Anyone pay BARCLAYCARD by cheque - but cheque "always " goes missing in post !

Hi ,
Im curious as to this problem and if it has happened to anyone else.
I pay a lot of my bills via cheque .Its my preffered method with cetain bills so i dont want to discuss the best ways to pay bills etc .

Anyway when ever i send a cheque to BARCLAYCARD it mysteriously goes "missing" .
Now ive paid other bills via cheque for 6 years ( only 1 cheque went missing).
Other bills ive paid over 10 years none went missing.
However BARCLAYCARD unless they are sent recorded ALWAYS go missing.
I am well aware mail can go missing but why always BARCLAYCARD ?
After a few cheques went missing with BARCLAYCARD and i incurred fees .I started to go to the post office to post via recorded delivery signed for .They recieved them posted this way.Last month i was ill and was going on holiday too. I didnt have time to make a special trip to the post office just for them so i put the cheque in the post box.Guess what they never recieved it so my bill has just come in - with a default of £12.
I have wrote a letter to send to complain "recorded".
Now i find it strange the only times any cheques EVER seem to go missing is with BARCLAYCARD and personally i think its fishy. There is no way this amount of cheques can go "missing" and only to thier company.
Has this happened to anyone else who pay thier bill via cheque?????

Alas, I don't use cheque so can't comment, but it is certainly suspect. My friend used to use cheques for Barclaycard and I can't recall any problems with him using them. Maybe it's their way of pushing everyone to DD and online payment, less processing for their worker bees.

Let us know the reponse to the complaint.

I used to pay them by cheque and never had a problem.
Having said that I then went over to DD for minimum and a cheque for overpayments. That makes it their problem not mine and they cannot charge any penalties.

    Hi ,
so i don't want to discuss the best ways to pay bills etc .

No you just want to discuss the worst way to pay bills.

If paying Barclaycard by cheque is causing such a problem, why continue? Particularly if the cheques getting lost is starting to damage your credit file!

You can even pay online with Barclaycard, you have no need to send a cheque which cost you money on postage. I fully understand some people don't like DD or SO, but sign up online and pay your monthly bill.

You may want to get "Proof of postage" for all the cheques that you send standard first class over the next six months, and once you've collated evidence of cheques being posted and not received you have a complaint that can be backed up in writing to Barclaycard and the Financial Ombudsman if needs be.

Although I appreciate you might not want to discuss the best way to pay bills, you are damaging your credit file by continuing to pay by cheque when you know they don't get cashed.

As others suggest there is no harm setting up a Direct Debit for the minimum amount and make overpayments via cheque. You are protected against issues with the amount taken by the Direct Debit Guarantee, and there's no way you could incur a late payment fee then.

Good luck, and keep us posted ;)

Make sure you're making the cheque out correctly and including all the correct details. Double check the back of your statement to see their preferred format.

Also ensure you're sending to the right address..

Sounds obvious but it's worth checking these things.

Well most would agree that sending a cheque is not the safest way to pay the Card Provider, but if they offer this as an option they should be cashing the cheques promptly and not penalising customers for choosing this payment method.

As others have suggested perhaps pay the Minimum by other means and send the extra by cheque and monitor closely how many get processed. If there is still a problem you would be within your rights to raise a complaint with Barclaycard.

For what its worth, I have been a Barclaycard customer since the mid 80s and for many years paid by cheque without a problem.

Thsi does seem a bit of a daft post. Says the current method of payment is costing money and probably damaging credit file, but insists on carrying on. Very strange.

yeah the insistance of using cheques is odd.

the best advice would seem to be what the other poster did and is combine DD with cheques, use DD for min payment so you dont get late payment charges.

Please read the thread .I am well aware of other ways to pay etc.How i choose to pay is my buisiness .
My post is about Cheques to Barclaycard Going missing .They dont to other companies .
If i send them recorded they get there if not they go missing !
