Only because you are now not allowed to transport your 7 sprogs in an old Peuegot.

Anyone ever travelled in taxi brousse? The record I saw (first hand, I was somewhere in the middle) was 21 folk in an old Peuegot 404 pick up!!

I had a Toyota verso to transport my disabled mother and her wheelchair, the passenger seat was adjustable for height, better for my mum, and I didn't have to lean over the boot to get the wheelchair out. I hated it, nothing wrong with the car, I just hated driving it. I felt old before my time, plus I'd had to p/x my m sport bmw which I loved but mum couldn't get in and out of it (too low).
Now my mum has passed away, I can have what I want. A mini cooper and a lovely old classic mini. Would I have another people carrier, not on your nellie.

It's the drivers who get on my goat!!

A people carrier is simply NOT a man's car, no matter what colour you paint it or how tinted you make the windows.

Blokes behind the wheel drive like idiots as if trying to prove their masculinity - You are driving a windowed van, a kiddies taxi, nothing more, get back in lane 1 and leave us blokes to go about our business in proper cars!!!

If it isn't the "under the thumb" husband driving it...... it's the wife..... nuff said!!!

Well Renault did try to inject a bit of testosterone with their "The Race" version of the Espace which DH drove, but they're just not sexy cars!

Worst of all are those nasty Japanese versions which come with curtains fitted  and always seem to be driven by fairisle-jumper clad Ned Flanders types with fish stickers on the bumper!
  • Wait for someone to start the argument with the VXR version! How many people in those drive like they're in an actual fast car? Someone should tell them!

A people carrier or off-roader is needed if you have as many as one child.

Yes, you can fit three people in a Mondeo, but parents these days feel the need to also haul half of Mothercare around as well.

You're more likely to fit this in the boot of a mondeo than a people carrier boot ;)

I understand if you have more than 2 kids just don't see the point if you don't.

Personally I wouldn't store any luggage inside the passenger compartment - In an accident you don't want heavy luggage flying about...

The other gripe with some People Carriers is the seats in the very back right by the rear window - Another Accident friendly place.....

Seems to be a lot of gripes about people carriers. If you're not mature enough to deal with them then more fool you. People have different reasons for owning different cars.

One day when you have kids you might understand that function overrides form.

Next time you go through a motorway roadworks, overtake one when you come out the other end and see what happens!!

I did this a few days ago, sitting at 50mph, cruise on through Average Speed zone on M5.
Quite happy, no hassle, about 200m in front of me is a Zafira.

Went under the last yellow lights and through the NSL Sign and I toed it, pulled out, overtook the Zafira but did notice him accelerating as I was going past.

I kept on accelerating until it was safe to move back to Lane 1.

As soon (and I mean SOON) as I got past him, he shot out into Lane 3 behind me, going from L1 to L3 in one swoop (nothing in Lane 1 in front of us)

I carried on accelerating thinking "What is that van doing??"

He was so determined to overtake me he was going to drive that van as fast as it would possibly go.

It was late on a Sunday so hardly any traffic, Flame me if you want but I carried on accelerating..... 118mph and he is still catching me (albeit at a much slower pace)!!!

I get a fair bit in front so slow down, he is still in Lane 3 some distance behind me but still coming....

He flew past me.... got about 300m in front of me, then slowed down and moved back into Lane 1.

The Determination was incredible.... there is simply NO WAY he was going to look a wimp in his van... he had a point to prove, that point is to show he is a normal bloke, not an "under the thumb wimpy husband who has been TOLD he is buying a people carrier".

I'm telling you.... it's the drivers not the cars!!!
