Next time you go through a motorway roadworks, overtake one when you come out the other end and see what happens!!

I did this a few days ago, sitting at 50mph, cruise on through Average Speed zone on M5.
Quite happy, no hassle, about 200m in front of me is a Zafira.

Went under the last yellow lights and through the NSL Sign and I toed it, pulled out, overtook the Zafira but did notice him accelerating as I was going past.

I kept on accelerating until it was safe to move back to Lane 1.

As soon (and I mean SOON) as I got past him, he shot out into Lane 3 behind me, going from L1 to L3 in one swoop (nothing in Lane 1 in front of us)

I carried on accelerating thinking "What is that van doing??"

He was so determined to overtake me he was going to drive that van as fast as it would possibly go.

It was late on a Sunday so hardly any traffic, Flame me if you want but I carried on accelerating..... 118mph and he is still catching me (albeit at a much slower pace)!!!

I get a fair bit in front so slow down, he is still in Lane 3 some distance behind me but still coming....

He flew past me.... got about 300m in front of me, then slowed down and moved back into Lane 1.

The Determination was incredible.... there is simply NO WAY he was going to look a wimp in his van... he had a point to prove, that point is to show he is a normal bloke, not an "under the thumb wimpy husband who has been TOLD he is buying a people carrier".

I'm telling you.... it's the drivers not the cars!!!
Sounds like 2 idiots here, you are right its the drivers!!..both of you in this instance

Seems to be a lot of gripes about people carriers. If you're not mature enough to deal with them then more fool you. People have different reasons for owning different cars.

One day when you have kids you might understand that function overrides form.

Not sure if that's directed at me?

I have 1 Child and another expected and will be fine with either my Octavia or a Mondeo ;)

Yes people have different reasons, doesn't mean they're the right ones...
Lots of people buy image over function, but that's another argument altogether.

I dont have a gripe with all people carriers - if you have a large family then they are a practical way to transport them around. What i have a gripe with is the mini mpv's.

What can a megane scenic do that a normal megane cant?
What can a toyota corolla verso do that a normal corolla cant?
What can a xsara picasso do that a normal xsara cant?

You can't say things like that on MSE.

There are at least a thousand people on MSE who claim NEVER to have driven over 70mph. Anyone who does is a complete LUNATIC on our roads.

    69.999mph = Fine

70.001mph = A thousand posters calling you a menace to society!!

I'm sure these posters have never driven on a motorway (at least not one I have ever driven on)!!!!
Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling

85-90 mph or even a hundred is not really the same as 118mph is it?

If you think saying 118 is bad relates to saying 70.01 is bad, then I think you've lost some sense of perspective.

What's really funny is one driver saying that another driver is an idiot because he was determined to get past him, so he sped up so he couldn't. Perhaps this poster should judge himself by his own standards?

Just to add - 2 kids, always managed fine with Fiestas - you don't really need to haul loads of stuff around for kids.

I made no comment about my own driving, my chosen speed on an empty motorway in good conditions is about 85mph.

Nutter obviously. I don't need telling.

I would argue someone driving at 70mph in the rain on a busy motorway was a nutter.

Similarly a People carrier full of kids watching DVD's and fighting in the back being driven at 85mph is bad driving.

I've got to admit to being against people carriers for a long time but to now having one (and only two kids :D).

It comes in very useful and is easy for taking things on holidays. to the tip, grandparents out etc but usually the boot is empty and the seats down.

I agree that they are basically vans, however you try and sex them up. Since getting it though I haven't felt the need to show off the length of my !!!! or drive it any differently then when I'm in any other car. To me a car is just something to get you from a-b as easily as possible.

I think people who have to prove their car is sporty by painting it a sicky orange colour are a bit weird. Likewise 4x4 drivers, people with soft tops who take it down as soon as they see one ray of light, people with 1.1l who speed down the hills on motorways only to chug at about 50mph up the next one! The list goes on, however I don't feel the urge to start a thread about each one.

If everyone liked/wanted the same car it'd be a bit boring.

(This sounds a bit more serious than I meant it to - I'm not offended or anything:rotfl:)

I don't know about the scenic or picasso but the corolla verso seats 7, I don't think the normal corolla can.

Original version of the verso was 5 seats and the newer version has 7 but the rear seats are strictly for dwarfs!
