MSE News: Nationwide: house price rises easing

Maybe, but not at the time needed for having kids.
People cant afford them, unless they are chavs.
Grandchildren?
I must be a Chav, we have a house both work and have a child. I even went to Haven this year.
Can anyone tell me a good place to get fake burberry and a body kit for my car?0 -
Only half the story as usual. NW say that the better than expected job figures are in part due to companies not making people redundant but making more people part-time or less contracted hours. Not sure how this will continue to help HPI especially when interest rates rise. Surely less pay does not help HPI?
As for people waiting every person has to view their own area. In mine Property bee full of drops now and I supect these to continue.
It seems the half a story are the facts the other half are opinions'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

True, But I think only 5% (could be 10) only ever end up in care homes.
It may go up, but the vast majority will die before getting to the "care home" stage.0 -
the Nationwide is back to March 2006 now...
at it's low in February it was down all the way back to April 2004...
it looks like some people may have missed an opportunity of saving themselves a lot of money if they thought that house prices would go down further... that's not very MSE is it...0 -

Ouch....
2.7% YoY gains, not good for the bears at all.
Year on year gains are the kiss of death for those hoping to profit from waiting or STR-ing.
And those gains will only get bigger now.... 10% YoY forecast by spring.
Hi Hamish,
Can you just explain why 10% YoY increases are a good thing? I can't see which part of society benefit.
The young who are looking to buy certainly don't benefit.
People that own a house, but are looking to move to sth bigger don't appear to benefit.
Even those that are looking to downsize surely can't, as a whole, view this to be good news cos they will have children / grandchildren who lose out as a result.
BTL investors will of course benefit, but again, their children, or their children's children will lose out.
Perhaps home owners or BTLers with no children (and no intention to have children) are the only ones who can really claim to win.
I must be missing sth, cos I can't see that ppl would be that selfish...Hello.0 -

But this is what makes me doubt the indexes to be honest. I wouldnt have saved myself anything if I'd bought in Feb 2007 because there was nothing about for less than £260k, and those were BISF. BISF!
Now the BISF is down to £180 and there are normal places for around £260. Not a massive drop if you want a normal place - but for people in NW London who want to live in a pre-fabricated shed at 5 times income its doubleplusgood news!

as you know the first 6 months of this year there were some good rates about - that's for those in the position to get the finance...0
