son in his buggy to the shops and to play groups. I was simpy asking if they would compensate for the inconvenience caused as if the buggy had not been damaged beyond use I would have been able to put him in it and help take the luggage to the bus. I would also not be in a position now where I do not know how I am going to get out of the house to buy shopping etc. I will have to use taxis etc but simpy cannot afford the cost of this. It surpises me how a simple question can make some people reply with such rude answers. What difference does it make if I was able to afford a holiday but cannot afford a buggy now? Why does that have any bearing on the question I asked?

I agree about the rude comments - uncalled for.

    I especially liked this one
Have you or your child suffered any particular anguish over this?

LOL!!! This person obviously does not have kids! It is enough anguish WITH a buggy!

However, I'm afraid these posters may well be preparing you for the kind of comments and reaction you will likely get from your airline!

    Good Luck!

Moral judgement aside - stick with claiming for the buggy - I've never had an easy time claiming anything from airlines so make your life easier by only claiming what you can easily substanciate and prove by means of receipts.

  • Thanks, I just find it funny that people feel the need to reply when they have nothing useful to say!

Indeed they must never have had a 19 month old on their lap for four hours on a flight then had to carry them for a further half an hour. My arms are killing me today!!!

We will see what the airline say, as long as I can get a new buggy I will be happy.

Just the thought of having to have to do that with my one, who at the best of times insists on walking alone that usually turns into me chasing him all over the place is making me tired :D

As a previous poster suggested, maybe once you get some cash together, invest in a really cheap/secondhand pram, as its always good to have a spare in the house or for taking on your hols, that way you avoid these kind of issues, there were some going in woolies (just before they closed down) for £10! Also, not sure how much your previous buggy was but on the Silver cross website they had the Fizz on sale down from £85 to £50.

Make sure you get your claim in promptly, i didnt read my claim form straight away too busy unpacking, washing ironing etc and back to work and when i did read it you had to claim within 7 days, so i was too late. What county do you live in, i have a spare pushchair or what about a local car boot sale or ads in local paper or the freecycle website as a temporary measure.

This happened to me to with Iberia.. I endep up with 2 huges bags and carrying my 1 year old.. i tried to claim with my insurance and they said the baggy was not covered ... i did all the paper work in Iberia when we landed so i phoned them... but i was soo much hazzle i couldnt not cope with it.. i am a usually the first one to go out and fill in the forms and everything. I hope it goes well for you... I have learnt my lesson.. my pram always goes with me in the plane or if it will be put with the bags... i always take the really light one and cheapest.

So you not don't want compensation for your terrible experience?

If you can't afford a cheap buggy for the interim, how can you afford to pay for taxis - the magic taxi fund? Clearly you do have the money, but you would rather create a drama out of a slight inconvenience.
    Gone ... or have I?

ok, so your Parents can afford to take you and three children on holiday but can't sub you the £80 to buy another pushchair?

First things first I really hope you reported this before you left the airport otheriwse I would hold up much hope. Simply write a letter to the airline, enclosing a copy of the receipt. Don't bother with compensation as you have suffered no loss or hardship except the damaged buggy.

This happened us in the past with Easyjet. We reported it immediately and they paid for a replacement:D

For future trips have a cheap buggy (£20), may not look nice but if it breaks then you don't really care.
