Recession may be over tomorrow

Why is anyone surprised that the recession isn't over. Walk down any high street - does it look like it's over?
Well at least bankers are getting record bonuses again, as Finance and house prices are the only parts of the UK's economy that apparently matters anymore, Brown should be well pleased.0 -

I'll be avoiding that sausage roll :eek:0 -
It could have been worse.
I think a cautionary reminder for people that we are not all clear yet (not watchers here, but people tempted to over exten for christmas etc) is not bad thing, and it could have been an awful lot more bleak.
I think it would be odd if this period of 'readjustment'' showed no inceases or decreases at all, wouldn't it? Things don't seem to work that way.0 -
Maybe not laugh parts of my clothing off, but I refuse to accept that a recession is over just because of a single figure.
Call me whatever you like, but the criteria for calling a recession beginning and ending should be the same.
I've thought this ever since I was a Generali-ette, first studying macro-economics. Surely a recession is over when real GDP is back to the point before it started falling?0 -

Are you not even willing to accept some sort of 'trend' adjustment in there - ie a big artificial boom might take the economy above trend and so a return to trend might be sufficient?I've thought this ever since I was a Generali-ette, first studying macro-economics. Surely a recession is over when real GDP is back to the point before it started falling?I think....0
