General smug glow from some - not very helpful and perhaps not illegal as been going for some time but that doesn't make it ethical! Consider Pyramid selling!
  • I think it may be legal or maybe not. It really depends on whether I can be bothered to read the thread.

I probably wont because it sounds really boring.

INfact I'll just say its legal because people are still talking about hence its still trading. Hence Trading standards havent done anything about it.

    Yea, uhuh
  • Hi, whilst the Fraud department of our bank was investigating something for us they noticed a couple of payments out of our account to our friend vista print rewards. Now as far as i was concerned i had cancelled vprewards by clicking on there link wich is obviously linked to nothing as there still taking payments!! our bank has been extremly helpful and informed us that it is a scam but they apparently are doing it in a way they can get round it(dont know how like!!) i suggest people pay more attention to yes what ther clicking but also cheack your statments very very closely!! Also i'd like to add yes we prob wouldn't have noticed a problem, cheap cards bonous! but calculate! you think your gettin a great deal? no your not cos you are gonna end up pating for your stationary ten fold. so who's better off in the end NOT YOU!!. We are looking in to going to watchdog about this an i would stongly suggest other people do the same and lets stop these people making money out of innocent people when the moneys better in our pockets than theirs!! These people must be making millions and we! apart from our apparently not so discounted stuff are getting nothing cos i havent recieved any bloody rewards only bank statements saying i'm 9.95 down a month!!

I've just done a search to locate the above posts. I read an item in Sat/Sun paper which referred to the above issue and it rang an immediate bell with me - I'd seen the entry on my credit card bill and put it on one side to challenge. I have just rung and in theory cancelled. I seem to have been signed up also because I bought business cards - via an offer on Amazon - I read things scrupolously and really and truly did not believe or think I had in any way shape or form performed any action on ordering the cards which signed me up to this. Further more I had NO idea till I read above it was about high street discounts - I thought it was all about stationary. If they are taking money in this way surely it falls foul of the unfair terms in consumer contracts regulations just as much as potentially do credit cardsand bank charges - and at least I did know about those!
  • I like all the other people on this link have been charged £9.95 each month by Vista rewards - I've constantly tried to cancel this membership (over a year!)and even asked my credit card company to help - the which their response was 'try and contact them again if not come back to us' . I'm so fed up with getting nowhere i looked up the Company the managing director Mr Paul Patrick Callagham who doesn't seem bothered that he is spending innocent peoples money has apparently put the company into disolvancy and all calls are directed to Wisteria Chartered accounts - who like vista never call you back - however this is probably due to the amount of people they have leaving messages on their answer phone - I haven't given up getting back my £100+ and will keep you updated on my progress

So well done Mr Callagham who will probably be able to start yet another company taking more innocent peoples money - I hope you sleep well at night:T :T :T

I dont trust VistaPrint at all and will not deal with them again despite Hiliards eloquent and highlighted exaltation of their apparent virtues as s/he sees it. You should ask them for a job Hiliard, :T I'm sure they'd be happy to have someone with as much business savvy as you.

Well, maybe it's because I run a business and do read the small print. As I said, I've had lots of goodies from them, no problem. As for the job - I just don't fancy trailing all that way to Bermuda in a morning... That's their registered base, although Lexington MA comes up quite a lot - still too far on the bus.
  • I seem to have been a victim of this, but under the name of highstreetmax.com. I did buy something via lastminute.com but as far as I am aware I would have clicked 'No I don't want to join your club' and they have taken £29.90 from my Amex card.

I've raised a disputed transaction with Amex and they have promised not to let any more be billed to my account, hopefully I'll get my money returned without fuss.

I won't be using lastminute.com again after this, like others I consider myself pretty PC savy and would not have signed up for this. I also save my e-mails and cannot see any e-mail giving me a membership number or anything.

    is this illegal
i have emailed them and told them to put my money straight back or ill take legal action.but am awaiting a reply.

I order from Vista all the time. You simply say "no thanks" to a pop that asks you to join VP rewards.

They are a good company that supply excellent products. But you need to make sure you read everything that pops up on your screen then it'll be fine.
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)
  • I wish to goodness I had never heard of this company. I started using them when they were recommended by a friend. I sent off for postcards and fridge magnets of my latest novels to use as promotional tools.

I was really pleased with the quality and the result but how I have paid for them literally over and over.

I noticed back in September of this year [2007] that two companies I hadn't heard of were taking £9.95 each on a monthly basis from my bank account. They are called Club Prem and VP Rewards. I immediately went to my bank who informed me if I changed my debit card there would be no problem. So I left reassured.

The following month, I was dismayed to find the same thing had happened again with VP Rewards taking money, but luckily I was able to cancel Club Prem and get a refund.

So for the second time I went off to my bank and spoke to a nice lady who told me she couldn't understand how it happened a second time. She rang head office and a stop was put on VP Rewards taking any more money from my account.

Again, I left reassured. Now the buggars couldn't possibly take any more of my money, could they?

Another month has passed and guess what? They've somehow managed to take more money from my account. I'm really annoyed with my bank.

I'd already e-mailed VP Rewards numerous times and got no response, so now I rang them and spoke to a bloke who sounded as if he was in a call centre miles away. He reassured me that my account would be refunded in 7-10 days. I asked the man why they were taking money from my account and he said I'd taken an online survey. I know I didn't -- I hate those things. He also sounded as if he was reading some sort of a script from a card. I think he's fobbing people off.I've waited the allotted time and just checked online and theres no refund. No surprise really.

I'm going back to my bank this week to close down my account and take it elsewhere.

I'm really disillusioned how money can be taken for a service I did not request and my bank were powerless to stop it.
  • We have just noticed a payment on our M&S card for £14.95 relating to Highstreetmax.com. When we checked our statements it appears this amount has been taken since the beginning of July with two payments taken in August (so far 4 x £14.95) We have spoken with M&S and they say it is a subscription and they cannot cancel it. We have now cancelled our card so no further payments can be taken. Does anyone have nay further details on this company and how they would have gained access to our card when we have not subscribed to them?
