Well most would agree that sending a cheque is not the safest way to pay the Card Provider, but if they offer this as an option they should be cashing the cheques promptly and not penalising customers for choosing this payment method.

As others have suggested perhaps pay the Minimum by other means and send the extra by cheque and monitor closely how many get processed. If there is still a problem you would be within your rights to raise a complaint with Barclaycard.

For what its worth, I have been a Barclaycard customer since the mid 80s and for many years paid by cheque without a problem.
    Thanks,
I find it odd thy dont seem to be able to "find" or locate my cheques when everyone else does.
I do use DD for many payments , these are regular same amount ones but when different amounts come in via bills & utilites i find it easier to sit down and write cheques.I pay my bills straight away .
With my work commitments i have no time to make phonecalls and pay by card - im far too busy.

I have a Halifax credit card, with online banking. It takes me exactly 10 seconds to make a payment to my credit card, from the moment I log into online banking.

Depending on your internet connection, online banking is the most fastest and convenient way to make a payment towards any sort of bill. It even saves you on pen ink, and is far quicker than writing out a cheque.

The time spent writing out a cheque, putting it into the envelope, sealing it, posting it.... can be cut by 95%, allowing you to focus on your busy schedule.

    Hi ,
As i explained the post is NOT about different payment methods .
Please read the thread .I am well aware of other ways to pay etc.How i choose to pay is my buisiness .
My post is about Cheques to Barclaycard Going missing .They dont to other companies .
If i send them recorded they get there if not they go missing !

They are the only cheques that do go missing and i write lots .

OK fine. So we've establish that Barclaycard:

    1) Don't cash cheques unless they are sent recorded
    2) Won't entertain upholding a complaint

    We've also established that you:

    1) Aren't prepared to pay by other means
    2) Aren't prepared to send via recorded delivery each month

As these four points are unavoidable facts in your eyes, there are only two possible solutions:

    1) Close your Barclaycard account and find another credit card provider better at clearing cheque payments
    2) Carry on sending cheques unrecorded and continue to get frustrated, continue to get late payment charges, and continue to have your credit file damaged

As you are unwilling to entertain the idea of alternate payment methods, logic clearly dictates that these two conclusions are the only possible outcomes given the facts.

If you don't like it, I'm afraid that's your perogative for being stedfast in using antiquated methods of payments and / or continuing to keep a credit card with a company clearly with an incompetent clearing department.

It is impossible to solve a problem when you have already decided that the solutions aren't things you are prepared to implement.

  • If you can use this forum why not use barclays online service iits very good.

    It is 2009 after all.
  • I'm afraid I do see the posters point, how they choose to pay their bills is their business and if Barclaycard aren't processing them then it is clearly grounds for complaint as they chose to accept cheques for payment. If they don't want to process them they should remove the option like many internet based cards do.

Why not pay the Barclaycard bill STILL using a cheque but over the bank counter? If you are having to make a special trip to the post office to make sure it's sent recorded, then that could be an option. :)

Barclaycard can't be held responsible for mail going missing. There is no evidence to suggest Barclaycard is receiving these cheques and then just simply binning them. Sending items recorded delivery is a different story.. Royal Mail have to ensure they are delivered successfully otherwise they'll have to fork out for compensation.

It's Royal Mail the OP should be complaining to. Barclaycard has a range of payment methods, which should be used if there is problems using your preferred method. The OP has no grounds to complain simply because she doesn't want to use the other payment methods.

It's not about what method you want to use, and what one you don't. It's about making sure, which ever method, your bill is paid on time. That responsibility lies with you.

Don't like it? Tough. Be prepared for a rocky road ahead with charges, debt collection agencies and a ruined credit file.

    This thread is great :)

Yes the original poster asked us to not comment on different payment methods, but they must've known we couldn't hold out...

And what a !!!!!!!! comeback - not got the time to ring them (or use their incredibly easy and quick website) but has time to go the post office and send recorded delivery!

izools was spot on - what other options are there?

The suggestion that Barclaycard deliberately fail to bank cheques is, frankly, laughable. If they were doing this in any systematic way, there would be complaints about it all over the internet.

Are you hand writing the envelopes? Are you mis-addressing them? Are you failing to write your account number on the back of the cheque? Are you failing to include a paying in slip?

There are many reasons why your cheques may not be arriving, but any conspiracy theory ideas are just nonsense.
