There is a financial divide in the UK of that there's no doubt.

So far the manufacturing orientated parts of the UK have taken the brunt.

The service sectors may yet have to feel the pain.
Construction has taken a hammering big time. There are prime pieces of land (one on Oxford Street in London) and there's no money to build on them. Projects are being axed/ shelved or reduced in size all over. If in any sector the people aren't earning the money they are not spending it in the High St  it's a knock on effect. And as I write this drivel the fkn xmas ads are on the tv,........ AAAAaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

No point in building unless there's a tenant who wants to rent the premises.

I agree but the Oxford St site was on the news today, you would think they would be chomping at the bit to get in there

As I have done some miles this year I have noticed the empty commercial premises, some new and never occupied. There are thousands of sq mtrs sat idle and will be for years I would say with the tightening of credit
We will be no further forward in real terms this time next year. GDP growth up/down and all that cr4p means nothing to the man in the street who can't find work.

Empty retail high street units now stand at around 7%. With forecasts predicting around 15% next year. As smaller independents get squeezed. The increase in business rates next April won't help either.
