MSE News: Orange dashes hopes of iPhone price war

Just received the following email from the Carphone warehouse.
The iPhone that can do just about anything. The iPhone 3GS is the fastest, most
powerful iPhone yet, with video recording, voice control, and access to thousands
of incredible apps at the App Store - it's also available on Orange from the
10th November 09 as well as our existing O2 deals.
If that's not exciting enough, The Carphone Warehouse will be celebrating the launch
with a number of great deals to help you make the most of your iPhone.
Will many O2 customers be swapping over??
Does any one have any idea on tariffs yet??0 -
Would love to know the tariffs, but at least we have a date!0

It'll be interesting to see what the Apple store will do?
Will they have models locked to each network or (I hope) have unlocked iPhones and just send out the right sim for the network you pick !0 -
Now with multiple networks offering iPhone's I hope current owners can have their handsets unlocked for free so they can move to whom they want to.0
-
There was an announcement from O2 last week saying that they would unlock iPhone but only at the end of your contract or after you'd had it on payg for A YEAR ! To my mind that's taking the p. So you've just paid a minimum for £440 and they still want 12 months top up's from you !! I don't think so . . .0

I was speaking to an Orange store guy yesterday and he told me the tariffs are exactly the same as O2's, except there's a new unlimited one at 130 per month! Disappointing if true. Does anyone know whether its best to upgrade my 3G through O2 or are there advantages to switching to Orange?0

No one in Orange retail knows the tariffs. Anyone 'in the know' is at a high level and is covered by none discloser agreements. The guy in the store was guessing.
The price of the handset will be the same as Apple tell the networks what they can charge, but you'd hope that they'd be some, if not lower plans, then at least different. . .0 -
Maybe I can get a Monkey on my Orange Apple, or perhaps a Dolphin0

Orange have announced their tariffs this morning:

Works for me - same price I was prepared to pay O2 for the phone, but their 30pm 18 month tariff gives me the text/minutes I need (double O2), and unlimited data.0
