OS Daily Thread - Thursday 22 October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 22nd October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Thykingdomcome - I was like that when I was new, every thread seemed so interesting! Hope you stick with us too!
Cranky - still sending love and hugs your way
N9eav - Prawn crackers heading on down the road hon. We bought a really early model Dyson online from a place that refurbs them for under £40 4 yrs ago and apart from a service last year which was about £20 it has been perfect and it REALLY makes the carpets look great.
kjsam - Tris has seemed in better spirits the last couple of days which has been lovely for me.
Aussie - There are still prawn crackers left don't worry! :rotfl:
Bitsy - my OH won't move down to skimmed so I have been adding a little water to his semi skimmed. Not even a third really, and he hasn't noticed. So you are doing well with your husband on UHT skimmed! My OH hates UHT milk, even the full fat type.
Noahs - Glad Noah is a getting better
Bargain - Spike is so cute!
Lamewolf - Think I saw our voices staying at a spa somewhere enjoying a glass of something cold and a box of truffles!
Taplady - I hope that your DS finds a new job soon
Nikkei - As usual I am waiting til the last possible minute to do my cards as I just LOVE panicking and pulling my hair out with an hour to go before deadline. (not) So that is this afternoon sorted as soon as I get back from the hospital..
Hester - that made me laugh out loud
Had a wonderful afternoon yesterday. I just baked. I had my home help here for two hours to pull things in and out of the oven and when she left, my OH was home. I made *takes deep breath*; cheese straws, marmite and cheese straws, ginger twinks, rock buns, weetabix loaf, cheese and red pepper filo parcels, lamb and mushroom filo parcels, (to use up 30p pkt of filo that had been lurking in the freezer for weeks as I was too scared to cook with it! I decided today that either I used it or I threw it out! Plus left over lamb scraps). Oh and also a sausagemeat and onion plait and a huge sausage and pepper casserole for dinner. All onions and peppers and garlic from our own garden.
Oh and exciting news - I can confirm we have baby mushrooms appearing in our mushroom kit!! Woohoooo! Photo taken but not downloaded.
My OS-iness today will be to eat the rest of the sausage casserole (does that count as tidying up too? If so, I am being a good flylady ..
) and to finish the birthday cards. Then I plan to sleep for about a week if this cough will let me.
Ok, well I hope everyone has an enjoyable day today, with love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Morning everyone. I've been MIA again for a few days, what with DH being at home with his now-recovering infected finger and working on the house. He's been able to get a few things done but I seem to be getting roped in to helping with most of it!
The weather has been pretty grim lately; it's been cool and wet and looks set that way for the rest of the week.
I haven't caught up with the thread properly in days so I'll try and read over the last few days when I get the chance.
Welcome to newbies - hope you like it here!
Jayne and George - you are in my thoughts. Jayne - I hope you're taking care of yourself and managing to get some peace.
Taplady - good luck to your DS with finding a job.
MSD - glad Tris is feeling a bit better.
Well, I'd better go and have a shower. Will call back later - haven't decided on dinner except to say that I took pork chops out of the freezer.

Morning MSD and Mioliere and all who follow:j
I just had to share this with you.....
Last night at about 6.p.m. we had a power cut. Luckily, I had already lit some candles (well, it was sooooo dark and miserable!) and dinner was minutes away from being ready.:j
DD and I ate in the candlelight feeling very cosy, warm and well-fed.
About 8.p.m. DD said 'how long is this going to last - it's getting boring now' I said 'rubbish, at least I'm not giving my money to the electricity company'!!!!!!:rotfl: Have I finally graduated from the university of MSE/OS?
Hope you all have a peaceful day.

We have no heating on as its so mild but its actually stopped raining for a mo but more is on the way.
Best get on, I havnt caught up with the thread so hope everyone is ok. (((hugs))) wherever needed.x0 -
Morning all,
Looks like rain here again today , dd has just come down for breakfast
with a thumping head, sore throat and tickly cough, so she has had a drink and piece of toast, 2 tablets and gone back to bed, she was as white as a sheet, so I will keep her off today, best to stay in the warm.
Went to see the mortgage lady last night and signed on the dotted line, things are going to be much tighter in the new house, so will be cutting down on the food shopping. I also need to finish my xmas present shopping before we go, just got dd to buy for now.
Need to do a wash tonight, and a quick tidy round this morning, sainbugs delivery coming tonight.
Lunch for me today will be hm soup and a roll, dd can have her packed lunch, OH makes his own, and I think he has a ham and stilton sandwich, honestly you should see the amount he eats, and he has a tiny waist , he obviously works it all off, lucky thing
Dinner is someting with chips and peas, will go and delve in the freezer in a while.
Jayne and George, you are doing so well, big hugs to you both xx
Thykingdomcome, hello and welcome xx
Hugs where needed, have good days all xxx
Meant to say, Bargain bird what a cutie spike is, he has that look which will charm the birds from the trees, the girls will love him in years to come x0 -
Morning all
Diva and Essexgirl seems to be the morning for hospital appointments. I have one at 8.45 this morning too and should really be getting ready as it is the other side of the city and will hit all the rush hour traffic but never mind. I hope both your appointments go ok!
Glad to hear your OH is recovering Moiliere.
Lillibet - I love eating by candlelight (although we hardly ever do) it seems so romantic - even when enforced by the Power Companies:D
Bargain - Spike is so gorgeous - what a cheeky chappie he looks to be!
Well today is hospital followed by shopping, cooking and cleaning. Then I really must wrap DD1 birthday presents for saturday - she was appalled the other day that as she is 25 on saturday, when she fills forms in now she will be in the next age band!:rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:
Right must get a move on or I will be late, off to get a shower. Have a good day all, will catch up with thread later.
Edited to say - morning Reduby you posted whilst I was typing!

Morning Essexgirl
I remember the 70's power cuts well - along with the 3-day week and the rubbish piling up on the kerbside. Told DD about it last night!! She was surprised I remembered - she thinks I was young during Queen Victoria's reign:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j[DFW Nerd club #1142 Proud to be dealing with my debt:TDMP start date April 2012. Morning everyone,
I was going over to the other island this morning to shop/library and have my blood test but had such a rotten headache decided to leave it for tomorrow. I vacumed & washed the floors instead. I wouldn't have bothered but DH spilt Elderflower cordial all over the floor yesterday and even though he wiped it up it was stickyish.
Going over to the mainland on Saturday to watch a movie (Mao's Last Dancer) & have lunch with DD. I've read the book and loved it. I hope they don't destroy it as a movie. I made a pot of pasta sauce with hundreds of cherry tomatoes which are taking over  today as well. Will cook up some pasta and have it for tea.
Ruby You must be proud of me. I'm buying my first C*******s present on Saturday.
lillibet We had 80's power cuts over here. Lasted for months.
Taplady I hope DS finds something soon.
Bargain Loved the pic of Spike. He's such a cutie pie.
Well hope you all have a happy day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Good girl :T I knew you would listen to my [STRIKE]brain washing[/STRIKE] wise words eventually, you had better get it in the post soon, or it will never reach me in time0 -
Morning all
I remember the power cuts in the 70's too! Makes me feel old, already having major mental battle with impending 40th bday in Jan 2010, age has never bothered me before and this is really playing on my mind. Had lovely dinner last night, sausages and green garden vegetable pie, mmmm very nice. Had planned to have frittata tonight but now not sure I have anything to put in it, not quite sure where my planning went wrong but may have to have a re-think! Need to do a mysupermarket comparision shopping list ready for shopping tomorrow, am going for a haircut this morning and want to get back and tackle the washing mountain, but will need to use the TD as wet and nasty here. Will start on the housework after - would like to get house ship shape before the children finish tomorrow so I can actually spend some time with them! If I get time would like to do some baking (and I have any energy left).
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Hello,
Hope you all doing ok?
Im feeling quite tired this morning. My cleaner is coming today? Big question mark - Have to get that one sorted!!!
Have just had toffee apple eves pudd and custard for breakfast. YUMMY. Dont care it was lovely and I didnt eat much yesterday. After years of watching my weight I am slowly losing more and more without trying so its liberating!!!
At least its not raining. Kids dad hoping to do car boot at weekend so hopefully it will stay dry. I sound really boring this morning - I feel really boring. Lets hope the day gets brighter as it goes on.
Have a good day,
